2026 Sequoia with RuffLand Large Kennels

I did a lot of looking around online to find decent kennels that would be big enough for our dogs but also fit in the shorter hybrid cargo area without taking out the 3rd row seats. Saw that my local Sportsman’s Warehouse had RuffLand kennels in stock and went to check them out. The employees were awesome and not only let me test fit with one of my dogs in the store, but brought two out to the curb for me to test fit in the Sequoia too!

The Intermediates would have fit easily, but were a little cramped for my pups (1yo 50ish lb Goldens at roughly 23” tall @ shoulders and about 32” long from rump to nose), so we tried the Large size and they juuuuuuuuust fit. It was a bit of a hassle getting the kennels in from the second row passenger door but once they were in place, the tension held them so well I barely needed to tie them down. Pups are safe, have room, and are more calm now than when they were riding in an open cargo area.

I wanted to share in case anyone else is looking to do the same. Depending on your needs you can get the Large to fit, and that’s what I went with, but the Intermediates would be easier to handle with a little extra packing space around them. Hope this helps someone out there looking at similar options!

Proud to officially join the Toyota Sequoia family!

TLDR: Last night I took delivery of this 2018 TRD Sport 4x4 with 129k miles—two owners, meticulously dealer-maintained with full records, purchased from a family in Utah, mechanically sound, and the only has the minor cosmetic wear you’d expect from a 6 year old family vehicle. It was a $32,500 private party sale—no dealer fees or sales tax!

Full Story: My search for a 2nd gen Sequoia started nearly 2 years ago. My trusty 2008 Subaru Forester just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I needed more power, cargo space, the safety features that became standard around 2018, and something a tad bit more modern (ironically, not something the 2nd gen is necessarily known for). I didn’t want luxury or tech—I just wanted a reliable workhorse.

I eventually narrowed my search to the TRD Sport, but finding the right one at the right price was tough. I quickly realized I would have to expand my search nationwide. I spent months digging through overpriced dealership listings, and even considered the 5th gen 4Runner at one point. I test drove both, and after the third time behind the wheel of the Sequoia, my mind was made up.

So when this one popped up in a random Facebook Marketplace notification, my gut feeling was that this was the one. I offered to send the seller a deposit to take it off the market and I bought it sight unseen. Everything lined up—the condition, the mileage, the price, and a seller who was very transparent and made the whole out-of-state purchase process simple.

My wife and I have been Toyota people for a long time. She still daily drives the 2005 RAV4 Limited we bought back in college at 60k miles. I work from home, so I’ll only put just a few thousand miles a year on the Sequoia for now—that’ll probably change as we start our family in the next few years and it becomes our family hauler. It feels good to finally own own a Sequoia. Looking forward to the next 100k+ miles!

VSC/TRAC issues post-lift?

Just got a 1.75” suspension lift installed on my 2001 Sequoia along with new front ball joints, and immediately afterward I started having VSC/TRAC issues.

Symptoms:
- VSC/TRAC light flashes around 5–10 mph. The truck cuts throttle unless I push hard through it, when I do, I hear/feel a click and a lunge. Light turns off and then the truck drives normally.
- Occasionally the ABS system applies briefly at very low speed while driving straight, and when I’m already braking (think at a red light). It’s the same function of when I take a highway curve too fast, the truck brakes for me.
- Alignment has already been done afterward (attached alignment sheet in comments), they weren’t able to do caster.

The truck otherwise drives fine mechanically. No weird drivetrain noises, no major pulling, etc.
The lift shop thinks it may be related to the steering angle sensor / zero-point calibration and suggested taking it to Toyota. Their computer wasn’t able to reset it. I also checked visible ABS/wheel speed sensor wiring and didn’t notice anything obviously broken or stretched.

Has anyone had this happen after a mild lift on a Gen 1 Sequoia/Tundra?

Did it end up being:
- steering angle sensor calibration?
- yaw sensor?
- wheel speed sensor wire?

Would appreciate any advice before I take it to the dealer. Hoping to get this resolved ASAP. Pics from after and before lift.

Where did this part come from??

Was laying on the driver side floor board. Can’t seem to see where it might have come from. Thx

Roof rack on new sequioa

Anyone add a roof rack to their sequoia with the panoramic sunroof? I’d like the option but don’t want to block the view. I can’t seem to find images online of how it looks from inside the car.
Anyone out there have this and regret it? Or love it?

Which Second Gen

Okay Sequoia lovers, we are hunting for a new family car, we are wanting an earlier second gen that we can pay cash for to have no car payment. That being said which trim would you go for? SR5, Limited, Platinum? I don’t really need all the fancy bells and whistles but tv screens may be nice. Additionally how many miles would make you weary of getting an earlier second gen? I would love to be lucky enough to find one with low miles and a lower price but I doubt that will happen. Thanks!

Factory Frame holes? 01 Sequoia

What are these divots/holes in my frame? There’s a few, they are symmetrical on both sides of the vehicle so I assume they are drain holes or something?

I live out west so rust isn’t really an issue.

1st gen sequoia before and after lift

OME 2" lift kit from 1st gen offroad. The kit and new wheels make the ride pretty stiff, but I love the look and much better handling than before!

Wheels are Toyota SEMA TRD wheels (matte finish) 17x7.
Tires are Toyo Open Country ATIII 255/80/17.

Timing belt broke. How do I know if its toast?

My 2001 sequoia with 383k miles broke its timing.

Im 21 and had this suv since I was 10yrs old. So far this is its 2nd time breaking a belt. Broke a belt about 7 years ago according to my father who did the previous job. Other than buying a bore scope to check the valves. How can I be sure the motor is no good? Don't want to spend the money and labor just to find out

After she jumped. She would crank. Of course sounded like no compression

2005 Sequoia parking brake light issue

I've had an intermittent issue with my parking brake light illuminating on my dash after driving with seemingly no rhyme or reason. I've been dismissing it but today my trac off and vsc trac came on with the parking brake light. 2005 2wd sr5 limited. 2 weeks ago I put bilstein 6112s on the front at only a 1" lift since im waiting for the rest of the suspension parts I've ordered. However I've been having the parking brake issue every now and then before I changed suspension. The light goes off after restarting the car and there is no check engine light. I dont have a obd reader to check for codes but was curious if anyone else has had this issue and may have some ideas of where to look.

Considering selling our 21’ for a Lexus GX460

Is this a bad idea? Current 21’ has about 81k miles and runs fantastic. We originally bought it for all the space but I find I don’t need ALL that space but it might be something we need if we add a third child. Sometimes the GX460 really catches my eye and I wonder if I might want something less rugged and a tad more luxurious being that we’re not off-roading type people and really just lug around kids and dogs. I’m seeing that the TRD Pro in this year is getting hard to find especially in this color so part of me feels like I’d regret getting rid of her.

Sequoia Lemon 🍋

I’m not sure if it’s just my luck or if it was neglect from the previous owner, but in the last 6 months my ‘07 has been an absolute lemon in terms of major failure points. Me and my wife bought it 3 years ago @201k miles and currently has about 250k. About a year ago, the water pump gasket failed and had a tremendous leak and had to get that repaired. 3 months ago we had the lower ball joint fail causing other major suspension damage including a destroyed wheel bearing. And just today the accessory drive belt tensioner failed and the fan clutch ate the belt. Idk if it’s just neglect from previous ownership or bad luck. But that’s how my sequoia is currently acting right now 🙃

GX460/4Runner brake upgrade

If you are still on the fence on this upgrade, DO IT! The hype is real. I have a 2005 limited with 240k that I use to tow a 17ft boat with regularly and the brakes has always been lacking, the weakest link. Braking suddenly or even slowing down always felt like you had to give yourself plenty of room; it felt this way even when not towing which was frustrating. I did the upgrade this weekend and WOW the confidence this thing have now stopping is 10 folds. when people comment that this is how Toyota should’ve made the brakes to begin with they were not lying. 100% recommend. Feeling safer on the road. After the initial install and test drive, the brake pedal felt super soft so I bled the lines for a second time and they are rock solid now. A lot of air was removed the second time. Prior to the second bleed I also drove it a couple of miles on a dirt road and slammed on the brakes a bunch to engage the ABS module. I believe alot of air that was trapped was removed after this was done.

My goal was a budget friendly setup and so I’ve been monitoring rockauto for deals and they had an inventory closeout deal and I had to jump on it. I know folks are gonna hate on the brand choices but at this price it was a no brainer to give it a shot.

All from rockauto - closeout prices except for the pads
Cardone 13WA calipers: $36.79ea
Durago rotors: $23.79ea
Powerstop pads:$45.79
Machining $40ea (local)
All in was about $275 with the shipping

Extremely happy, especially at the price point of replacing calipers and rotors for stock ones.

2018 TRD Sport vs 2020 TRD Pro

Looking at both of these. 2018 TRD Pro has 100k miles compared to the 130k miles on the Pro. Is it worth paying $10k more for the Pro? It is in better condition, but the mileage scares me a bit. Detailed carfax except for the 80k-130k period. The current dealership did a good amount of work on it upon receipt. I wouldn't be doing anything crazy with it, just 25ish miles daily, plus towing and any road trips. Upgrading from a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
