With the new Avengers movie coming soon I’m hopeful that the Stucky fans will be resurrected. I’ve got a few fics lined up that I hope to have ready to post when the movie comes out and I’m wondering if there are any Stucky events or groups that have plans coming up?

I’m in a Stucky discord server but it hasn’t been active in over a year, and all the old Tumblrs i used to follow are inactive or gone. I’m not sure what else is out there?

I’m excited for the new movie though, mostly for the Stucky fanfic potential lol

Hi everyone. I was rereading one of my favorite fics in this fandom and it reminded me why I love it so much.

You know, I think I love at least one fic for basically any plot someone could possibly come up with, simply because I love this ship that much. For example, ABO is not something I usually read, but I once read an ABO fic because a friend recommended it to me and I was completely emotional over it. It was beautiful.

Anyway, authors are some of the most creative and wonderful people, and I love them endlessly for giving our Stucky fandom works that so often become something like classic literature to us. And yes, I am definitely thinking about the Ipseity series, which has basically become canon to me at this point, and NEC.

Because of that, there are things in fanfiction that have basically become reality for us, like Bucky working on the docks, or him having been a boxer, or, well, so many other things that show up over and over again in fics. Sometimes they come from the comics, but at this point they are basically part of Stucky fandom meta.

And this brings me to my actual point. Sometimes these incredibly creative authors come up with something so surprisingly amazing that it completely takes my breath away and sticks somewhere deeper in my memory than most fics do. Those are the fics I always bookmark with the "original plot" tag.

These are fics that sometimes follow canon and sometimes don't, but they have a plot twist, or some completely unexpected idea that makes you go, "How did someone even think of creating this work of art from scratch?" I love it.

So, with that in mind, here are my recommendations first. I hope you can share some of your own treasures with me too.

P.S. Obviously, I’m going to keep this as vague as possible, but my recommendation is: just open the link, don’t look at the tags, don’t read the warnings, and go in completely blind. You definitely won’t regret it.

Starting with the one that actually inspired this post, which I’m currently rereading:

1. Even as a Shadow by rubysharkruby

Seriously, for me this was one of the best reading experiences I’ve ever had, and every time I reread it I think about how much I wish I could erase it from my memory and experience it for the first time again. So if you’re reading it for the first time, please know that I am incredibly jealous of you right now.

1. Demon Seed by SucculentHyena

I got this rec from someone in the fandom and reading it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. So good and so original.

1. of two natures by VanillaBegonias

I discovered this one this year and I have to say, my brain almost melted out of my ears.

1. taking up the tangled threads (and spinning something strong and true) by IamShadow21 and kath_ballantyne

I haven’t reread this one in years, but I still remember every single detail.

1. A Short Life and a Merry One, My Buck! by jinlinli

This one left me disturbed for DAYS. Seriously, this is a work of art. I discovered it recently and I’ve already reread it three times.

So good aaaa.

1. Cousin by togina

I love everything togina writes and this one is no exception. It still managed to surprise me.

Okay, maybe for this one you actually want to read at least the author’s warning? It’s a good idea. But if you don’t, I read it without knowing anything and loved it. I’m just a little sadistic.

1. Five times Steve Rogers really, really tried his best to be what everyone expected from him (+1 time he couldn't care less) by StuckySituation

I find it hard to believe anyone in this fandom hasn’t read this one, but if you haven’t, it’s SO good, and the original plot is absolutely worth it.

1. i still feel your touch // your hand on my skin by spacebuck

So good.

1. Seven times Steve Rogers was not what everyone expected him to be (+1 time he really, really wasn't what everyone expected him to be) by StuckySituation

Read this one first and then read the "five times..." one.

1. Into That Good Night by Nonymos

Mic drop. That’s it. THAT is the best of the best.

1. Ipseity series

As I already mentioned along with NEC, but seriously, this series deserves all the hype it gets and honestly should have even more hype because, to me, it is the best series in this entire fandom. I LOVE all the characters and the way the author handled everything with so much sensitivity, and just... I love it endlessly.

But of course, with this one you should definitely proceed with caution and read the warnings.

P.S. I almost forgot about the Bring the Lion Out series. It isn’t complete yet, but what’s there is already absolutely worth reading. That said, this one is definitely on the darker side too, so consider yourself warned.

I read this fic a few years ago on ao3 where Bucky escaped hydra himself and went on a journey of self-discovery while destroying hydra bases. He specifically took joy in taking care of his hair; there’s a scene where he’s buying products like conditioner and colorful hair ties. There’s also a scene where he pretends to still be the soldier to get a hydra member’s guard down. I’m pretty sure this scene took place in a cave?? And I think the ship might’ve been stucky but I’m not too sure. I only remember these specific scenes, hopefully it sounds familiar to someone!

It was one of those fics where after getting out of Hydra, Bucky essentially thinks Steve is his handler, or at least in charge. He starts getting nervous that he isn't getting any sort of discipline or punishment. When Steve tries to explain that he'll never be physically punished again and that he can even leave if he wants to, they have a miscommunication and Bucky thinks Steve will get rid of him, so when he messes up later (breaks a glass or something?) he basically begs Steve to punish him rather than send him away. Steve is horrified and they have to take a while to get things straight, and at one point, Steve takes the string from his shorts and ties it around Bucky's wrist as a sort of promise.

There's a second chapter where down the line, Bucky is a lot more healed and mentally there, and shows Steve that he kept the string.
