2005 Sequoia 278,154 miles

Hi!! Sitting here in ol’ Goldie, contemplating the future of our relationship.
I when I purchased her 8 years ago in Colorado, she had 188,000 miles. Within a couple months I replaced her timing belt (2nd timing belt obviously)
The vehicle has been solid and reliable and was definitely what I needed living in the mountains.
I now live in PA. Been 4 years now and the repairs are becoming more often. I’m spending at least $1000/year at this point. Most recently, O2 sensor, I had to install a system bypass (per advice from this group, thanks!!). Now bank 1&2 running rich (taking to my mechanic next week). Aaaaand approaching the timing belt replacement again.
She’s not the prettiest but also not tooo beat up. Her rear fender flairs are gone, clear coat pealing off of hood, rear door handle has been a rope for years now after replacing it numerous times.
My mechanic thinks I should keep her as long as I can due to the fact that she is rust free and in these parts that’s a big deal. My hubs agrees with mechanic.
What are some of your experiences with your old ass Seqouia?? These vehicles are so hard to let go of!! She has literally been my ride or die!! But the “We Buy Any Used Car” guy said he wouldn’t even give me $1000 for her 😜 so how do I justify continuing to put thousands in???? Help me out here Toyota lovers. We are not rich people and cannot easily take on a car note right now so I’m torn.

** Help needed! ** UP of Michigan

Help needed! Bit of a long shot here, but not many options on a Sunday.

Stuck on the side of the highway in the UP of Michigan about 30 miles west of the bridge, ~30 mins south of newberry. Right front wheel bearing failed. I have the tools with me to remove the spindle entirely & can swap it out.

Is there anyone remotely close to here with either a part out Sequoia that has the front right knuckle / spindle, or a press setup? Everywhere is closed (Sunday).

2012 platinum hatch filling with water….

It’s been raining like crazy where I am and I went to do a grocery run and when I opened the hatch to load everything in, the hatch lifter things were struggling and then water started pouring out of the hatch latch. It looks like the trim on the corners of the back windows is coming up. I can see down into it and there’s a hole that goes into the hatch. Is this a thing that happens? Taking to my mechanic next week.

Finally got new tires for the tree

Love this darn thing so much, we call her "big ol' girl" never been so happy with a vehicle. She has 252k on her. I bought her with 235k on her. She runs so smooth. Just went and got Nokian NAT Outpost tires for her and what a difference. Thanks to everyone on this forum y'all have helped me so much on knowledge and advice to keep her going down the road.

04 Sequoia Lift Question

Recently bought an 04 sequoia 4x4 and plan to lift it 2 inches and throw some 33s on it. What does everyone run suspension wise and what do you guys use your sequoias for? I plan to use it to overland in NorCal with the family so no super crazy trails but I do plan to use it to go offroading/camping 1-2 times a month.​ Thanks!

Finally finished the interior painting.

Getting ready to build a platform for next summer so I've been in the process of painting the pillars and certain panels black, to help keep it dark with the window covers I'll be purchasing. Finally got to the rear pieces last week and the tailgate trim as well. Just did everything above the center line, as the platform and drawers will essentially be covering the entire bottom half. Did the button panels and speakers a while back but I like how it contrasts with the grays. All of it is just Plasti-Dip. The whole front of the vehicle was done about a year and a half ago when I first got it (A pillars, lower kick panels and full B pillars, with all the bottom door sill trim as well), I've done a few touchups but for the most part it's really held up, through multiple camping trips and using it for work everyday.

There would also be zero benefit to doing the bottom portions as my Aussies would just scratch it to all hell when they get excited. I know this won't be some people's cup of tea but I'm happy with how it turned out.

Noise/whine from my 2nd Gen

Here’s my 2011 5.7L Sequoia. 165k on her.

Getting a whine that is RPM dependent. It’ll get louder in park while revving the motor. Can’t pin it down but it seems to be getting worse.

Ideas are welcome. Also looking for any other advice to keep her going a long time.

Check your Trans-to-Frame ground straps!

The trans-to-frame braid on these 08-22 Sequoia’s rots and typically splits in two. Mine (16 Tundra) was green end to end and still hanging on but definitely on borrowed time. It sits up by the transmission so it’s easy to miss.

A bad one can show up as a slow crank or a transmission speed-sensor code among other random electrical gremlins before it actually lets go. Fixed mine thankfully before winter, simple as an extension and a 10mm. First photo is the old one next to what went on. Second is it bolted up.

Absolutely worth an extra 5 minutes to look for before winter next time you’re changing the oil.
