My honest 2 cents about Venom #258. It's actually better than what people say.

So, here's the nth post about it but let me finish and then judge.

I really liked how Ewing wrote both of them here. MJ showed her maternal side with Dylan and her adult side with Peter. Same for him by not lashing out at MJ like many people wanted. He gave her time to tell what she wanted and I have to say I really liked her apologize.

On the first image, MJ comments how her coworkers started to slut-shame her for having a relationship with P. Which his an obvious 'take that!' to the misogynistic readers who started hating her the moment Wells run started. Peter talks about how he was 'thrashing around' when MJ came back, refering to the first year where he was the shadow of himself.

Then, MJ admits she was 'thrashing around' top, probably refering to how antagonistic she was during the first year. She then confirms she stayed with P. only for the kids and then because of the pain they were both sharing, something both realistic and predictable but many people, at least here on the sub I discussed with, didn't realize. And then she admits she knows how much Peter was hurt and didn't deserve it and apologizes for it.

The second image is about Flash and Ewing takes his time to confirm there's nothing between them, as he said in DS #1. He probably thought it was a neat idea but the backlash prevented it, especially when the hints in DS were only in Kelly's side (a BND writer). So it's easy to say, with 60th anniversary of MJ, QiB and ASM #1000, she won't have anything with Flash.

Now, returning to Peter and MJ, it was obvious they weren't going to be a couple the *day her ex fucking died*. This isn't New X-Men. There's no kissing on a tomb. I actually think they're on a better place than they were with Slott and Wells. Cause Slott just used MJ to mock the fans and never make her apologize for her wrongs (Spencer did at the beginning of his run) and... Well, Wells. I don't know why people expect the two of them fucking on P's grave and being serious at the same time.

And about MJ in the first year of Wells run, I don't know if Ewing retconned it or not. Because she apologized for how she hurt Peter and all, but he also stealthily retconned the Hellfire Gala part (the 'Dammit Peter this is not about you!') when her boss didn't mention the Krakoa pharmaceutical in their meeting (what issue of ANV was that? 10-12, iirc). Which makes me think the events pre-DL didn't completely happened like they happened in Wells's run.

Venom instead revealed to be more antagonistic than usual. Don't understand if because they wanted to be the bad guy to make MJ the good one at Peter's eyes or because they still resent him like he admitted in ANV #10, because the events didn't go as they said (Peter tried to kill them only when Venom tried to force a bond, not when he found out the suit was alive).

Anyway, I actually liked the issue. I don't know if it's just me or people are just a bit too pessimistic (I can't blame the though) but it's a 8/10 at worst.

Now let's see what kind of failure ASM #1000 is gonna be...

My thoughts on the Venom #258 situation. A nothing burger, nothing we haven't seen before. Burnout from the 'will they won't they' untouchable carrot. I am tired as you will be after reading this.

Venom#258 was hyped up by many for many things with a lot of unrealistic expectations. All it did was return to the same old status quo 18 years ago. Arguably worse.

It's been less than 2 days since I finished Wells run. I had grown tired of Rabin Jr. Seeing the writers still trying defend the character & trying to compare him to Peter is seriously annoying.

In reality he's not even the worst love interest MJ had since OMD. It was Bobby Carr. Bobby Carr was far worse than Rabin Jr. could ever be. At the time they were really trying to make us hate & forget MJ. MJ taunted Peter about Uncle Ben then dated Bobby Carr a drug addict despite MJ being very anti-drug in her history. She was shown far more visually intimate with Bobby in the comics. They made her Bobby Carr's trophy doll.

Then in the "Many loves of Spider-Man" comics they showed MJ moving on & not caring about Peter saying fame & glamor is all she ever wanted.

They also ruined Felicia's character & her relationship with Peter post OMD. So Peter can't have the next best stable relationship with Black Cat. We also had the infamous Daredevil & Black Cat hookup during this time.

And they made Peter a simping manwhore.

Then Marvel made a new FORGETTABLE love interest for Peter aka Carlie Cooper who was based on Joe Quasada's daughter. It was during this time MJ returned. MJ returned to being Peter's friend then BND writers tried show us Carlie & Peter are compatible while MJ & Peter were always incompatible. While Felicia was returned to being a casual hookup friend & stopped being in love with Peter.

Next time when Peter & MJ's relationship started to heal & they were getting close to being back together. Fans were once again finally hopeful after BND shenanigans. They really thought #700 was MJ & Peter being back together. But then then BND editorial killed Peter then had Otto in Peter's body Sexually assault MJ. Otto really destroyed their relationship again this time & MJ also truly lost her trust in Peter. She started dating Pedro. A fireman who saved her after being disappointed for Peter not saving her. And they character assassinated Black Cat even further & made into full on Villain this time.

After Peter returned to his body MJ wanted be gone from Peter's life once again because of his life as Spider-Man. But then she went to work for Tony Stark & be a high profile employee of a Superhero. And she was angry at Peter for lying to Tony.

Then came the era of Peter's new forgettable love interests & MJ "menzing".

Then After 10 years Nick Spencer came to this book like a raft in middle of the ocean for us drowning fans. He spent 3 years trying to fix all the damage done in 10 years. Got MJ & Peter back together. Healed their relationship. Developed MJ's character. Healed Felicia & Peter's relationship. Also developed Felicia's character from her previous shallow self. Did everything in his power to undo OMD then undid the Sins Past. Editorial did everything to interrupt his writing. BND writers had comatose Peter react to Felicia even though Spencer wanted it to be MJ. Spencer was given the task to return to status quo from the worldwide saga. And he also took the mission to fix all the issues fans had gripes with. Many people think his run sucked but the story being mediocre is not that big of a surprise. He also had to shorten the story from 100 issue. It was objectively mediocre but he did better than most with all interference from editorial. But his run at least gave us hope for future stories.

Then again Zeb Wells happened. And we got Rabin Jr. MJ hating Peter & Rabin Jr. flexing on us despite the fact that it was Peter that saved their family. BND writers fully intended do more damage but the Fan backlash probably slightly changed their position about MJ/Rabin Jr. . Because Peter literally called her his sister. Peter/Felicia lasted merely 2 chapters. Then we got another forgettable love interest Shay to stop Peter from fully dating Felicia. Well's run ended with a meta commentary about Peter & MJ returning back together eventually someday. A false promise by the editorial.

Then Venom war we had ANOTHER will they won't they moment & a panel Peter drawn like a chud while MJ flirting with Rabin Jr.

Current day. They made MJ venom & blasted Peter off to space so MJ & Peter can't meet. Once again editorial made Ben Reilly drive a wedge in to not only MJ & Peter but all of Peter's relationships. We got Raelith. Who serves no purpose other than stopping Peter from having an actual romantic relationship.

Black Cat flirting with everyone. And we got MJ & Flash tease.

Currently MJ has become a hero & unlikely to return to being a civilian any time soon. ASM book will never have Peter have a meaningful relationship with a hero. And currently there's an unnecessary unresolved issue of MJ killing Torment.

Now onto the issue itself. MJ said she thought he was dead. Clearly new writer trying to fix the issue previous writer left behind with a soft retcon. MJ's had no reaction that implied she thought he was dead before. She was not really relieved to see him alive & immediately pushed him away. And continued to be harsh to him. In this new issue MJ actually apologized for the first time which I have been waiting for a long time but in the previous run Spider-Goblin issue Peter said to MJ she did nothing wrong & all MJ said was "I know". MJ is also now step-parent to Dylan which now makes her too old to date Peter according to current editorial standard. And she actually 4 years older now. Because they want infantile Peter. Even though both should be pushing their 30's now. MJ & Peter also "friends" now. Just like she is "friends" with Flash now. She had exact same conversation with Flash in the exact same place. They left her relationship with flash in a new mystery box. And flash is not a love interest that will simply go away.

Her relationship with Peter returned to same status quo as before but in an worse position. BND editorial won't let Peter have any meaningful relationship with MJ, Felicia or any other character anytime soon. They definitely won't let him grow. Marvel will continue to tease us to string us along all the while MJ's popularity is all time low as a love interest & continues to worsen among new fans. Many haters of Spider-Man fans will say we should move on already. Honestly we actually should but not from MJxPeter but from Spider-Man entirely. That's most healthy. But we are still here because most of us die-hard fans & unhealthily obsessed with Spider-Man.

I haven't read any comics for 4 years & dropped the book since beyond arc. The recent upsurge in Spider-Man media, the upcoming #1000 & people praising Joe made me pick up & continue reading again recently. During Nick Spencer run there was at least hope for development but current the editorial attitude is stark clear. They make no pretense. This issue except for trying to justify Pau.l to the readers most things can be taken positive but the problem is the feeling of "wait a minute I have been here before!". Deja Vu. The rinse & repeat of will they won't they. This is what made me feel really frustrated.

My take on Venom 258

I know a lot of people are disappointed and I am too but I still think consider this issue to be a net positive. so here's a list of what I didn't like (cons), did like pros and stuff I felt neutral about (neutral):

Cons:

-too much time on rationalizing for MJ and not enough on atonement for Peter. I wish they would have had MJ go into a bit more detail about all the times she lashed out at him throughout the years, focusing a bit more on what he went through.

- at this point peter has long since taken responsibility and apologized for anything he did after "the incident" having him apologize again kind of takes away from MJ finally apologizing after all these years. especially since peter has been wanting to talk things through with MJ for years and she's the one who's been running from the conversation.

-it feels like the writers are handling MJ with kid gloves, while everyone else gets the mike tyson treatment. Everyone else has to deal with the consequences of their actions but MJ gets off practically scott free, no one seems to hold her accountable for anything...

Neutral:

- despite what I said about it earlier, I can finally see what MJ meant about peter making everything about himself. He refueses to let anyone apologize to him, instead putting the blame on himself.

Pros:

-low bar maybe, but this is the nicest conversation MJ has had with Peter in years.

-we finally got MJ admitting, out loud, that Peter didn't deserve how she treated him. I've been waiting years for that

- we got confirmation that MJ never really loved top knot, their relationship only worked when they had a distraction to avoid actually being together (which makes sense when you remember how MJ constantly name dropped them whenever anyone mentioned her relationship with you know who at the time.)

- we got some answers to some of the plot holes lingering from the well's run like "where did top knot's money come from/ go?" and "how did no one react to MJ just appearing with a new man and kids?"

- I honestly think the "let's see what happens" line is really promising

- I also think the "I'll be watching you" line implies peter will be in more upcoming venom books, giving them more time to talk

IDK maybe my bar is low but I'm hopeful.

Venom #258 Spoilers

Well... I'm amazed they're really sticking with the "MJ was gone for four years" thing. But, there's a lot of resolution here. A lot of nice stuff. No true "I'm not dating Flash," but still pretty much pointing out that it's not happening on MJ's end, and opening things to a future reconciliation, even if she outright mentions Raelith.

Cute moments though.

It all started with a new suit...

I recently picked up The Birth of Venom comic collection, and after finishing reading it, I find it's even more chilling reading it with all the new symbiote lore and history in mind. Like, seeing all the small signs something is up with the new suit, and the brief moments of characterization for the Symbiote that will go on to be called Venom, I was honestly caught off-guard by how almost chilling the whole arc felt. Anyhow, I'm something of an amateur Blender artist, and since I've started making more Spider-Man renders again, I decided to make a little render for this iconic storyline for the ol' webhead. Also, as an aside, which version of the Black Suit Saga is your favorite? Be it any the comic versions, or any of the show/film/video game adaptations

I think Eddie should stop sacrificing himself to protect his so-called family

When Sleeper was born, Eddie used his own human body to protect it and the Venom symbiote. In Venom 2018, Eddie did everything he could to protect Dylan. In Venom 2021, Eddie was killed, and he was forced to be absent. However, after his resurrection, he was stabbed and bled profusely while protecting Dylan and the Venom symbiote.

But his so-called family never seemed to be satisfied with him, they always thought Eddie was doing a terrible job and wouldn't allow him to make any mistakes. That symbiote even viewed Eddie as the abuser in their relationship.

This is really unfair. I think Eddie should care more about himself instead of those greedy, ungrateful bastards.

Question about EB:C and DS.

Hello all , to preface this it's possible my memory is just hazy so i'll appreciate any and all corrections.

So in EBC when Eddie and Carnage are captured Eddie is given the option to inject himself with a special serum that would kill Carnage , and his ability to bond with Symbiotes in general.

At this point however , weren't they still tied to one another to survive ?

If memory serves every time that Eddie got nearly separated from Carnage in EBC he nearly died from his injuries , and when Carnage dumped Eddie in DS to bond with Torment , Eddie was left in a critical condition near-death , and was only saved because Venom carried him to a hospital post-haste.

So i guess my question is , how would he have survived being forcibly debonded from Carnage back then ? Would Melina be able to give him the same immediate medical care ? Was the serum supposed to heal his body aside from killing Carnage ?

Would he still be left to die like any other time it happened ?

Potential new Eddie symbiote is Bedlam?

I've talked about this on my socials and I don't have exact screenshots- but what if Eddie's "new" symbiote is Bedlam? And he'll just be Bedlam now and Bedlam will be the new enemy of Venomj?

TLDR: there's a couple of solid hints about Eddie being Bedlam, it makes sense from a vibes and synergy POV. I dont think they wanted to do it, its kind of cool for female symbiote fans to see themselves.

I really wanna be mean but I'll save it for the end.

The 2%:

- I recall that Ewing said Bedlam had been "locked up and was still out there" and going to be a "problem for Eddie" during one of the Death Spiral Venom: Unleashed columns.

- Bedlam is the only symbiote that Eddie's actively bonded to other than Venom recently and if I remember how he was created he *was* Eddie and now he's his own KiB entity.

- he's also the only new symbiote besides Knull with his own action figure.​

- this actually puts the eventuality into perspective. His whole thing about Eddie always being Venom is Ewing going "hey guys. I get it. He always will be venom in some capacity or another." So I'll bet post QiB there'll be 2 venoms. The Eventuality isnt caring but it does introduce the KiB host people bonded with the most.

- which is pretty nice when you think about it. Maybe not a forever send-off but the dude clearly cares/cared.

The Vibes:

- they know Eddie is popular but given that David Buckley *just left* Marvel Comics and they clearly want more movie and comics synergy because money - they know Venom is popular cause us dumb assess went to see the movie and they think he's more popular as a dumb anti-hero jock.

- but Ewing recognizes complexity and since Venom has now become a story about female rage but since they can't get rid of Eddie he's the opposite.

- instead of mastering killer instincts he's going to be mastering his own anger. Again. So while MJ is facing her own rage and they have a potential way to put Venom in the MCU they can also put Eddie...but as Bedlam not as Carnage.

- as for carnage it seems like he's gonna be Venom 2.0 and maybe rebond with norman since healing power of love. Or a new thing. So we'll hsve Carnage, Bedlam, and Venomj.

1000 isnt just a family reveal story. Its a new "sinister six" for new fans.

- Kelly isnt doing a new family member story. Crane is gonna be evil and they think they need to revamp old characters for new ones. Crane is gonna be evil, Brian is gonna be the new Lizard/Sandman/IDK - maybe torment will come back as Shocker, and either MJ or Eddie will be the new "venom" with a new "oh shit: peter can't escape it he failed Eddie/MJ and now they are evil again" twist.

- this is because no one directly asks for "old" characters like Liz or Scream or anybody but this creates a potential backstory that can be adapted to the MCU.

- the reason Eddie and Venom are "normal" ish in Rivals because they've proven so popular Marvel isnt going to fuck with it/maybe Sony can't touch it?

- Sony might try to make Venom more lethal protector-y to their spider-people. Venom might not appear as Zendaya in the MCU but it won't be Eddie.

- Gomez wasn't kidding when he said Slow burn for PeterMJ. Eddie and the Symbiote idk.

PLUSES. (The positives)

- I really like the idea and symmetry of using symbiotes to talk about rage. Marvel has never done it well and having Eddie "master"his anger and himself is actually pretty cool.

- I like the MJ design with the red hair. The teeth need to be improved upon but not only is it gorgeous its also really unique.

- given how the symbiote is portrayed and its been awhile since a female host and no one has taken the time to build someone like Liz up, or Widow, its recognizable and cool.

- even if I disagree with how its done, if you're dead set on Peter and MJ having a "kid" Dylan is a good idea. Eddie did turn out to kind of be a shit dad. It would help Peter and Mj to get together again by co-operating over him.

- I don't like symbrock as much as I did and I see the rational of putting Eddie into a new symbiote both synergy wise and otherwise. Also if you think about it that's why Jordan's on the book. You guys professor X'd him. Which could be cool if you didnt make him disappear completely. But. He might come back.​

- its cool to master your demons and stuff and fall in love with them but you could do the same story with MJ. Symbrock got really big because of the movies. Which...weren't even that romantic?

- I am a soule Stan and I think the poor man walked into a fire ant trap. I hope if they do make Eddie Bedlam people are nice to the guy. He had nothing to do with Queseda or Wells. (Please just don't fall victim to the "my childhood! I wanna write spider-man!!" Curse man. You're so much better than that.) Unleashed will be peak.

- honestly splitting up an adult "venom" and kid venom would be good because I do see a lot of kids with venom stuff. And venom did beat felicia. And did a bunch of other stuff. And I get the impulse to be more kid friendly. It *is* Disney and even removing rhe guy with mental health issues makes sense.

- I do think they care about Eddie. Which is why he's getting the mini. I think we all need to resd it! ​

Mean and Bitter Thoughts (seriously I'm gonna get nasty)?

- I'm not gonna and I wouldn't. If anybody from Marvel reads this though y'all know there are desparate PeterMj people who are gonna use your stuff to make Ai versions of how they want the story to go. Those people suck ass but given how pissed people are. Idk if venom fans will but I know people are just doing their own thing at this point on tamadachi life.

- while Eddie stans might drop the book I deadass do not know if Venom can carry this with or without Eddie. KiB was a solid ending point. Even *with* Eddie fans (which is why I suspect you moved him to spider-man)

- I spend a *lot* of time around people wearing superhero gear and while I see a lot of people wearing Venom gear its from the early days of villainy and its gonna take awhile to flood the market with Venomj.

- "well we can flood the market with MJ". While getting dogwalked by DC, flagship titles like moon knight are mourned, and Midnight is coming down the pike. If y'all do that I will tip my hat and bow man. People will bend over backwards for Spider-Man. Venom is like Vader. He's more appealing big and sharp and scary.

- congrats on the gooner statues nobody can afford now tho because almost all of us are poor.

- congrats on killing asexual/queer relationships tho. Unless MJ queer now???? 👀🫠😈 nah. Nah I really do see a slow burn family in the making that'll bring her and Peter back together like how Paul and MJ had their fake kids.

- still removed a major source of representation for a lot of people Mr. Ewing. Be cool if there was an alternative for those of us who would like more variety than mystique and her wife and Wiccan and Hulkling. Who do I write to about how something that made me feel seen and comforted is now gone? Msybe you can bring back Hercules?
