Snowboard bag sizing question

Hey All.

I’m currently eying a Dakine Low Roller for a Japan trip later this year.

Two questions:

  1. Do I also need a suitcase to bring my other belongings? Or will everything fit into the snowboard bag, so I don’t need to lug two pieces around

  2. If I have a 155cm board, should I get the 157cm or the 165cm, which may give me more space. I am aware extra length may lead to the bag being floppy and hard to pull around, but is this that substantial?

Thanks in advance!

Looking for End-of-Season Snowboard Recommendations

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to buy a new snowboard and take advantage of end-of-season deals.

My riding style is mostly resort cruising with a strong focus on carving, plus some occasional off-piste.

I came across:

ThunderStorm Snowboard for 391€

Cruiser Men’s Snowboard 370€

I’m particularly interested in boards with 3D base technology (like 3BT-style shapes). It looks like it could help with smoother edge transitions, better float in soft snow, and reduced edge catch.

Would love to hear real feedback if anyone has ridden these boards:

How do they perform in carving and higher speeds? Are they actually worth it or mostly marketing?

Also open to other recommendations in the same category — stable resort board, good edge hold, and still fun in mixed conditions.

Thanks in advance 🤙

Signal Compass vs Park Pro

not a noob, but the other sub never gets traction on board questions.

https://signalexp.com/collections/all-boards/products/park-pro-gutter-phoenix

https://signalexp.com/collections/all-boards/products/compass-duel

anyone familiar with these? i'm a midwest rider who laps 200-400ft hills after work; my ejack knife is way too much board for my local hills, my huck knife is fun but not as playful as I want when I'm screwing around. they both kick ass at Stowe, Breck, and the big resorts.

normally i would say camber for park stuff, but honestly thinking the 3d flat might prove to be more fun for what I want. side hits, jibs, ground tricks, and general shenanigans at hills you can see the top of from the lift line...

Looking for friends lol

This is a joke, I love my friends and they are all aware of this post and give me permission on posting this.

Anyway I would love to make new friends that are good at snowboarding, or even if you are just keen in doing park laps to improve :)

If you are from AUS or NZ we should connect!
I will be going to some of the ski resorts probs more in NZ than AUS at the start of the next winter season.

If you have any tips on how to get cheap ski passes, good food, accommodation or any stuff like that I would appreciate your tips.

Thank you <3

Snowboard boots dont seem to fit me anymore.

Hey everyone, as the title says, my boots dont really seem to fit anymore.

Now, maybe thats the wrong way to put it, but last season I had to wear them so loose that my heels came up and were slipping every toe turn.

Ive tried wearing them tighter, but the problem is that I just cant seem to get it right. If I tighten the double boas any more, my feet fall asleep really hard in the middle of a run. It gets bad enough to where it hurts and I have to stop sometimes in the middle of the run.

There just does not seem to be a middle ground I can find anymore where it holds my feet in place but doesnt cut off all blood flow. This started at the end of the previous season and was really causing me problems this last season. Im not really sure if its just me or the boots is the thing.

For some context, these are the DC judge step ons and i bought them in December of 2022. I also dont really have the luxury to ride very often (I live in GA, so i have to make a trip up) and so ive probably only rode them about 25 times give or take, so I thought I would maybe get some more life out of them but as I said these have become almost unbearable for me and I cant wear them in a way that allows for a comfortable ride. I basically am slipping out of my boots every time I ride.

Do you guys think I should just get new boots for the next season? Or is it something im doing wrong? This wasnt a problem until this last season really and they dont have any visible wear or tear, but it just feels like the interior lining and shape of the boot doesnt fit me anymore.

Opinion on the Snowboard Purchase

I am trying to but a snowboard for next year. He said that this is from 2024. I have already bought boots. Price and size is reasonable for my weight (164 pound) and 5’8”. Size 6.5 shoe. Do you think that this a good deal for beginner?

1 month in. Feed back and advise?

I’ve started about a month ago going once a week. I would love to get some feedback and advice on how I can improve and look smoother on my S turns.

I heard the most common advice is to get low and bend the knees. I’ve left the fall in in the beginning because I tried to get low at the start and lost balance. I ended up psychologically not bending enough the rest of the run.

Also how do I get faster with my run? Why is my S turn drill slowing me down?

Progress - Jan vs May

28 days of riding so far for the 25/26 season!

Any feedback to get better is appreciated! (I know my arms are weird here. I was jokingly imitating my bf.)

Capita Mercury

Thoughts on the Capita Mercury? I’m looking to get a board of my own after riding my friend’s Rally Cat. I’m an intermediate rider looking for an all mountain board. I enjoyed the Cat but it feels a little too flexible and unstable at high speeds. I found a Mercury for a good price and I think I’ll enjoy the hybrid rocker/camber.

Wanted to ask about this

Was goofing around and doing some window shopping, ended up looking into boards for the future. This is the board I ride now, a 160 pure pop Instigator, which iirc I got because it was a better segue between the upper-level Custom and the barebones Ripcord and would be a great learning board.

The 2½ seasons I've had it, I spent a year learning how to ride red (intermediate ones, forgot what the NA equivalent of Japanese trail routes are) and even some easy blacks -- and this past season was spent taking the greens (the easiest pistes) either half in switch or fully switch, with some time in the pow and a few days helping people who are *super* new to the sport get a feel for riding and beginner carving. I'd like to think after the end of this season, I may not be a "noob" in the purest sense but I'm certainly no expert.

I've dabbled in a little park (basically just spent a March day riding off boxes and working on stomping my landings), but I guess I'm asking for my more seasoned riders, when did you realize you needed to graduate from your starter board to something more intermediate?

Ready for some feedback! 25/26

Hello shredders! During my last post for 24/25, I gained tremendous amount of feedback. Thank you all! https://www.reddit.com/r/snowboardingnoobs/s/6KhQVo3kiN

Now this is the 2026 update!
My heel side is losing edges, where I “pre-turn” heel sides so I skidded there.
I’m ready for 26/27 season, before that please advise!

I’m fairly new, and I’m learning carving. The clip is on a slushy day and very mild run (approaching the end of the run)
I’m struggling on my up and down motion (pressuring the board edges edge to edge)my riding looks more like I’m “pushing and pulling”, not like releasing first and putting pressure again. My goal is to ride smoothly edge to edge, and especially my heel side

Anything is appreciated. Cheers!

What 3 Layer should i choose for skiing/snowboarding? Advise needed.

Hi everyone.

I need something versatile to use not only for skiing, but also for hiking and trekking, or even as streetwear. The thing is, I'm looking for a third-layer jacket, and the more jackets I look at, the harder it is to decide. I'm looking for a waterproof and breathable third layer, but I have a major dilemma regarding the type of membrane and versatility.

On one hand, I'm looking for something that guarantees total waterproofness for those tough days of blizzards or wet snow, but at the same time breathes well when the activity intensifies or during demanding approach sections. I've seen some very robust, ski-specific options (with Gore-Tex Pro or similar), but the prices are a bit scary, and I'm afraid they might be too rigid or heavy.

On the other hand, I have several 3-layer (3L) jackets on my radar that were initially designed for trekking/mountaineering (specifically the Haglöfs Front Proof II). Aesthetically I like it, it's lightweight, and the price is usually a bit more contained. My question is, does anyone use or has anyone used a 3L trekking jacket for skiing?

Let's see if you can recommend some jackets.

Thanks"

Getting new board after 3 years in - any tips?

Hi all, I’m planning to get a new snowboard this summer in Japan after my first lesson 3 years ago. I’m from the tropics, so I don’t get to hit the slopes that much but considering everything (jobs, schedule, time and money), I am lucky enough to sometimes snowboard twice a year.

I’ve decided that I’d like to go all in with it. I know some of you would probably suggest that I get a secondhand snowboard but coming from a tropical country, there are very limited options when it comes to new snowboards, so let alone people selling their boards. New snowboards are quite pricey where I come from too. Hence, the mission to get it in Tokyo while I’m there this summer.

In terms of my level, I feel that I am probably at level 4, or intermediate phase. I am able to link my turns, going smoothly on “S” from heel side to toe side on reds and blues. I can’t do any jumps (attempted) or go off piste.

My goal is to do some easy tree runs, not be afraid to try blacks though I’m not aiming to be that good. I just want to be modest but confident at the sport, and most importantly, have fun. A few different types jumps or tricks would be fun but not looking to learn every other trick on the book.

Here’s what I am hoping to get:

  1. Snowboard bag (with rollers)
  2. Snowboard
  3. Step on binds
  4. Step on boots

I have a few questions in my mind too:

  1. If you own a roller snowboard bag, are there any disadvantages? Would a regular snowboard bag work well?
  2. What are the pros and cons of getting step on binds and boots?
  3. Are there any real differences between getting men’s and women’s boots?
  4. Same question as 3. for snowboard.
  5. Let’s say I am not able to plan a trip for 12 months, is there anything I should do to maintain the snowboard to ensure that it doesn’t fall apart when it’s used the next time? Or it doesn’t really matter?
  6. How do you practice with your board during off-season times?
  7. Considering my goals, what type of board should I get? If it matters, I am also a goofy.
  8. I am assuming that because I’m getting step ons, I should probably get the binds with the board at the same time? Or does it not matter?
  9. I see that there are different types of step on binds, how do I know if the step on boots are compatible with the binds? Or are they strictly matched by their model?

Phew - I know that’s a lot of questions but thanks whoever will be answering in advance!

How do I get into snowboarding if I’m in New Mexico?

I’ve always loved sports but haven’t gotten into any because I don’t have the opportunity. I’ve been really interested in snowboarding which seems like a bad choice because I’m in New Mexico and I don’t have friends that snowboard.
Does anyone know if I should even try getting into it or should I try something else.
