Movie set design

To anyone who has ever designed a movie/ film set before, how did you know you have the skills for it? I have recently been in contact with someone who needs to form a team for their short film. I told them that I study architecture and I am very interested in designing spaces and have always been on the creative side. Though, I feel like I wasn’t able to sell her my pitch. She asked about my style and I couldn’t really capture it for her I feel like a I said a whole lot of bs😭 though, I really am interested in such a field and since i study architecture, I already have a solid background for it. I have always designed my room myself and always get compliments on the way I organise spaces or just anything. While watching movies I’m always focusing on how the movie set is done. There is one I really love and genuinely feel like sparked this interest of mine even more. The set of the series Adolescence. Other than the amazing acting and filming, the set really helped with the emotions of the film. Especially the main characters bedroom. Anyway, how do you guys know that you have what it takes? How do you know that ur creative enough for it? Do you usually have a team for such a thing or is it just you? And one last thing, where did you start? If the girl contacts me again, I would like to be ready to participate in it and for her to take a chance on me knowing that I can do it. What can I do to improve myself right now in this field? Lmk!!

Networking in architecture

I’m entering my third year of arch and the biggest advice I have seen here and on a lot of social media platforms is to network but I don’t get it who am I networking with?😭 as in like make friends with my classmates? The thing is about architecture is I have noticed no one in your major will want what’s good for you. Sadly in architecture, professors tend to compare you with other students a lot and I don’t know if they realize that this built a up insecurity within students that they end up secretly hating each other. What I don’t get here is how am I meant to “network” with my classmates in such conditions? In any other scenario like my part time job for example it really is easy to built a lot of connections as the competition is little to none plus most of my connections in my part time job come from costumers. But, I haven’t met anyone in the architecture field yet so the networking I’m making in my job isn’t really related to arch. My question is any past students of arch school or currently in arch school who are u guys networking with and how can i network in a way that might land me a job in the future?

Part time job while also perusing my degree

I got a retail job this summer and it has been going well so far. It’s not a very demanding job and I do 4/3 hours 3 times a week during the summer. During university days however, I will be working only 2 days on the weekend. While this sounds manageable, I am worried that this will affect my degree as it is a demanding and tiring degree. I study architecture lol. I also live in my unis accommodation as it is an hour and a half away from my hometown. Still, I always take the bus back home every weekend. So, if I commute back home on Thursday I will have Thursday night and Sunday to finish any university work if I still have some left that I didn’t finish during the weekdays . Still, I am anxious that this is going to be very bad for my degree as architecture is a very unexpected degree. Random very close deadlines, site visits, and very high expectations to always be done with your work ahead of time. Just incase you’re wondering why I even picked up this job, let me explain. I think it’s very important to know how to deal with different costumers as an architect. Different demands, different personalities, etc. these are skills that you will only learn after dealing with customers for a period of time. I am a-bit socially awkward so I lack greatly in that Field. I also lack in time management so I thought a job will definitely get those two issues of mine straight. Do you guys think I am digging myself in a hole by doing this? Or is this actually doable and I’m just being a scaredy cat lol
