For me, it's the Eldarians they should've expanded on. They don't to be party members in anymore but do something else with them beyond 4's lore. I mean, to never be seen or even be mentioned again after is insane. Why put such a big f*cking magnifying glass in-universe on them in SO4? So much intricate lore & it all goes wasted.

Conversely, I think the Muah should've been less expanded. For some things, the less you, the better. It really adds to the appeal. That being the Muah. I think Project Hope was a bit contrived. It just Roak even more important to the universe (namely Earth) despite still being a primitive world hundreds of years later.

My main point being, Star Ocean lore could be as thick as the Trails series. If only they utilized or expanded on more recurring elements to it. Such as it's over 3 dozen or so races. Thoughts?

Bodyguard is such a good addition to a game, it should be in every JRPG!

Wow what a game, I love and hate it almost equally. I just got Albel on our way to find that giant dragon.

The difficulty spikes are all over the place, Kaddan was a nightmare, regular enemies were extremely hard but bosses and sub bosses were ok, even easy some of them.

The story and characters so far are really cool and compelling, I've known about the twist for years so I'm really curious how it plays out.

Honestly I was ready to quit at Kaddan but somehow pushed thru it, I'm going to level up a bit before continuing with the story which i'm really enjoying so far.

Not a fan of the crafting and some minigames are annoying but the combat is cool one you get it.

Long time player first time poster - I just bought Star Ocean Divine Force for PS4 from the bargain bin at EB games but they didn't have the original case. I'd love to print out the artwork so I can add it to my collection. Does anyone know where I can find a cover scan to use as a printable option? Obviously it would ideally include both the front and back as well as the spine name.

There are several discrepancies between the original Japanese script and the English localization - I also included footnotes describing those differences where relevant.

Many (but not all) PAs are associated with Affection Point (AP) fluctuations between the cast, which I’ve linked out in the PA titles for easy cross-referencing. 🫡

Picked this up today for ¥3,828, and it’s now the 19th Super Famicom RPG in my collection!

I’m really happy with the condition. The box, cartridge, manual, inserts, tray, and even the little plastic bag all look surprisingly well kept. This was one of those games I felt like I really needed to have in the collection eventually, so I’m glad to finally add it.

The funny thing is that I already beat the PS4 remaster in Japanese last summer, so I’m probably not going to jump into this version immediately. I’ve got a bunch of other SFC RPGs sitting here that I’ve never played before, and I want to get through some of those first.

Still, I assume the original SFC version is a little different from the remaster, so I’d definitely like to revisit it sometime in the future and see how it compares.

Either way, I’m really glad to finally have this classic on the shelf. For anyone who has played both versions, how different does the original SFC release feel?

A little update to my previous post about the local co-op mod I've been working on for Star Ocean: The Second Story R!

The mod now has spellcaster support!

Spellcasters can now use their Set Spells while being controlled by another player. During battle, players can also use the right stick on their controller to switch between their Set Spells, so you can actually select and use different spells without taking control away from the other player.

Right now, I've only posted the 1.6.0 (spellcaster update) on my GitHub, you can download it in the release. It'll be rolled out eventually to other pages.

I started this game last week, i'm after the war with Maria now in my party. Really loving it, i get the crafting is overly complicated for no reason so far but overall what a great jrpg.

Don't understand the hate that i see online, i played the other games but only finished 1, 2 and 4.
