Upgraded from my Callaway edge set to a set of Takomo 201 Mark ii irons with a KBS tour stiff shaft based on the recommendation of the Takomo fitting tool and now I can’t hit my iron to save my life. I’ll get a few good shots in here and there but right now I’m all over the place. Is this normal or is it just me?

I did a ton of research before buying my Takomo clubs and people online were very helpful so I figured I’d return the favor. I lowkey wrote a story some helpful some fluff. Sorry for the fluff in advance.

Short and sweet, they are amazing. I got extra stiff shaft with oversized grips. Wouldn’t change a thing.

18 birdies has me at 17.6 I would say I have always been around a 20. I’m a covid golfer, started as something to do, get tipsy with the boys. Started taking it serious about 3 years ago. My original set of clubs were an OfferUp find, a very old set of Wilson’s that I couldn’t even find the specs on. Probably early 2000s tech, very forgiving clubs with graphite shafts is what I learned to swing with. After about 2 years of taking golf serious(I’m talking swinging the clubs AT LEAST 2 times of week). Practicing at the range or just playing I got a lot of swings in. Eventually, after talking with people, and my own personal experiences, I came to the realization that I outgrew these club. Was I a good ball striker? No. But when I did connect, the clubs were so forgiving my distances would be inconsistent and the ball would jump off my club. Would hit a good shot that almost became too good and would constantly fly the green.

I am giving all this background information in hopes to connect to others on why I made the decision to go with 301 compared to the other sets of clubs. 101,202,mk versions etc.

So the search for a new set began, obviously huge fan of YouTube golf. Watch the kiwi boys, BDS, Bryan bros, grant, etc.

The real question was did I see myself as a good enough player to use the same set of clubs as these scratch golfers. Short answer, yes. Why? Because I wasn’t a weekend hack. I golf. I love it and im addicted. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon and definitely look forward to bringing the handicap down. I eventually came to the conclusion that if I’m going to GRIND and continue to get better than there’s no reason why I can’t “grow into” the 301 CB. I figured if I ordered them and couldn’t hit them, it would be a learning curve to help me learn how to strike the ball better.

I’ll have you know, there was NO learning curve. I used their online fitting tool, and it recommended the 301 CB for me. With my swing speed I knew I needed stiff shafts but the fitting tool gave me EXTRA stiff. They also suggested a 2 degree change in loft. I DID NOT do that and recommended to choose standard loft unless you know what you’re doing! I got the clubs and absolutely loved them from the very beginning. The look the feel, the look it gives when you address the ball. Look good feel good play good. They played great, was there a difference? Absolutely. But it was in a good way.

I was able to hit the clubs just fine. Less forgiving but in a good way. I could FEEL where I made contact. Whether it was toe or heel. I was more aware of my ball striking and the feedback it gave was only going to make me better.

My swing has grown even more since getting the clubs. I’ve tried to not swing so hard, but keep tempo up and always club up. With that being said maybe one day I get less stiff shafts for the longer irons (4,5,6) I’m 29 years old and I do feel like I’m starting to notice how much more effort it takes to swing the extra stiff 4 iron . I use it instead of a driver so that’s my own fault but it definitely just takes so much swing speed to get that club to work. Can’t really just smoothy one.

Okay I’m done, hope this helps someone. Love the clubs would do it again ten times over. Thank you Takomo for making golf affordable!

I am looking for some advice regarding the right KBS shafts for my irons.

Here are my current details and player profile. (I started playing golf 6 months ago).

• Age: 33
• Handicap: 37
• 7-Iron Distance: ~125 meters (~137 yards) total (including carry)
• Tempo/Swing: Average

According to the Takomo online fitting tool, the KBS Tour Regular is recommended. I noticed that it weighs 120 grams, which seems quite heavy to me. My own thought was to go with the KBS Tour Lite Regular or stiff, which weighs 105 grams. What would you advise?"

Just ordered the 101MKII irons with KBS Tour Lites Regular. I found this thread and all I see are them snapping. Are there any success stories or am I better off trying to cancel before they ship?

Edit: I generally have a pretty slow swing speed comparable to senior players

I ordered custom length and lie angle Takomo irons. A FedEx label was created in California on July 16, but tracking still says FedEx is waiting to receive the package.

Takomo’s site also says “To be processed,” although I received an email saying the clubs were on the way and scheduled for delivery July 22.

Has anyone had a similar experience with a custom Takomo order? How long did it take before FedEx actually received and scanned the package?

Im from ireland, currently a 20.3 Handicap playing callaway st rogue max irons with steel stiff shafts, I regularly shoot in the 90s with a rare break 90 every now and again.

But ive outgrown the game improvement rogues. Balls fly low and rollout too much for any control.

7 iron can make it 190-200 after ridiculous rollout. Need to get irons that have a higher launch and steeper angle of descent to hold the greens.

Online tool also recommended a .5" longer in the shaft and a lie adjustment of 2° up.

I normally hit a baby fade as a shot shape.

Swing speed on 7 iron is 85-95 mph. 6ft tall with wrist to floor of 3ft.

Been recommended the 201mkii's

Really really considering taking the plunge and ordering a set. Is there anyone similar to me that has taken the leap and what exactly are your thoughts.

Does anyone have a Takomo 201 MK2 iron head (5-pw) they'd like to sell? I'd like to try this model, and it's not yet available in my country.

I've received my MK101's With stiff 6.0 true temper Denali graphite shafts. I haven't had chance to go hit with them yet and truth be told I'm a little scared to with all the stories I see with heads coming off and shafts breaking.... any one had any experiences with these shafts, good or bad?

What is the protocol when ordering a mix of in stock and back order clubs? The iron set is in ready to dispatch but the driving iron and wedges are back order. Do they ship the irons straight away then ship the rest when ready? Or do they hold the irons back and ship all together? The website chatbot answer was vague!

I am 47yo currently playing 90s big Bertha clones called big brother. They have +1" graphite stiff shafts. My son has 2008 big bethas standard length regular flex. I shoot in the 100 to 110 range from white tees. . I know regular flex is my range. The extra 1" makes a huge difference for me. However when I hit my son's irons correctly it's a big difference in ball height.

My 7 iron is 140 to 150.

My driver is 190 to 210.

My budget is enough to get a set of new 101s with graphite shafts +1". Would the work for me?

Graphite is also a need as hand rattle gets me with steel shafts.

Looking to upgrade here soon, currently game ram fx77, shoot between high 80s to low 90s. Both these irons have caught my eye and been doing a bunch of research on the two sets, was looking to get others input on what way they think would be the best fit.

I currently own the OG 201 with the Tour 120 stiff shafts and I love them. They brought me from a 23 to a 14 handicap and are still killing it and in very good condition.

I have however been struggling my whole life with weak wrists and these heavy things are not helping. Played a round with Taylormade p770 with graphite shafts and just know that graphite is the way to go for me if I want to keep enjoying this game for years to come.

Selling my current set and buying a new set of Takomos is going to be cheaper than reshafting them all, so why not live a little right?

Using the 201 I got a lot better at ball striking, but I still have to work hard for it. Distance wise I am relatively short, I carry my 7 iron right around 150y.
This got me thinking maybe I should just go back to making the game easy. Now that I at least know how to get near the center of the face, get something that I don’t have to work so hard for.

With all that in mind, are there any mid to low-handicappers that are playing the 101 mkII or what are your thoughts on these for lower handicappers?

I’m looking into getting some Takomo’s for myself yet i’ve seen lots of posts about the kbs shafts snapping. Looking for insight on if i should just buy the heads and get them fitted at a local shop instead, this is my first set of “legit” irons i’m buying for myself.

I’m going for my first fitting for irons on Friday this week to determine shaft, lie, grip, etc but just gonna swing with other club heads to determine what i need. TYIA

Would anyone suggest this?

Would it be way more pricey?

Hey everyone !! I’ve been a Takomo 101 owner for the last 2.5 years and I’ve been thinking about upgrading in the near future but don’t know how much I should.

Originally I should’ve gotten the 101ts as I could’ve grown into them, I’m a 18 handicap but my irons are the best part of my game.

I have great ball striking, my struggle is distance control, I can hit my 7 iron 180 yards or 160.

Has anyone upgraded from 101s and upgraded too far? Or had any experience?
