Was the Sonoma County Fair worth the price? As attendance slips, organizers look to 2027

Paid attendance at this year’s Sonoma County Fair was down 7%, but fair operators say they’re optimistic that interest will rebound next year when the fair will once again be held in July, avoiding an overlap with other fairs and the start of the school year.

Looking for housing options in west county, any tips?

My fiancé and I have been searching for houses to rent in Sonoma county (ideally west county) we’ve been on seemingly every app and had no luck, any secret weapons that can help us?

I suppose at this point we’ll just start driving around areas we’re interested in looking for signs. Looking on zillow feels like indeed nowadays

Why are people in their 20s-30s struggling so much in Sonoma County?

Is it the lack of economy? Lack of opportunities and events? The older population? High cost of living? Rampant use of substances?

My experience is everyone I know that grew up here and didn’t leave is not doing well.

ETA: I don’t live here anymore, but I do visit family regularly and keep in touch with childhood friends. This is just my observation!

Can anyone help me identify the dates of these old pictures of the old court houses?

These pictures are in my office. They are of old Sonoma county court houses. AI is telling me the first one was taken in the 1880s but no exact date. That one was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake. I am getting wildly different answers from AI on the second. It appears to be in the 30s or 40s but I don’t really know. Any help would be appreciated!

When you live in Sonoma County do you sort of miss what the Bay Area has to offer or is that the point of living out there?

As someone who lives in the Bay Area I love visiting Sonoma County and is a perfect getaway from the hustle bustle. I'd love to live out there but I'd hate to drive far to get back to the Bay Area to do things especially sports. As a visitor going to Wine Country is what makes it special. I don't know if I'd have the guts to change positions and the Bay area being a far drive .

Cost of removing a 50-year-old Silver Maple tree in Sonoma County?

It's a beautiful tree that produces lots of shade, but it was planted way too close to our house back in the late 70's. Branches threatening roof, and roots may threaten foundation and plumbing. Nostalgic for it, but I'm afraid it's time for it to go. Sometimes you just have to save the ship.

Would anyone know of any ballpark figures for an arborist or licensed professional in the area who could remove the tree, grind the stump, and arrest any further root development? Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

Can you identify this man who robbed Panizzera Meat Co. in Occidental last weekend?

Saw this on Nextdoor. I'm not affiliated with this shop in any way, but I'm cross posting because I hope they get this guy!

Here's the text from the Nextdoor post:

"Unfortunately, we were robbed at Panizzera Meat Co. on Sunday the 9th out of our register, during business hours. I have put together a compilation of the security footage we have on a YouTube video, but unfortunately our cameras did not capture a license plate or anything. Hoping someone recognizes him or can check their cameras to maybe see if they can get a shot of his plates. Sheriffs office case #SD260813006. He turned west towards bohemian highway out of our parking lot around 2:45pm on 9th, in a grey Subaru Legacy. Stay safe and vigilant out there neighbors!

Vehicle 1 Color: Grey/Black, Make: Suburu, Model: Legacy, Year: 2007-2014, Type: wagon, Other: west on Graton Rd. towards bohemian hwy at 2:45 8/9"

Found kittens on large property - need recommendations on where I can take them.

Hi,

I live in the county unincorporated area and need somewhere to bring the kittens I found today. I am going to try and trap the mother and gather the kittens but need advice and also recommendations on where I can bring them.

I am assuming that unless I can safely and humanely trap the mother to keep with the kittens then I probably should not disturb them.

The kittens appear to be at least a few weeks old, if not older.

They are currently sheltering under a stack of pallets.

The Cannery in Santa Rosa

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone here live at or know anyone at the Cannery? I'm wanting to stay anonymous so if there's anyone from there who is willing to discuss the issues and there's quite a few, let me know.

There's a few of us who chit chat there but staying anonymous prevents backlash.

The place has so many issues. One of the biggest is maintenance. Close to half the building wants him gone.

He's pervy and makes a lot of US women uncomfortable. You don't have to be, especially in a place you should feel safe and you call home.

I want to have a safe place where we can discuss the issues without anyone knowing exactly who's who.

Feel free to message or reply to the post.

Thanks!

Help ID thief from small business

Unfortunately, my small business in Occidental was robbed on Sunday 9/8. We are a small 112 year old meat business, the money doesn’t hurt nearly as much as the feelings of being violated. Just trying to get the word out, see if we can prevent another local business from suffering the same fate. No plates on the vehicle and no credit card used to track. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Updating this fantasy map of California and would love any new suggestions about what to include!

Apologies if you've seen this elsewhere - this is the most current version with lots of suggestions from other redditors.

I'm making a map of California in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on at the end too.

While it's around two thirds done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more petroglyphs, burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, ghost towns or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on here. Thanks!
