The Rainshadow Orphans Waterstones Signed Exclusive Edition

Release date: 26/05/26
Price: 17.99 GBP

The first part of a captivating trilogy blending fantasy, science fiction and Japanese folklore from the author of Escape Routes, The Rainshadow Orphans leads readers into the richly imagined titular town terrorised by criminal gangs, where three loyal friends seek to avenge the murder of their beloved ‘aunt’.

Signed Edition with exclusive edges and endpapers.

The first novel in a dazzling epic fantasy trilogy inspired by Japanese folklore and Studio Ghibli, set within a mythical archipelago brimming with dragons and Sun Spirits, high-tech hackers and bubble tea.

Life is hard for the inhabitants of Rainshadow City, a place where poverty and corruption are rife and where they are terrorised by an underground criminal organisation known as the Lucky Crows.

Toshiko, Jun and Mei Kawakami are a family, bonded through loyalty if not blood, who live outside the law and who are seeking revenge for the murder of their beloved ‘aunt’ Reiko. Haru is the son of the Emperor, destined to one day rule over the Archipelago and uphold his mother’s ignoble legacy, but he is more interested in making friends with the magical Sun Spirits it seems only he can see. Theo, forced to leave his homeland, is a reluctant foot-soldier for the Lucky Crows. He doesn’t want to be a gangster, but as an illegal immigrant to the city, his choices are severely limited.

When Toshiko steals a dragon pearl from the leader of the Crows, it sets them all on a thrilling path which will determine the future of Rainshadow City. Set across two days and peopled with unforgettable characters, The Rainshadow Orphans blends fantasy and science fiction to explore what it means to stand up to corruption and take charge of destiny.

I need you all to talk me down!

So TBB have just announced that they will be reprinting Malazan books 4-6, and casually posted this pic as if I’m going to just breeze past it and go on with my day?!

I have the itch, I NEED this!!

They still have books 1-3 available on the website (here if anyone also wants it, but leave a set for me!)

I just need you all to tell me if I’m being crazy because I haven’t even read one book in this series 😂

But what if they sell out and then not buying them turns into the biggest regret of my life?!

Helpppp!!

How much is your collection worth? Secondary market valuations from RareBindings.net

Hello lovely book collectors!

I wanted to share an update on some new features on RareBindings.net, the site I built to help keep track of all the special editions being released these days.

I recently added collection valuations, so you can now see an estimated value for your collection based on secondary sales data from eBay. The estimate shows a min / median / max range by aggregating recent sales data.

If a book does not have secondary sales data yet, you can choose to include the retail price as the basis for the estimate instead. I’ve also added recent sales data directly to book pages, so you can quickly check what similar editions have sold for. That should make it easier to price a book if you’re selling, or check whether you’re getting a fair deal when buying.

The site also supports saved searches and stock alerts, so you can keep an eye on specific books, authors, publishers, stores, or features without manually checking everything all the time.

RareBindings now supports:

- The Broken Binding

- FairyLoot

- Illumicrate

- OwlCrate

- Folio Society

- Subterranean Press

- Suntup Editions

- Grim Oak Press

- LitJoy

- Goldsboro Books

- Dragonsteel Books

- Moonlight Book Box

- The Locked Library

- The Bookish Shop

- Arcane Society

- Lit Escalates

- Waterstones

With more to come! As always, I’m building this as a collector myself, so feedback, bug reports, and store suggestions are very welcome.

Thank you!

Reprinting Special Editions - is it fair to collectors or does it defeat the purpose of exclusivity?

With collecting special edition books, there are always some people who want books they missed out on to be reprinted - is this fair to people who bought the first printing? Does it defeat the purpose of special edition books and the exclusivity and rarity of them? Or do you think reprinting is fair because they aren’t the first printing so it’s seen as different, etc?

What are your thoughts on reprints? Are you for or against them and why?

Just a discussion question I thought would be interesting to discuss with some things I’ve been seeing on other pages lately 😅 let us know your thoughts!

SciFi Saturday - Folio Society Klara and the Sun

This week's pick for sci-fi Saturday is the Folio Society edition of Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro.

Kazuo Ishiguro's books are such interesting genre bending sci fi literary fiction mixes. The theme work in Ishiguro's books are the star of the show and Klara and the Sun is a book that really gets better with time, as you think more about what this book was trying to say.

I really enjoyed the overall concept and questions Ishiguro presents us with, but I think this should have been a bit shorter so everything could hit harder. The first 50% was so strong and I was really engaged, but around the 65-70% mark it just felt like the story was dragging on and I think this would have been stronger if it was shorter.

I found the characters and concept really fascinating, Klara and the Sun presents us questions on what it really means to be human and I continue to look forward to reading more from Ishiguro as he forces you to confront questions you may not have thought of before. While this isn't my favorite Ishiguro novel, it's one of the most thought provoking I've read so far and I definitely recommend people to check this one out! Plus this Folio Society edition is so pretty 😍

Has anyone read Ishiguro before or are you adding his books to your TBR? Let us know in the comments and if you have any similar recs, drop them below!

TBB The Dragon’s Blade trilogy review for sale weekend

TBB The Dragon’s Blade Trilogy review for sale weekend

Hi everyone! Since TBB is releasing their anniversary editions of The Dragon’s Blade trilogy this weekend, I thought I could leave my review in case anyone wanted more info on the books since this trilogy doesn’t seem to be as popular as Miller’s Ascendant series.

“Memory is the heaviest of all things. Even the strongest shoulders will be hunched by it in time. Nothing weighs upon us more, nor for longer, than memory.”

The Reborn King is the first book in The Dragon’s Blade trilogy and it is a solid debut with good characters, an interesting plot, and really good world building. I enjoyed most of the character work and relationships in this book, although I wasn’t a huge fan of the romance in here. It just felt a bit lackluster to me and I didn’t really feel like I was invested into the relationship. But there was a friendship in here that I was really invested in and I’m hoping to see more in the next book.

The world building is the star of the show and the strongest part of this book, I loved the world created and I’m definitely excited to learn more as I get into the second and third books.

The pace was on the slightly faster side and I think it worked well for this book as it’s mostly setting up the rest of the series. But the world building and plot were solid and I’m really interested in finding out where things are going to go from here. The writing style is on the simpler side and felt a bit choppy and abrupt in the beginning, but it did seem to get better in the second half. As this is a debut novel, I’m looking forward to seeing this aspect of his writing to improve as we move through the series and already seeing an improvement in book 1 makes me excited to continue! I also really like where the plot is heading, so overall a really solid debut novel.

I saw the sale details already posted on this page so I won’t get repetitive with those, but I do have a code - GYMJEN - that you can use at checkout. It doesn’t give a discount, it just lets TBB know I sent you. No pressure to use it though! Thanks for reading if you’ve made it this far lmaooo
