Hey fellow Israelis, is there a way to rent a car today in the evening after the fast in Jerusalem (or surrounding areas like Tel Aviv)?
We want to go to the Dead Sea to camp tonight and come back before Shabbat to Jerusalem. However, there seems to be no public transportation (buses) so late tonight to the Dead Sea.
As for renting a car, the rental services seem to be closed all over the country, is that right?
Are there any other possible ways to get there?
We would really appreciate all the possible help!
I'm a physiotherapist in Tel Aviv and I get asked this constantly, so here is the honest version. It confuses a lot of people, especially olim, and getting it wrong costs money.
The key thing to understand first: there are two separate routes, and people mix them up.
Route 1, in-network (through your kupah). Physio at your fund's own clinics or contracted providers is basically free or a small copay. The catch is the wait, which can run a few weeks depending on your area and the season, and you usually get a set course of sessions per referral rather than open-ended treatment.
Route 2, private (out of network). You pay out of pocket, see whoever you want, and there is no wait. Here is the part almost nobody gets right: only one of the four funds gives you anything back for private physio, and only through its paid supplemental plan.
Private (out-of-network) reimbursement, fund by fund:

(The funds adjust these caps year to year, so check your current number. This is the 2026 picture.)
If you are with Maccabi, Meuhedet or Leumit, the kupah gives you nothing back for a private physio. Your only route to a partial refund is a separate private supplemental policy (Harel, Phoenix, Menorah Mivtachim, Migdal, Clal, Hachsharah), which usually pays back somewhere around ₪100 to 150 per session under "ambulatory treatment." Check your own policy, they vary a lot.
Things that save people money and hassle:
- Ask for the official tax invoice (חשבונית מס) after every session. No invoice, no refund, and a plain receipt does not count.
- The Clalit referral is valid for 2 years, so get it once and reuse it.
- "The kupah covers physio" and "the kupah covers YOUR private physio" are two different sentences. Know which one applies to you before you book.
- Private physio in Tel Aviv runs roughly ₪350 to 450 for a 50 to 60 minute one-on-one session, so if you are Clalit and eligible, the refund covers a meaningful chunk.
Bottom line: if cost is your priority and you can wait, go in-network. If you want to pick your physio and start now, go private, and only Clalit refunds part of it. Everyone else needs private supplemental insurance to get anything back.
I am a local private physio so I have a bias, but these rules are the same whoever you end up seeing. Happy to answer specific questions below.
r/telaviv, this has been an amazing summer. We’ve made friends, learned some Hebrew, improved our surfing and city-biking, and overall have felt very welcomed.
We’ve also come into possession of a lovely male hamster. Long story short, it and its six infant hamster children will all be looking for homes in a couple of weeks once the kids are done weening from their mother.

Hi, I am new to biking around Tel Aviv and I rode a couple of times to school.
I live in southern Tel Aviv. I take Menachen Begin or Schlomo Lahat up to the Yarkon. The issue is crossing the Rokach boulevard. It is very chaotic and the cars go super fast around that area.
The second picture is what I did last time because Google Maps suggests a dangerous way in the car lane and the sidewalk is a bit confusing. At some point I had to jump off a wall and cross the street and then I went into the bus stop for the train station by mistake (that’s why there is a weird loop before going uphill again).
I was wondering if anybody has a preference to get to school using a safe route or even a bike lane. Thank y’all for the help.

When I lived in the UK, I joined a community through an app called Meetup where a bunch of people would coordinate a meetup on a free or paid football pitch, then just play two hours of football. Zero commitment, no training sessions, and if you didn't want to play on a certain day, you could easily skip.
Is there anything of the sort in Netanya or nearby? Bear in mind my Hebrew is very poor, so I'd prefer English- or Russian-speaking communities as a first priority; French- or Polish-speaking communities would also work.
If there is nothing of the sort, competitive teams with once-a-week, play-heavy training would work as well. If there's nothing in Netanya, Tel Aviv could work as a last resort, but I'd rather not travel. I'm posting here because there is no dedicated sub for Netanya.
