2027 Snowboard Shopping List - Intermediate Rider

Apparently the YES Greats XTRM has been sunsetted for 2027, so my plans got killed (Love the asym twin look) - Would love some advice on a board/boards!

About me:

I wear a size 10 boot (Generally prefer a stiffer boot), I'm < 170lbs, I ride duck for switch. I know how to change turn size/shape, how to do up unweighted and down unweighted turns. Aiming for 50+ days next season.

My current board(s):

Currently riding a YES Standard 2024 156, put ~70 days on it and shop says it might be time to start looking. Board is pretty great for what I do.

Misc:

I would love to maybe get get a Freecarver 6000 since i've found I can't hold as aggressive an edge compared to the dudes riding posi-posi with their carving boards. I'll also be buying a 151 spring break slush slasher for slush (and maybe pow).

I like to:

 • Ride moguls
 • Carve wide green/blue/blue-black groomers (I can bomb blues/blue-blacks that are)
 • Ride/Carve switch
 • Ride choppy terrain
 • Occasionally hit the park (straight airs, shitty boardslides on the XS features)
 • Working on steeps next season (can do down unweighted turns, etc - just need to put put reps in)
 • Working on more side hits next season

I basically never:

 • Ride powder
 • Butter

Is this snowboard too long?

I'm 156 cm tall (5,1) and I'm 56 kg. I wanted to get a Rome agent board which is 148cm (4,11) since it's shape and flex is what I'm looking for and I like the design. However I measured 148 cm with a measuring tape and I'm worried I will look ridiculous with a long board since I'm pretty short.

Given a wide board with a US9 foot size?

Went snowboard for two days recently (southern hemisphere) and the hire shop gave me a Burton 155W board. I’m size US9 and everything I’m reading tells me wide boards are for larger feet. Board just felt completely off and I had a bad time. Is this abnormal or am I just getting in my head about it?

Can I realistically sell my 2025 Jones Rally Cat (154cm)?

I bought a 2025 Jones Rally Cat 154cm new last December and have only ridden it 3–4 times. It’s in great condition.

I’ve realised it’s just not for me. I thought I’d get on with the camber profile, but I definitely prefer the cam-rocker shape on my Nidecker Escape.

I’m thinking of selling the Rally Cat and putting the money towards another board.

Has anyone sold one recently? Is there much of a second-hand market for them, and what could I realistically expect to get? Just trying to work out if it’s worth listing or if I’d be better off keeping it as a wall decoration.

Advice on buying a new board

So I've been thinking it's time to buy a new board since I got one I didn't like too much last time. I mainly want to use it for carving and for hitting the park, so I figure that a medium flex would be good, but I'm stuck on choosing a good length. I'm 158 cm (5foot 2) and 56 kg (123lb). I've checked multiple sources and each time I get different results for board length

How much flexibility is there in sizing?

I'm starting to look for used boards for my first season since there are lots of deals on Facebook marketplace and local stores right now. My "recommended" size range is 148-151cm based on my height/weight, but how much difference does a few centimeters really make? My cousin has offered me her 142 for free, I've also found a good deal for a 147, how much would I be struggling if I went with either of those? TIA!

First time on slopes

I’ve always wanted to snowboard since I was little and I’m going finally for 7 days in December, I was just wondering would it be easier for me to just take the skis or if I get a couple lessons either before I go or when I’m there if I would be able to enjoy myself by like the 4th day 🥲lol. Any feedback appreciated

First Set Up

Feel like i made off like a bandit. Went well over 10x this season, the first season i’ve been able to go frequently. Figured id pull the trigger and grab my own stuff as renting over and over was quite expensive. Noticed a shop an hour from me was having a massive sale so i took the trip. Wasn’t sure what i was looking for but the shop associate was a massive help and picked out some things for me. Wanted to give me enough room to grow so he didn’t give me point blank beginner things. Told him my main goal is to be able to do park but also take this board to Europe. After all said and done with a small interview like session I went with:

Ride Shadowban 154

K2 Program Bindings

K2 Boundary Boots

Oakley Fall Line Goggles

I’ve attached the receipt, but without the sale this easily a $2000 spree. Over $900 in savings!

Let me know how did I do?

First board?

How would a SPREAD LTB do as a first board?

I know spread boards are more for groundtricks / park, but its one of the very few models available in my very tiny country. Otherwise i might think of buying a Jones MT overseas.

Cheers!

Help with boots

I purchased Burton Ruler BOA boots back in Feb. The fit was great in the store, no heel lift. Got a 43.5 (half size up from my normal boot size).

Wore the boots 3 days running and on the third day it started compressing a nerve right above my left pinky toe. Wore the boots for another two days in a row hoping it was just a molding issue but it only got worse. Wore it one more time a week later and it was just as bad. So bad, in fact, that my toe was basically numb for several days.

I've reached the conclusion that my left foot is wider than my right, and so I probably need different boots. Never had any issues with rental boots though never wore them for several days in a row.

I'm looking at boots known for being roomier (e.g. Vans Aura Pro, K2 Maysis). Do you have any suggestions? Should I get a different size? Different brand? Anything would be helpful.

Tips to improve?

Hi all. I learned how to snowboard 10 years ago. I probably had 10 lessons and went to the slope regularly for a couple of months. However, I didn't go again for 7 years, which was a snowboarding holiday to La Plagne. I really struggled throughout the trip and felt defeated coming home. It's been 3 years since then and I've just booked another trip to La Plagne for Jan 2027. I've decided to get ahead of the practice this time around, and the video above is from this evening.

I am pretty rubbish 😂 I used to be much better 10 years ago, but I just can't seem to get my mojo back. I feel like I'm going entirely off of "feel", and I'm probably just doing it all wrong. I've been watching YouTube videos on how to improve, but it just never translates haha. Anyways, I got someone to record me in the hope that others might be able to give me some pointers on things I might be doing wrong! Any tips or suggestions is much appreciated. Thanks.

Any info on this board?

Hi peeps this “Dr. Pepper” board was gifted to me by a friend when I was a kid, and I had it sitting on my wall ever since. Now I’m just wondering has anyone seen something like this before, the best I could come up with on google is that it’s an 80’s logo? So I assume it’s pretty old, idk much about snowboards since I’m a skater in sunny SoCal lol. Is this just a neat promo board for Dr Pepper? Or did a actual brand make these a while back, also do yall think it’s worth riding, it definitely doesn’t feel cheap from what I know about skate boards but like I said I’m not to knowledgeable in this department. Thanks g’s

Advice on clothing

So this is going to sound stupid, but I see some people wearing proper water proof, professional looking clothing while others are wearing what looks like just regular clothes. So I was wondering if it would be fine wearing regular clothes as I don't like the feel of waterproof coats so much and if so, how do I prevent the clothes from soaking with water?

Posi-posi for beginner?

Hi everyone!

I've done about 10-15 days of riding within the last couple of years and decided to finally pull the trigger for my own board, so I grabbed a Jones Frontier 2.0 board and Burton Cartel X bindings from a sale.

Now my goal is not to ride the park or do tricks, but I will probably do some small jumps from the edges of the slopes etc. I will definitely focus on clean turns on the groomed slopes and outside of them in the deeper stuff when possible. My big question is about the binding position.

Is it a good idea to try out positive-positive position as a beginner? Or should I stick to something more +20 -5 ish?

Burton custom camber Vs Flying V & sizing

So I’ve decided to get a Burton custom board but what are the actually differences between the custom and Flying V, it would be great for someone with experience to tell me what both feel like cause idk which one to get.

And then idk if I should get a wide board or not, I wear size 10.5 shoes with a medium binding

Beginner purchased first set up

First time posting in here but I recently just purchased my first set up. I know I still need to get boots but plan on purchasing in store some Burton Photons so please give any opinions on those. But yeah please let me know how I did with this setup and any feedback, tips, etc. I’ve went for two seasons and a few times when younger. Last season went for around a week straight for an avg of 6 hours a day. Really love snowboarding and wanted to invest into this so I can commit come winter time.

Once again please let me know anything since I’m still a child in this essentially lol
