Movie set design

To anyone who has ever designed a movie/ film set before, how did you know you have the skills for it? I have recently been in contact with someone who needs to form a team for their short film. I told them that I study architecture and I am very interested in designing spaces and have always been on the creative side. Though, I feel like I wasn’t able to sell her my pitch. She asked about my style and I couldn’t really capture it for her I feel like a I said a whole lot of bs😭 though, I really am interested in such a field and since i study architecture, I already have a solid background for it. I have always designed my room myself and always get compliments on the way I organise spaces or just anything. While watching movies I’m always focusing on how the movie set is done. There is one I really love and genuinely feel like sparked this interest of mine even more. The set of the series Adolescence. Other than the amazing acting and filming, the set really helped with the emotions of the film. Especially the main characters bedroom. Anyway, how do you guys know that you have what it takes? How do you know that ur creative enough for it? Do you usually have a team for such a thing or is it just you? And one last thing, where did you start? If the girl contacts me again, I would like to be ready to participate in it and for her to take a chance on me knowing that I can do it. What can I do to improve myself right now in this field? Lmk!!
