Whats an example of a "Divine move" in Ultimate?

"A divine move is an exceptional, inspired and original move; one that is non-obvious and which balances strategy and tactics to create an unexpected turning point in a game."

Essentially, have you ever been watching a set live and a player pulls out the most unexpected yet optimal play that the tens of thousands of people watching would have never thought to do, and you likely wont ever see it again? That is a divine move.

So, what is an example of a divine move in Ultimate? (Saw this discussion for melee on twitter, thought it would be interesting to hear Ultimate examples too)

Which franchise with a playable character(s) has the worst/smallest representation in Smash Bros. Ultimate, and how can it be improved? Give your explainations. (stage wise, series wise, music wise, and moveset wise)

Here's my example: PAC-MAN (series wise)

While there's nothing wrong with his moveset at all, his series representation is at the rock bottom: his "alt costumes" suck ass and barely have any difference, and they're even worse than Sonic's alt costumes (at least Sonic's alt costumes have him change color in his full body). No acknowledgement of ANY other games in his franchise other than the original, Pac-Land and the one theme from Pac-Mania. Barely any music, spirits, anything else from the rest of the franchise other than the original Pac-Man and Pac-Land that I mentioned before. Nothing from Pac-Man arrangement, Pac-Attack, Pac in time and especially nothing from the Pac-Man World trilogy.

If I were to improve his representation in Smash, I would bring back the PAC-MAZE stage from Smash 4 (but more advanced, based on said maze in Pac-Man Championship Edition) in addition to the Pac-Land stage, and for spirits, I would include these characters from the Pac-Man series: Professor Pac-Man, Toc-Man, Orson, Spooky, and of course, Ms. Pac-Man! And I would include even more obscure picks, like Miru and Crystal. As for his alt costumes, not only can we either use the Pac-Man Battle Royale colors, but I have a bunch of ideas:

  • Have Ms. Pac-Man as an alt costume.
  • Retain his 2nd costume, but with him wearing a hat to make him resemble his appearance in Pac-Land.
  • Have one of his costumes involve him wear Professor Pac-Man's hat.
  • Have most of his alt costumes turn the colors of Pac-Man's body into the ones of the Ghosts in his series.
  • Have one of Pac-Man's costumes involving a TURN-TO-BLUE version of Pac-Man.
  • Have one of his costumes involve Pac-Man being based on Taizo Hori, also known as Dig Dug, from Dig Dug.
  • Have one of his costumes involve Pac-Man's body colors resembling the color scheme of the maze in the original PAC-MAN game.
  • Have one of his costumes involve Pac-Man being based on Sue from Ms. Pac-Man.

Just look at this.

And finally, the music. There's so much we can do to improve Pac-Man's series representation through music, and that is by adding these following music tracks/remixes below:

  • PAC-LAND, from: Pac-Land (1984)
  • Ancient Ruins, from: Pac-Man Arrangement (1996)
  • Buccaneer Beach, from: Pac-Man World (1999)
  • Cleopactra, from: Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness (2000)
  • World 1 - Pac-Motos, from: Pac-Motos (2007) [Note: this was part of Namco Museum Megamix, which did come out in 2007, and is technically a remix of Motos]
  • Pac Jump Up!, from: Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 (2016)
  • Pac Oi Oi Oi, from: Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 (2016)

And that is all how we can improve Pac-Man's series representation in Smash Ultimate.

In your opinion, which franchise with a playable character(s) had the worst or lowest amount of representation, or has been treated the worst in Smash Ultimate:

  • Stage wise
  • Series wise
  • Music wise
  • Moveset wise

And how can it be improved?

Give your explainations in the comments below.

I really miss the hype around a new smash game...

With no sixth game in sight at the moment. I'm just taking a moment to reflect on the series and its massive impact it had on my personal life, and internet culture on its own.

From the hype around fake leaks, to me getting mad at my friend for wanting Geno in the game when he never even played Super Mario RPG. It's just something I miss. The games themselves are a ton of fun, and the hype kind of extends into the DLC period. But we've been pretty distant from that for a few years now and I'm really missing it.

Whoa... looks like some of the Smash Bros came to the real world!

I call this thing "mixed reality art", where basically you take game or cartoon characters and throw them onto a real picture. Thing is, you gotta fix each character's lighting so it looks like they're actually there.

Anyone else think Corrin Down B being a Chomp would be much better?

I mean the counters I think should only be on Roy and Marth, just to switch the Fire Emblem Characters up. Corrin is very unique and could be a really really fun and good character but the speed and frame data make them a little less fun, no spike options really. The down tilt is suicide most the time, with little margin for error when it's not. Back air is great but the awkward hit box alonf with Corrins terrible air and ground speed just makes back airs that much harder.

Any thoughts on a faster Chomp no Projectile.

What Should their down B be changed to?

If they changed down tilt to down B and then gave her a sweeping down tilt that could spike woukd be cool. They could even change it to Links/Young Link or even Toon Link down tilt, similar to her down tilt but serves a different purpose. Hit box is different and it can kill.

Sparg0's Roy

Ever since his surprise counterpick that won him Supernova 2024, Sparg0's Roy has been a monster of a Sonic slayer, still undefeated against Sonix, Wrath, KEN, and Kurofune.

Which is especially surprising since even dedicated Roy mains like Kola and Ataru have struggled against the Sonics.

What is it about Sparg0's Roy that is so powerful? And is it really of no use in any other matchup?

[SSBU Eclipse] Mechon Ridley - The Invincible Space Pirate

After Galeem's attack, the less virtuous of the fighters took off in different directions, each deciding to try their luck in this new world of Parum filled with untapped potential and resources.

Ridley made his way to a mysteriously rebuilt continent of Mechonis, whose Mechons and Machina residents were living as they were back in Shulk's world. He immediately took over, with few able to resist his ferocity, cunning and savagery.

Seeing the curious metal the residents were made up of, he decided to use it to improve himself. Will anyone be able to beat this new version of the space pirate?

This is all a part of SSBU Eclipse, a passion project I started. Right now it's just a few friends and I and we've made plenty of progress, but it's far, far from complete.

That's where you come in.

We're looking for writers, artists, voice actors, and anyone else like that to help build this up and create such a unique and fun project. The more, the merrier! Any help is welcome!

I made a free coaching tool for drawing over gameplay VODs without the need to upload anything

I built this web app because I got regular coaching and seeing how simple epic pen is and how annoying it is to review footage that isnt uploaded to youtube, i figured i could do better, and so I built this and added a ton of useful features!

You can load a local video without uploading them to the server, or paste a video URL. Then you can draw over the footage, theres a variety of tools, including emotes and the ability to save drawings into save slots for easy loading. The video player has been designed to be customizable to whatever controls you prefer. You can not only change the keybinds but also how big the different skips are, (default is frame-by-frame, 1s 3s and 10s). Another feature is being able to put down markers (and label them), and it will update every second how long ago that moment was.

No account needed, and videos and drawings dont get uploaded to the server, pretty much everything is saved in your browser. You can even install it as an app so it works offline!

It's called Replay Whiteboard, and you can try it here: https://whiteboard.nymphokittiac.com/

I’d especially like feedback from people who do coaching or regular VOD reviews. What features would make this more useful for you? I made this app for Omega Strikers specifically, but made it in a way where it works for any game. Im very open for feedback and would love to hear what you guys think!

Does Ness and Those Who Main Him Hate Themselves?

Full disclosure: I am an unapologetic Ness main. So yeah, I am biased towards him but also....

I'm not dense. This is a child who recreationally shoots himself in the ass with lightning, sets things on fire, squeals the same weirdo sounds over and over, and is joyfully used by gamers (sometimes adults) by spamming the same moves over and over and over and over and over while they pretend it is skillful.

What is wrong with all of them?

This milquetoast socially inept child derives power and pleasure only through torturing others with his tactics. What kind of dick head hits someone with a yo-yo? Seriously. Who keeps yelling about fire and thunder and attacking stranger's shins with baseball bats?

And what kind of misanthrope would willing CHOOSE this character to represent them, their competitive spirit, and their overall value as a human being?

Maybe Ness (rightfully) hates himself. That little fucking dweeb. And maybe, me and the others who have convinced ourselves that our play and tactics are "skillful" and "fun" are just leaning into the weakest aspects of our psyche.

Maybe we're all the lame ineffectual little boy who is a one trick pony. Maybe no matter how many PK fires we spam, our fathers still will not love us.

Maybe we have to let go of our endless pursuit of control and recognize that maybe, just maybe, we've been wrong the whole time and healing comes on the other side of growth.

Or maybe Ness is the fucking shit and I'm going to keep spamming you all day jerk wads! PK THUNDAAAAA!

Would hero vs villain theme really work for next Smash?

I know it has been talked before, but I'm not sure if anyone really has a specific explanation about how this idea implements. So I try to figure it out:

*Within a typical 50~60 slots roster, every franchise would have at least two reps (including 3rd party), half is hero and half is villain. There are approximately 25 villains in the vs roster.

*Which means if a franchise gets a second rep, it would have to be a villain over a hero over a secondary hero or a sidekick.

*While some franchises like Wii Fit don't have villains so they can go with just heroes, they'd also have high risk of being eliminated from the roster as villains from other franchsies need take their slots.

*Pokemon is kinda arguable since it doesn't always have obvious definition of villains, but the rivals could be legendaries or partners of the bosses from the game.

While we'd get a certain amount of new villain fighters, we'd also lose a certain amount of secondary heroes we've got so far. Fire Emblem is an obvious case as it only has hero fighters and would have to cut quite a lot of existed heroes. We'd also have to cut several minor Nintendo franchises and 3rd party as exchange for second villains of other franchise. (E.g. cut Kazuya for Blinky, cut ROB for Glass Joe).

It sure wouldn't please fans who'd love to target or request secondary heroes (e.g. Falco, Midna etc), I also find that some fans don't always take the loss of secondary heroes or the potential cut of minor franchises into consideration. It feels like this idea can only be valid if most fans agree exchanging secondary heroes for villains would be a good bargain. I just think secondary heroes, such as Diddy Kong, Ike and Isabelle tend to have very big follow, that fans would unlikely agree to cut them as exchange for more villains.

I also think this would bring difficulty to future new franchises for Smash, as each new fighter must be paird with their rival and enter together and take two slots at one time.

Would this idea make a more interesting roster? Or you find the tranditional way of roster casting more diverse and interesting?

I want to find this player

I've never done this before, so sorry if this isn't allowed, but I had too much fun fighting this person for, like, half an hour in random matchmaking. I think we did 8 or so games, I was Kirby and they were Pokémon Trainer. It went last stock basically every time.

If this is you or someone you know, if I could get anything like a discord or something, that'd be great, I really want to fight this person again sometime. I know the chances of this post helping are slim, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try

[SSBU Eclipse] What if Samus's genetic mess was actually visible?

Once Dharkon got ahold of her, he did something worse than what the worst of the Space Pirates could.

This monster has every ability peak Samus has. So good luck hiding from wave beams and the heat-sensing vision, outrunning the Speed Booster and Shinespark or even keep it down when it can heal itself by draining your energy.

This is all a part of SSBU Eclipse, a passion project I started. Right now it's just a few friends and I and we've made plenty of progress, but it's far, far from complete.
