690 cracked engine mounting plate resale value

I was doing the TET and crashed my 690. The impact on the crash pad caused the engine mounting plate to crack.

It can either be fixed on the bike (removing the radiator, ABS pump, etc.) and bent back and welded, or the whole frame can be removed, the engine mounting plate CNC-cut and welded in, the frame powder-coated, and everything reassembled.

The former is obviously faster (about a week) and cheaper (3x I assume). I’m leaning toward this option because I don’t want to wait a month or so for the by-the-book way.

That said, I’m wondering about the resale value. When I sell, I’ll tell the buyer what happened (with photos) regardless of how it’s been fixed — but how would options one and two affect the price?

Is my bike a Supermoto or Naked 👀

What you guys reckon? Or class the Gen 3 KTM Duke 690 as?

Obviously the newer Gen Duke look completely different, naked bike etc.

Mine has a SM690 seat installed which doesn’t really look much different to the bike, but to me, which is why I bought it (this vs a 09 Sm690 with duel exit exhaust at the back)
I went for this over a few things but 1 was the clean rear ended no exhaust & love how the exhaust can sits underneath the bike.

And the fact it looks quite cool with the alien lights.

But would you class it as a proper supermoto? I always wondered why they made this Gen but then also the obvious 690 SM model.

First Bike help

I'm looking for a first bike. I am coming from dirtbiking, but I need to stop riding illegally and do things the right way, so I'm asking around on some first bikes. I want something more powerful than my 250 (>40 hp) but no more than 90 hp (Dad says that's the limit). I have been street riding bikes for 2 years now, so I have some experience riding on the road. I'm thinking of a supermoto or a dual sport so I can still hop on the trails with my friends, but other bike recommendations would be appreciated as well. I have a WR250F. I tried getting it road legal with a dualsport kit but in my area they wont let me unless it was road legal from factory

Thanks

Fellas who've ridden i4s and the like, describe the feeling you had when you first jumped on a sumo.

I'm living through you folks for a bit longer. Ive had a zx4rr, zx6r, and now have a mt-09sp. Looking to get into sumo sometime next year. Give me your thoughts and feelings.

My daughter is 5’7 125 lbs and wants a super moto. Suggestions?

It’s her first motorcycle. She’s 24 years old and responsible. She is really interested in the style and look of super moto. They all seem tall though.

She’ll be doing a lot of in town stuff. Maybe some highway every now and then. She’s not sure about anything yet. Luckily she has a motorcycle class in a week from now.

Soon enough she’ll be buying. Any suggestions for a light weight, short young lady with a crazy spirit?

Handbrake setups for the drz

I’m having trouble deciding on a handbrake kit for my drz400. Was hoping maybe you guys could share what your setups look like or recommend a specific kit. I would also love to see anything you fabbed up yourself. Pretty much the only ones I can find any amount of info on are the 50 stunt kit, and the manic machining dual caliper bracket. Both would set me back $1000 for everything necessary. I do see other websites offering them, but they’re obscure companies that I can’t find a single product review on. Thanks in advance.

CR500 refresh

I had the big 500 out for a run recently and unfortunately, it blew out the back of the kickstart case so it’s time for a complete engine refresh and a redesign of the graphics etc.

I have been building up some parts over the last few years and while the case is being repaired, I want to cerakote the cases I have. I’m not sure if I should stick with a titanium or burnt bronze/gold combination. Polishing the cases is not a choice I will take, far too much maintenance required to keep them looking good.

The engine will get a complete overhaul, new seals, bearings, crank, rod, piston etc, and the head will finally get a decompressor to take the stress off the kicker section. I was lucky the failure mode was as tidy as it was.

I already have new graphics, seat cover, grips etc and while everything is apart, I’ll consider powder coating the frame and swing arm, as the polished frame is a pain to maintain, but I’m not 100% on that yet.

Needs new front wheel bearings too.

Any other ideas for the engine coatings are welcome.

Joining you guys from Japan 🇯🇵 — Looking for a shorter side stand for my lowered T120

Hi everyone, joining you guys from Japan 🇯🇵
This is my 2024 Triumph Bonneville T120.
I recently lowered the bike with 330 mm YSS rear shocks and adjusted the front forks as well. I really like the stance now, but the stock side stand is a little too long and the bike sits more upright than I’d like.
I’m looking for a shorter or adjustable side stand that fits the T120 without major modification.
I’ve searched quite a bit, but I haven’t found anything that I can confidently say fits my model.
Has anyone here lowered their T100/T120 and found a side stand that works well?
I’d especially appreciate:
Brand / part name
Where you bought it
How much shorter it is than stock
Whether the original side-stand safety switch still works
Any advice or photos would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks from Japan! 🇯🇵🏍️

Riding a supermoto without being able to do wheelies.

Hey guys, I don't know if I'm the only one, but I've been riding an SM700 for over two years (damn what a bike). I tried doing wheelies for the first time this year, and—what can I say—I'm just too stupid for it. It’s like my body refuses to let go of control. I come from a supersport background and have done a lot of training and sim racing with cars, so my entire muscle memory is wired to keep the vehicle stable. Don't get me wrong—I can ride my GasGas incredibly fast; I certainly don't need to be ashamed of my tire edges—if anything, people think I'm crazy for how I ride. But I just can't manage to get the wheel up because, the moment it even starts to lift or the rear end tries to break loose, I catch the bike again in about 0.0002 seconds. That’s actually a good thing, but it really pisses me off. I’m torn: I know wheelies are part of Supermoto riding, but I feel like I’m just too hopeless at it, no matter how many videos I watch or how much practice I put in... Am I the only one?
