Things nobody tells you about kiss-cut vs. die-cut stickers

This question comes up constantly and honestly the "which one is better" debate is a little misleading because it's the wrong question entirely.

They're just different. That's it.

Kiss-cut keeps the backing around the sticker. Sounds minor but it actually matters a lot — easier to peel, survives shipping way better, and if you're tossing them in orders as freebies they won't arrive looking destroyed. Die-cut goes all the way through so the sticker shape is literally the whole thing. No extra white border, no square backing on a round sticker. Looks cleaner, feels more intentional.

Where most people mess up:

Going die-cut with super detailed designs — thin lines and tiny points don't hold up great with a full cut and you'll end up with little tears.

Going kiss-cut with designs that have a ton of empty space in the backing. It just looks off.

Assuming kiss-cut is the "cheap" option. It's not, it's just a different use case.

Also something most people don't find out until they're already talking to a printer — sticker sheets are actually kiss-cut. Each sticker on the sheet is kiss-cut, the sheet itself is die-cut. Weirdly specific thing to learn at the last minute.

Anyway what else do people get caught off guard by when ordering? Feels like there's always something.

Best way to get clear backed stickers?

Hello everyone! Ive been running a dnd campaign in person for the first time and ive run into a small problem. Since I am using physical maps I need physical tokens for the monsters. For the first couple sessions I printed them off on regular paper with a black backing and it worked fine but a but clunky.

I had then had the idea to print them onto transparent plastic to make them a but more immersive. And then when I saw you can print stickers with transparent backings I thought it could be fun to make it so whenever someone defeats an enemy, they get to keep that sticker!

I have however hit a road block in that i dont actually know how to get custom stickers printed lol. Do you folks know the best and cheapest way to get stickers printed with a clear backing?

TLDR: whats the most cost effective way to print a bunch id different stickers with clear backing

Update: Changed manufacturers and went with a different effect. First attempt on the right and second attempt on the left

Thank you to those whi commented on my first post about making holographic sticker. I took what you all said on board and decided to change a few things to the file and also went with a different supplier that had more of the settings that I wanted. I really love how the second attempt turned out and will definitely go with this version for my online store! thank you all once again, I am new to sticker manufacturing and have learned a lot ☺️

trying to find a decent quality sticker making machine / printer for a beginner !!

i’m sorry if this is a bad place to ask, i’m not really in the sticker making community or physical art/crafts in general, this is for my little sister!

my little sister is turning 13 next month. while at a store i saw a “create your own sticker” book which made me think of her. she used to make stickers with paper and tape. i think she would prefer to design her own stickers instead of something like a sticker coloring book though, so i started looking into sticker printers.

i figured amazon is probably a bad place to look. most of the sticker printers i found seemed cheap and gimmicky. it reminds me of a sticker printer a friend of mine had that only printed really blurry pictures. on the other end of the spectrum, i don’t think she needs something professional-grade. while i do think she’ll like it, im not sure how much she’ll use it yk and if this becomes a hobby for her then upgrading could be considered!!! ofc budget is also a concern but my older sister has offered to help pay to get her a nicer one, so instead of having the budget of one broke twenty year old we have two!!!

i’m also not set on a sticker printer. if there are other sorts of sticker making techniques that you would recommend instead i’m totally open!! like ive thought of sticker paper that she could draw on, but i think she’d like to be able to print out memes and stuff which is why i abandoned that idea. i figure if she wants to make her drawings into stickers (i think she draws??? idk she’s shy and rarely shows me but what i do see is rlly good) she can take photos then print those out.

basically what would you recommend for a 13 year old who i think will get a good amount of use out of it, something that is decent quality but still beginner friendly and kid friendly? i dont like the dropshipped gimmicky ones that i see but i dont know where to find other options ?

What's the oldest sticker in your collection?

This one is from 1979! How cool. I recently discovered that classic Sandylion and Mrs. Grossman's stickies are collector's items.

I can't find those anywhere

I remember in school we used to trade stickers, not just any but ones that had like a tiny furr on the surface, no I'm not talking about puffy stickers or ones that are made out of some paper, I'm talking about an actual tiny furry sticker with mostly animal designs, I've been trying to find them (i don't have pics sadly) but no matter what i search for, how many people i ask or how many ai chatbots i ask how they are called or to find them (yeah i hoped that they could help me but nope) does anyone know where to get them or how they are called? The closest i found were stickers so doors don't scratch the walls but i remember it being sticker's for kids with cute designs, first time posting here, I'm desperate to finding them 🙏 thank you for everyone who can even remotely help.

Got some more sticker samples!

If you like em at all, you can find the link to my shop in my bio. I've got a pretty limited quantity of each. Just trying to see which, if any, sell some!

Highlighter trick failing after ink change

Hi guys, i’m feeling like i’m at a loss. After a very, VERY long time of trying different tricks to get my cricut to work with me when I make stickers— I thought I had found something that worked.

I tried cleaning my machine, I tried the tape trick, I tried redrawing the lines, etc.

Not even two days ago, I found out using highlighter over your registration marks would make the machine read and cut them perfectly when you’re using GLOSSY sticker paper. I’ve never felt such relief!! I had been FIGHTINGGG to get something to work. (The tape wasn’t working for me.)

I printed atleast 6 or more sheets of stickers that came out beautiful. And then I changed my ink because it was low and printing poorly. Now that I have brand new ink, (i sent the machine through every cleaning maintenance and all that) when I put highlighter over the marks, it smears them off! I don’t understand what i’m doing wrong. I waited maybe 25 minutes and they were still smearing.

Any insight?? I never had to wait for the ink to dry or anything before, so I don’t know what to do. Please let me know if you’ve had this issue before!!

Do people actually prefer die-cut over sticker sheets?

I always end up choosing die-cut stickers because they just look nicer on laptops and water bottles, but sticker sheets are way more convenient when you want a bunch of smaller designs together. Sheets also feel less wasteful sometimes. Curious what most people here prefer because I keep switching between both.
