im aware my tongue is white... I scrape it everyday I dont know how to fix it 🫥
This is a bit of a deeper discussion but I’d like to hear others thoughts and experiences on this topic. Anyone in this forum is probably here because they struggle with TS (kinda weird if you’re not - but do you lol) I want to know how many people began struggling with stones/noticed them after one or multiple illnesses (most likely strep throat)? Or did you never have any throat related illnesses and they just came out of nowhere? How many people noticed recurring strep throat? Now the big question is how many people started dealing with other illnesses, symptoms issues regarding various other parts of the body around the same time? What about brain fog, fatigue, neurological symptoms, TMJ, tinnitus, joint inflammation? …… the list goes on.
I’m asking this because I think I’m now just connecting some strange symptoms I’ve been struggling with for a few years to these damn tonsils. I had strep at least once a year for 6 years and then finally one year I had it twice, back to back, and it was the worst id ever had. Took two rounds of antibiotics to knock it out the second time . After that my tonsils were never the same; I’m assuming from all the swelling and inflammation that lead to scarring essentially. They were larger and asymmetrical and not long after that I started noticing the stones. Then I experienced the unexplained symptoms that remain unexplained to this day.
I believe there is a low grade infection still lingering there which is essentially chronic tonsillitis. An infection that can’t be reached because of the biofilms etc. and in an area that is basically connected to your ears, close to your brain and vagus nerve. Either a lingering low grade infection or the constant stones causing the tonsils to be agitated and fighting nonstop, and therefore cytokines (look it up) in the body constantly. This would cause symptoms that you’d (or doctors even) would never connect to a tonsil issue. I’m convinced that this is not some insignificant inconvenience that poses no threat. I haven’t had strep since (I believe the source was the person I was dating at the time; possible carrier?) and no throat related illnesses but the stones and other issues have taken center stage.
I decided to look up some studies and it didn’t take long to have my suspicions validated. I’ll put the link here for one article I found : https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12875394/
Ok- sorry for the long rant but I think this is huge and this issue is affecting all of us in more ways than the medical system even knows . I don’t think it’s just a nasty inconvenience with no major effects on the body. Please share your stories/experiences and maybe we can all start feeling better 🙏🏼
Hi everyone! I’ve been dealing with tonsil stones / that weird tonsil breath for a while and one thing I genuinely did not understand until recently is that mouthwash basically just goes around your mouth… it doesnt really get into those little crypts where the stones actually sit. Once I realized that I was like ok??? then what am I even supposed to use 😭 I started looking into stuff that could actually reach back there and the only thing that really made sense to me was a spray because you can actually aim it directly at the tonsils instead of just swishing something around and hoping it gets in there. I found quite a few different ones while looking and this is the one I ended up going with: https://useriverwell.com/products/tonsil-stone-cleaner I mainly picked it because of the long angled nozzle + the fact that its alcohol free because I really didnt want something burning/drying out my throat. I’ve been using it morning and night and the biggest thing for me is just how much more logical this feels than mouthwash lol. You literally spray where the problem is instead of cleaning everything EXCEPT that area. Obviously I’m not saying everybody with bad breath has tonsil stones or that one thing is magically gonna work for everyone, but if you can literally see stones in your crypts / get that gross taste from the back of your throat then I feel like using something that can actually reach there makes sooo much more sense. Anyway just wanted to share because I spent way too long thinking stronger mouthwash was the answer 😭
So I read that developing tonsil stones 3x a year is considered a nuisance for some people and this makes them a candidate for procedures to reduce them…I remove tonsil stones once a month.
What exactly is the average timeframe here that “normal” people get tonsil stones? Am I that much of a freak? Someone educate me
Hello,
Every morning, I irrigate my crypts using a syringe filled with a 0.5% hydrogen peroxide solution.
Of course – and I’d like to emphasise this – you must absolutely avoid swallowing this solution.
In my case, this solution helps me get rid of both the bacterial biofilm and, consequently, the calculi.
Whereas plain water alone was not effective at removing this biofilm.
However, does the daily use of hydrogen peroxide (albeit diluted to 0.5%) pose any long-term risks ? Should I take days off from using it altogether ?
If so, do you know of any less harsh but still effective alternatives?
Thank you very much.
I brush, floss, and use mouth wash twice a day (as well as gargling the mouth wash). I also drink lots of water throughout the day.
All of mine a pretty tiny, but I have so many and I just don’t understand why. Like I feel like I have pretty good mouth hygiene and stuff.
I just got into removing my own stones. I’ve never realized I had them until onetime I put my finger back there and sniffed it. lol then I looked into it and learned about tonsil stones. I’ve tried doing the q tip method but it’s so hard for me. This is what works. I know it’s not ideal but for now it’ll do.
I’ve had tonsil stones for years and cannot find a reliable solution to get rid or prevent them. Any help of any mouthwash brands that specifically help to reduce tonsil stones as I can’t find any??
There’s this angle I can lay at where my tonsil stones loosen themselves, I guess? This is the second stone I’ve gotten out using this “method” but I can’t seem to figure out the correct angle on the fly. Just a happy accident, I guess. Even weirder because I didn’t feel anything back there before lying down.
sorry for the angle is a little hard to record while doing this
I have been struggling with tonsil stones for years now. Lately I've been trying everything. I brush twice a day, floss at least once a day, I bought metal tongue scraper, I gargle salt water, oral probiotics, I even got my IUD removed in case it was making the situation worse. Just started vitamin D and k supplement last week. I live in Canada and work in the dark so my exposure to vitamin d is minimal. Still having stones that I can push out almost daily.
For those of you who say vitamin D helped, how long did it take to help? I will say my one tonsil used to look a lot bigger and lately has started to look smaller and smaller? Is it possible I just had a large build up of stones and I'm slowly getting them out? Often times I won't see any stones but will kind of push on my tonsils a bit and then stones will appear despite there not looking like I had any 5 mins earlier? I want to believe maybe Im just removing older and older stones but I don't really know that that's likely.
Basically since I had COVID Ive been struggling with the stones badly. I had tonsillitis alot as a kid which I think has made my anatomy ideal for them.
I increased my fiber intake
Increased my vitamin d intake
Floss daily brush twice
Tongue scrap daily
Limit whole milk based dairy even creamers that are dairy based
When my lining is all lactosed out I get the most stones
Once you take care of your gut lining your mouth will be smoother and less susceptible to stones/ bad breath
But you have to be on top of your oral hygiene
I used to think I needed a tonsilictomy but since changing my diet everything has improved significantly!!!
For the past 5 days or so, every time I swallowed or likewise, I’ve been have a foreign body feeling in the back of my throat, along with a whiff of that tonsil stones stank (we all know it).
For days I was trying to scrape and push with no avail where I was thinking maybe they were impacted or something. To the point I really scraped up my tonsils with a tooth brush cause my fingers and Q-tips were not doing it.
Then I looked up a tutorial and found a good technique. And what I got out was Oh. My. God. Holy fucking shit. They just kept coming out, one after another. I have always had tonsil stones but at max it would be like 1-3 little nuggets that came out.
I have so much relief not smelling that stank anymore or feeling those little fuckers back there. This literally caused me so much annoyance I went and bought a water flosser with a tonsil cleaning function from a popular dentist online. (Not sure if saying the name would count as advertisement or if that’s a rule in this sub). I’ve always planned to get it but never taken the leap cause it’s spendy, but I finally bit the bullet. It has yet to arrive, but never again will I go through that and have that many in my mouth. I’m sure my breath absolutely STUNK cause it bugged ME even!
P.S sorry I didn’t get a recording I was too busy desperately trying to get them out to think of recording it.
this must be an older one that was hiding from me. usually they aren’t this dark
In the last two ish weeks, my husband has managed to remove two tonsil stones for me by me performing oral. Never happened before so definitely interesting and honestly we both laughed. Who knew?!
throat has been feeling kind of blocked and swallowing painful the last 3 days and I dismissed it as a usual sore throat but I looked with my camera and I saw that white mass 😭😭 what is it do I need to go to a doctor for it or will gargling with salt water and staying hydrated help?? 😭😭😭
At first I thought maybe tonsil stones but after looking thise up i realized those are white and rigid. Anyone have any idea. If you zoom in you can see all the lines.
I feel a deep and huge space there. I wonder how many stones were sitting inside and for how long. I got it done yesterday. I can't even clean my tongue.
