The tiny fish that made me fall in love with freshwater aquariums. 🐟✨
I've always thought neon tetras were one of the most beautiful freshwater fish. They're tiny and peaceful, but when aquarium lights hit their iridescent blue stripe, they almost seem to glow. That flash of blue has fascinated me ever since I first saw a school of them swimming together.
I wanted to capture that same shimmering effect with iridescent watercolor, so I painted a small series inspired by neon tetras and turned them into miniature fridge magnets using vintage-style slide mounts. The colors change a little depending on how the light hits them, just like the real fish.
If you could choose another freshwater fish for me to paint next, which species would you pick?
