Macroplastic Ice Cream

Essentially chocolate ice cream with what looked like mint or pistachio, but was actually pieces of green plastic that dissolved at tongue temperature, resulting in a cold, creamy, chocolatey, and slightly plastic-y experience.

Soon after consumption (it was my birthday treat), I was stabbed repeatedly until death by three Serbian men, my throat too numb from the ice cream to scream in agony.

Mushy paprika with date on english exam about world war radio technology

Last night I dreamed I was taking an English exam about WWII radio technology while trying to write the current date on a tiny mushy yellow-orange bell pepper with a permanent marker.

The bell pepper was about the size of a mandarin and very obviously on the verge of rotting. Unfortunately the “permanent” marker turned out to be wipeable, so the dots kept disappearing.

Meanwhile the exam sheets were covered in microscopic unreadable text. The numbers also kept changing. 9.6 became 9.8, 2026 became 6026. At some point I looked at the girl next to me to copy the date format, but her dots kept sliding around too.

I was genuinely panicking because I thought we were only allowed to write with fountain pens.

Also, before the exam I apparently had to move apartments and was stressed because unlike my former roommate, who had somehow organized “movers from Yugoslavia,” I had prepared absolutely nothing.

edit: I mean bell pepper, can't edit the title. In my country it's paprika for the fruit also 😄

I made the maple syrup Chex mix from the "sergeant fish & friends" post

I made the maple syrup Chex mix (link to original post in comments) because I am an adult with free will and free time, and I needed to order groceries today anyway. And also because I am very into all things maple.

I didn’t measure any of the dry ingredients (just went by vibes), but in total, they came up to around the 6 quart mark on my big bowl. Guestimated amounts:

Wheat Chex: 4 cups

Rice Chex: 4 cups

Corn Chex: 6 cups

Peanuts: 2 cups

Almonds: 1.5 cups

Pita chips: 2.5 cups

Pretzel sticks: 4 cups

I also didn’t measure the wet ingredients, which added up to 2 cups. It was something like this:

Maple syrup: .75 cup

Butter: .5 cup (there's only half a stick in the photo, but I ended up adding more because whenever something doesn’t taste quite perfect at first, butter is almost always the solution)

Soy sauce: .25 cup

Sesame oil: 3 tbsp

Liquid smoke: 2 tbsp

Cholula: 3 tbsp

I started out baking it at 250F because that's what most traditional baked Chex mix recipes say to do, but I kept increasing the temp to account for the sticky sauce requiring higher heat. I finished it off at 350F after about 80 minutes total.

It turned out really good...a little salty, a little sweet, a little bit of heat! The maple flavor wasn't as prominent as I thought it would be...not complaining, but if/when I make this again I'll probably ease up on some of the savory stuff to let the maple shine through a bit more.

The Good Stuff, cocktail version.

Tagged NSFW for alcohol.
I like bourbon with a Dr Pepper mixer, and I like bourbon with a Snapple Apple mixer, so I thought I would try it all together. It was good! I think the apple brightened up the Dr Pepper flavor a little bit.
PS: I looked but could not find it, someone had a recommendation on which drink to pour first, does anyone know?

Ruby Cranberry Jellies

In my dream I was in I think Scotland and it was Christmas time. There was a festive treat/centerpiece on a platter that was arranged in a conical Christmas Tree shape. They were jellies that had a Mandarin orange slice in the middle, and the jellies were ruby red and round but cut like jewels. There were arranged in pairs, every two connected by a golden thread and you used mini tongs that looked like tweezers to grab a pair of them to eat. They were delicious, not like usual gummy texture but they were soft yet brittle somehow? Very satisfying texture, and the flavor was sweet yet balanced by tartness. They were arranged so that the biggest ones were at the base of the cone and they gradually got smaller as they reached the top. The biggest were maybe the size of a marble.

Thanks for reading! I recently found this sub and don't usually dream about food but did last night so had to share!

EDIT: After telling my spouse about this dream, we figured out that the texture of the dream jellies was like that of the crystal candies that were a social media trend awhile back!

Two balls of knafeh and a Nutella sandwich

They were on an ornate silver tray

Also , Kunafa is like a super yummy cheesy desert. It has crunchy noodles on top and gooey cheese inside. Then you pour sweet syrup on it

(Sorry for any spelling mistakes, this is my first post on my favorite sub. Yippee! )

TrueMooz Donut Shop: "Rotten Eggz"

I had a dream I was in my old high school, except it was now underground with no windows or natural light. The school also magically grew from two floors to five. It was my very first day and they somehow left classes off my schedule and mixed up the few class periods that I did actually have on my schedule paper. I was getting super upset and felt no improvement even as it was nearing time for me to hop on the bus at the end of the day.

Our bus driver was Dolly Parton and I was the only student on the bus. After she pulled up to my house she said "I just can't let you be upset like that, honey,!". She peeled it out of the subdivision and went at least 100 MPH on the highway for what felt like hours until we arrived at TrueMooz Donut Shop. The store was built where the guard rails would usually be. She drove the bus straight into the dining room through a giant garage door and she parallel parked right at the counter. The store had a mid century modern white and pastel pink theme with the employees all wearing white Victorian era suits. These included a striped boater hat and vest with the same color scheme as the store. The uniform also featured a large hot pink bowtie and name tag.

At TrueMooz, the customers made all their own items from scratch in their car seats. The employees threw the necessary supplies at you aggressively when you request a specific item from the menu. The lone exception was an item called "Rotten Eggz". These were the shape of halved hard boiled eggs with the egg white portion being waffle cone and the yolk portion being pastel pink buttercream frosting. They were served on an upside down old-school metal style garbage can lid.

No. TrueMooz didn't stock TrueMoo brand chocolate milk. I even remember thinking it was quite an odd choice to not stock it during my dream.

sergeant fish & friends

the most realizable food I've ever dreamed of was called "sergeant fish"; my friend's mom had made it for me and let me look at the cookbook it was in. it was a hollow pastry crust shell shaped like a fish and filled with melted cheese--essentially like a fish-shaped empanada with queso filling. The traditional way to eat it was to first bite off the fish's head, drink the cheese, and then eat the rest of the crust. if I did not hate cooking I would absolutely make sergeant fish.

during the same dream i also came up with three new flavors of chex mix that were only sold in syria: maple syrup, blue raspberry, and "onion juice".

Broccoli Cheese Tres Leches Cornbread Cake

I dreamed I was at a restaurant and was served Broccoli Cheese Tres Leches Cornbread Cake.

It was a fresh baked 6" cornbread/vanilla sponge cake hybrid with broccoli cheddar soup poured over the top.

I ate it with my hands and it was delicious.

I was deadass so confused, I woke up to google it IRL, and ofc, it was normal.

Li'l Bastards silver shortbread dachshunds

I don't know if they had silver royal icing, like sugar cookies, or if the shortbread itself was coloured silver; all I know is they were silver¹, came in a five-pack at Sainsburys, and the brand name was very definitely Li'l Bastards. Uncensored and everything

¹ = Probably inspired by my working with grey and black buttercream a lot yesterday, to be fair

The toenail candle sold at auction

There was a 8ish inch, average wine bottle-girth candle made of some sort of edible fat (i think salted butter, but wasn't specified), dashed through with celebrity toenail clippings. It sold for upwards of a million dollars at auction. I was not an active participant in the dream, but was both puzzled and a bit disgusted (from my own personal taste. If you're into the edible celeb toenail candle, more power to you).

It was meant to be consumed with warm, sliced, high-quality bread. Toenail clippings and all, after the wick was lit.

Edit: by "celebrity" I mean it was listed as containing the clippings belonging to modern A-list actors and pop-stars. Not that the candle itself was a "celebrity".

Awesome cake I was going to make in a dream

So I had a dream where I was going to make a three tiered chocolate cake where the cake layers were soaked in rum and the cake had a cherry filling. The icing was a typical chocolate icing but with a little bit of cinnamon. I never dream about food but I’m seriously looking into making this!

"grassroots donor" corn chili slop

i had a dream that i was accidentally in the middle of a music video/promo shoot that one of my ex-friends was starring in, and i was mainly just trying to leave because she clearly didn't want to talk to me and i felt awkward because the last time she saw me i was a girl and now i'm a man (transgender as it were). unfortunately i was in this big crowd of film crew and audience members and kept accidentally getting in front of the camera, so i sort of just had to stay and watch for a bit.

before she got into the music video part, there was a little promotional section that seemed like it would maybe be turned into a tiktok or something like that, and it was her going to this buffet table under a canopy and getting a big plate of white rice and then ladling on some kind of really grim looking meat chili (no veggies or beans) with canned corn mixed into it. i could tell that it was barely even lukewarm.

she smiled at the camera and said that she made it herself, and said very proudly and confidently that she had stolen all the ingredients to make it. the cameraman stopped her and said that her audience might not like that, so she did another take where she said the meal had been funded by her "grassroots donors." i had this really agonizing feeling like she was debasing herself in some horrible way and tried to leave as fast as possible.

Eaten the hardware store soup of my dreams

Processing img gywv1alukx1h1...

After dreaming this dream and posting about it here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/somnigastronomy/comments/1t772tg/famous_hardware_store_soup_and_its_terrible_secret/

I have at long last made the hardware store soup. It was surprisingly hard to acquire some campbell's veggie soup in my area, but eventually I found some. Winged the amount of garam masala, probably about a teaspoon and change. It eats pretty good! Not in the top 5 meals of my life, but still a solid and cheap lunch. Great job, dream me!

I needed a plain can of beetroots for baking something, but all we have is minty.

https://preview.redd.it/vyuk3i9r7x1h1.png?width=3000&format=png&auto=webp&s=d7a6cbe32dbe97d7d66136db9436916319b57471

I needed plain canned beetroot for my dream's twisted banana bread recipe but all we had were rusted and leaking cans of seasoned beetroot. Every single can of beets had some variation of "spring refresh" or "summer refresh" on the label, and were all seasoned with mint. They otherwise looked like normal cans of beets.

I was so flabbergasted and disgusted with my family for buying multiple cans and varieties of minty beetroot that I couldn't even form words. Then when I realized they were sitting here in the pantry not being eaten for so long that they expired, rusted, and leaked and my family still hadn't thrown them out I got so mad I walked away without talking to anyone and decided to take a shower. The dream turned into a nightmare of trying to take a shower in their horrible bathroom and having to clean it first, but no matter how much soap I used it still smelled like poop, there was always someone else's stuff in my way, and I kept finding new grime to clean. I woke up exhausted and realized I needed to clean the litterboxes irl.

I don't plan on making mint beetroot or the beetroot-based banana bread recipe, I hate beets.

Viral First Contact Stew

In this dream I was watching a cooking show. It was like a 'science of cooking' type thing. The guy presenting was making Viral First Contact Stew. Somehow a mathematical equation had proved that any hostile aliens would be allergic to the same things we're allergic to, while benevolent aliens would tolerate these foods well. Therefore, First Contact Stew, which the presenter assured us had gone viral, was a safeguard against alien invasion. You could offer this stew to the aliens and they would suffer a fatal anaphylactic reaction. At some point he used the phrase 'highly allergenic foods'.

The stew, which was not actually stew at all, consisted of walnuts, shrimp, and chunks of mango and tomato. Raw potato chunks were added at the end 'to really sock it to em'. All this was cooked in a pan with some water and no spices.

Yuk Sung Brownies

My wife said I should post this here so here I am.

I had a dream while napping today where, while on a trip, I encountered a person trying out their new brownie recipe.

The brownies were made with a touch of chinese 5 spice, red bean, and yuk sung (meat floss), and they were fantastically good. Crispy on the outside and fudgy red bean yet meaty in the middle.

What do you guys think. Should I be a mad scientist and try to create this concoction?

Edit: It's a holiday and the store was closed today. I'm going to make good on my promise tomorrow!

Edit 2: ingredients get. Follow up post later today!
