Savoury Sour Belts

Last night, my dream took place in a gigantic supermarket. These dreams come to me often, and I usually spend my time filling up my cart with packages of stuff I don't usually buy IRL. One of these items was a packet of sour belts/sour straps in a "savoury flavours" line. Tomato sour straps were the ones I picked out, but there was a green variant as well that was kale-like. I think a tangy, tomato-y sort of candy might not be the worst thing in the world, and I'm sort of curious to try something like it. I imagine it'd taste sort of like ketchup chips, but with sugar and weird chewiness.

Toasted Coconut Mac and Cheese

I had a dream last night that included several different weird food combinations, but the only one that I can remember is Toasted Coconut Mac and Cheese. I think with the right cheeses, it could be good, but it also sounds equally repulsive.

Sparkling wine and Coca Cola

In my dream I blended prosecco with Coke and called it 'prosecc-a-cola' which you must admit rolls off the tongue and should be trademarked. I happen to own a bar and wasted no time making one. Seeing how both ingredients are fizzy and sweet, it tasted and looked like...Coke. A pointless waste of time and ingredients.

ketchup pudding

dreamt i was tasked with making dessert for a big family reunion and i created a dish called ketchup pudding… it did not have ketchup in it and it was more like a mousse than a pudding.

the only ingredients i remember were tomato paste, almond milk, brown sugar, and some sort of chemical to give it the mousse texture.

my friend and i got in an argument about whether to add chocolate to it. they ended up being right.

A comically large joint (yes, as food)

IRL, I sometimes smoke weed with a friend of mine. In my dream the other night, were standing outside their apartment and I was eating a joint roughly the size of a hot dog (bun included). It was unlit. It was basically exactly as you would expect: tasted like weed, dry, the paper was papery. The filter (which I ate last -- were I smoking it, the joint would've been backwards) was unpleasantly crunchy.

Edit: Also, no weed fell out. This was a crumbless experience. The paper tore and chewed a lot easier and the weed stayed together a lot better than it would IRL.

I think this is kind of borderline somnigastronomy, but it was in a dream and I did eat it.

Help me make this cookie. It came to me in a dream.

I am trying to make a new type of cookie after the idea came to me in a dream. My idea is to have a lemon cookie dough base with blondie like texture, marbled or swirled with a cheesecake component. I want the final cookie to have an overall soft texture.

I can find lemon cookie recipes. I can find cheesecake recipes. But I am unsure how to combine them into a cohesive cookie as I suspect the more liquid cheesecake component would puddle as it bakes.

The additional trimmings like white chocolate chips or graham cracker crumb swirl can be added no problem, I'm sure.

I have searched online and it seems nobody has attempted this visionary concept, which perhaps suggests it is not possible. But I am determined to try.

Pixy Stix Coleslaw

In this dream I had an interview for a job at a local grocery store and as part of the interview they made me make their “signature perfect coleslaw” while they watched and laughed at me when i made a mistake.

So basically the cabbage was really finely chopped, and i added in 1/4 of a white onion and two leaves of fresh cilantro. Then when it was time to make the dressing, they handed me a small jar full of sugar mixed with various flavors of Pixy Stix dust and told me to use that instead of sugar, and handed me a jar of chili oil to put in it too.
I remember it being really good, and it probably is since it’s not too far off from my usual coleslaw recipe

Lemon curd empanada from a nightmare

Okay the rest of the nightmare sucked but this sounds so good

Fried dessert empanada filled with a mixture of lemon curd and whipped cream, and lemon golden Oreo pieces, and covered with powdered sugar. Absolutely NEED this to exist.

This was kicked off the main subreddit but here’s my home decor idea for excess duckweed.

Fat crocodile pond. You could even use a fat frog. Fat duck even. Fat animal in water is timeless. Perfect centrepiece. Elaborate pet rock.

Toaster Strudel Donut

I don't recall any context. My dream was almost like my consciousness was a microwave/oven or simply a box while the item inside was being crafted, without hands, as it slowly rotated.

A simple plain homemade donut. The wrapped in, somehow, a Pillsbury toaster strudel. Fully wrapped around the entire donut. Then fried and coated in the toaster strudel frosting, but it was chocolate. I didn't get to taste it. Only observe the item and watch it join others in one of those shelves at a donut shop. Every one filled with the same thing.

Dream recipe which I recreated. Recipe included!!

So, it opens with my mom and I in a car. We were going to a grocery store because she *really* wants to try this “traditional Chinese dish,” which as an Appalachian Gen Xer isn’t really something I’d ever expect from her. It had a Wikipedia page and was black rice with strands of yellow egg in it. I remember it being phonetically something like /dzɤʉ̃/ or /dzɤŋ/. Oh, also while we were at Kroger, Ted Cruz was giving a speech about truancy? He looked right at me and said “If this were 10 years ago, I’d call the cops on you right now for being out of school.”

He’s not even my senator, and ostensibly we were in WV

So I wake up and try to find this dish. Mind you, prior to this dream I had no clue black rice even existed. I couldn’t find it but thought it’d be fun to try and recreate it.

It turned out really, really good

Here’s the recipe if you’re interested:
1 cup black rice (uncooked)
2 eggs
1 scallion, thinly sliced
1 tsp sesame oil
1–2 tsp soy sauce
Salt, to taste
Pinch of pepper to taste
Pinch of chili powder or flakes
Tiny pinch of ground clove

Rinse the black rice

  1. Add salt and pepper
  2. Dice the scallions, wait to place them in the rice until plating so they remain crunchy
  3. Beat the eggs in a bowl. Add the clove and chili powder
  4. In a skillet, add butter or oil if it’s not nonstick

or if it is

  1. you do you lol
  2. Combine the eggs and scallions with the rice, add the sesame oil and soy sauce.

Enjoy — if you ever cook this and riff on it let me know in a DM because I liked my first attempt but I think it could be better.

Still can't believe my subconscious invented a dish convincing enough that I woke up and tried googling

New breakfast sandwich from McDonald's?

Basically as I was passing out at 3 in the morning, I dreamt McDonald's made a new breakfast sandwich that was like an egg McMuffin but it had some sort of spicy honey mustard sauce and sliced jalapenos. All I remember was they added hella slices of jalapenos and it smelled... So good. Anyways, I told my youngest brother about it and as you can see, he made it. It was super good. Totally worth.

Cranberry Sharks!

I made u/wwthrityfivex35's Cranberry Sharks using the recipe u/dorianfinch suggested in the comments!

I added a little oat milk to some of them to make the opaque gummies. It didn't change the flavor much but it made them a cute pink color.

They're delicious. It's like eating firmer set, homemade cranberry sauce!

Bread with all 14 major allergens

I work in a kitchen where we have bread that doesn't contain any of the 14 major allergens (gluten, crustaceans, eggs, milk, fish, peanuts, soy, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphur dioxide, lupin and mollusks) and I had a dream where I started a rival business making bread that was guaranteed to contain all of them in every bite. People were pissed, because it is ridiculous, but apparently was really tasty. I can't eat it because I'm allergic to some of the ingredients, but I made it my life goal to get it more popular despite how many people got sick from it

Chicagoladas

Dreamt the new food craze was Chicago Pizza style enchiladas where the cheese was under the sauce. Everyone loved it and I was being grumpy about them, saying that they're pretty much just regular enchiladas anyway

So in my dream I invented the True Chicagolada which were Chicago dog style (same toppings) micheladas

Ngl don't think they sound so bad but I hate tomato juice so idk if I'll ever give it a chance
