Essential X-Men Films?
So I’m looking to show the X-Men series to my sons (old enough to handle mature material) in preparation for Doomsday and I want the community’s opinion on the essential viewing order. I’m not going to show them the films that I find awful or unconnected the main storyline.
Here’s what I have definitely so far:
X-Men: First Class
X-Men
X2
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Deadpool
Deadpool 2
Logan
Deadpool and Wolverine
I’m on the fence about three of the films and I’d like your advice on their necessity for the overall story. They are: The Last Stand, Apocalypse, and The Wolverine.
The Last Stand is out initially because it’s bad and has some continuity issues like Prof X dying (and then being there again in DoFP). However, I was wondering if you think the plot points make it worth the watch? Kelsey Grammar’s Beast is a draw for sure. I feel like the flashback scenes of Jean’s death suffice in DoFP, but what are your thoughts?
The Wolverine is a decent movie for sure, but does it offer much to the overall story? Other than the last scene at the end?
Apocalypse was certainly a mess but it does have: cool Weapon X scenes, fulfillment of the Apocalypse tease at the end of DoFP, was visually great looking, gives the X-Men a post DoFP adventure, introduces Essex Corp, and was directed by Singer (while he was present or whatever the hell was going on with him). I know it has other issues including continuity concerns.
Please don’t recommend Dark Phoenix, New Mutants, or Origins. They are awful and offer nothing to the overall story and they won’t make the cut no matter what. So if your only comment is “just watch them all” then there’s little need to reply.
So what, if any, should I add to the list?
