Bodies of Magic special edition?

Bodies of Magic special edition?

Does anyone know of any special edition (or even just signed copies) of the new Freya Marske that comes out in September? I was hopeful for Illumicrate, since they did her previous series, but... I read an ARC and it was phenomenal! I want a finished copy, but due to space issues I rarely buy standard editions anymore. 🤞🙏

What is my top shelf missing?

I’m waiting on some books from a certain company that hires outstanding artists and produces exceptional editions! Can you guess what company? What do you think is missing from my top shelf?

Coveted Cover, The Cloister

This is my first book from CC and it's incredible. I'm floored. Contains two books The Maiden and The Prophet. It's definitely set a new standard for me.

Folio Society vs Illustrated Edition of ASOIAF? [No spoilers]

Hey all, I am new to the series and wondering what edition to buy. I am a lover of fantasy and high quality physical books, so I tend to want the best edition of a book whenever possible. After watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on a plane ride and loving it, I've decided to stop putting off ASOIAF.

Looking at the available editions, I see two that caught my eye: the Folio Society ones, and the Illustrated Editions. Obviously the Folio Society editions will be higher quality, but they're close to 10x the price. I'm not totally allergic to spending that much on a book (once in a while, as a gift, preferably), but it's really gotta be worth it. Anyone own them both? Is it worth the price? Also, I heard that sometimes the illustrations in the illustrated edition spoil what happens in the chapter. Is this a big issue for a first timer like me? Thanks

Genres you wish had more special editions

Exactly what it sounds like. I want to get into book binding/rebinding and sell them, but I want the books I make to fill a gap in the market. I want to make them for people who are into genres that aren't catered to often. I already plan on binding public domain books from scratch (older classics and things like that), but I do think that there's a lot of people in that space already so there's plenty of options to choose from (correct me if I'm wrong please).

So now my questions is, what are some genres you wish had more pretty books? This would be for rebinding unless the genre has a lot of public domain works. Thank you!

Grim Oak Press Malice and Valor!

I finally added some Grim Oak Press books to my shelves! Valor might be my favorite cover of all time, it’s just so freaking epic. I’d display it face out if I wasn’t so scared of it falling over lmao

But these are my first non TBB/FL/IC type books and I’m so excited about them! I’m glad I finally pulled the trigger bc they’re definitely worth it for me. Unfortunately I now want to collect higher quality books and my bank account is like mmmm do you have to lmao

If you were robbing me, what three books would you steal? 😂

Just for fun, I was wondering which of my books people would want. Also show me pictures of your shelves so I can be nosy!!

Weird vol2 - Cold Print & Others by Ramsey Campbell - Conversation Tree Press

Just received my Deluxe copy of Weird vol 2, a weird fiction series by Conversation Tree Press. Each volume is an anthology from notable Weird Fiction writers (vol 1 was William Hope Hodgson, vol 3 will be Arthur Machen) edited by S.T. Joshi.

This is a really beautifully made book, and as with most CTP books its letterpress printed. The impression of the text is not super deep but it can be felt and in combination with the Fedrigoni Acquerello which has a VERY nice texture to it, the book has a very pleasant tactile feel to it. The typography is excellent as with all CTP books and the page layout features extravagant margins.

The book is half bound (thats what CTP says anyway but I thought the coverage was more like quarter bound) in goatskin leather with very vibrant hand marbled paper boards and the top edge is also gilded. The slipcase is also super nice with leather caps on the top and bottom.

I haven't gone through all the artwork as I only just started reading it but the colour plates look fantastic as is the letterpress printed frontispiece. The decorative chapter headers and tailpieces are also a cool touch.

This edition didn't sell out and copies of the deluxe and collectors editions remain available but I hope that doesn't bode ill for the future of the Weird series.

Anyways really looking forward to reading this anthology and I hope some of you found this post or the pictures interesting.

Specs:

  • Limited to only 250 hand-numbered copies.
  • Signed by Ramsey Campbell, S.T. Joshi and Marcela Bolívar.
  • Letterpress printed by Nomad Letterpress in the United Kingdom on 120gsm (80lb) Fedrigoni Acquerello paper.
  • Half bound by Ludlow Bookbinders in the United Kingdom in goatskin leather and marbled paper from Daniela Prina.
  • Title of series and book foil-stamped on the spine.
  • 13 full colour illustrations by Marcela Bolivar.
  • A headpiece and two tailpiece decorations by Sveta Dorosheva, with the emblem artwork tipped in.
  • Title calligraphy by Svetlana Molodchenko.
  • Enclosed by a custom slipcase handmade by Ludlow Bookbinders, wrapped in Napura Kazar paper with goatskin caps on top and bottom and a Suedel-lined interior.
  • Trim size of 170mm by 240mm (6.7in by 9.5in).
  • 263 pages.
