Episode 7A (Lum's fantasy after Ataru gives her the ribbon)
Hello! I just wanted to share with everyone my final project from one of my classes!
this was made using Adobe Illustrator!
I am very happy with how it turned out (even if Ataru does look a bit odd)
if anyone wants the twitter link to this illustration, I might post it in a reply! if I'm allowed to of course!
This is just what I came up an idea of that there are worst people in tomobiki than Ataru Like the Perversion or the selfishness what do you guys think
This was a practice sketch of Lum! She’s great for anatomy practice since she’s not really wearing anything
Working on drawing arms and hands! :D
Yes, I know, this is a bit of a duplicate of Ok_Examination8810's post about a remake of the sixth movie, but I'd like to hear your ideas for a 12, 22, or 40-minute episode or OVA, which doesn't have the same constraints as a 90-minute movie.
Would you simply take a chapter from the manga that hasn't been adapted into animation yet, or would it be an original creation ?
After months of not posting (at least drawings), I come back with a drawing of genderbent Ataru to celebrate the arrival of summer ! I love her so much she’s so cute, hope you like it guys ! <3 (ignore the background I’m horrible at that lmao)
Drawing with pencils. With Cherry, Lum and Ran.
The major drawback from 2023 and 2024 at that time, I was not aware that Urusei Yatsura had a lot of episodes, made only from 2 studios, but also more.
Back in 2023, I first only watched a lot of the Pierrot episodes, and they were of course simplistic story-telling, and the advent of Mamoru Oshii was the main reason why I really loved only the Pierrot era, even before Ghost in the Shell and Angel's Egg as well as the Jin Roe the Wolf Brigade and the Red Spectacles was a thing.
During summer of that year, I did try to watch the Deen episodes, but the major drawback was that I was not very fond of the artstyle or the story conceptions that were part of the Urusei Yatsura franchise, but only in the Deen era, and at that time I even watched Ranma 1/2, but that anime franchise was one I got used to with.
The only reason why I watched a lot more of Ranma 1/2 than Urusei Yatsura in terms of Deen episodes, was mainly because that it was not dubbed with main exceptions from Urusei Yatsura movie 3 and 4, but I was not fond of the awfully big design changes to the characters. I felt like that I was not paying so much attention to the later episodes of Urusei Yatsura, that maybe the Deen era was not as good as the Pierrot episodes, mainly due to complexity overshadowing how simple it was to see how rounded the characters back then in the earlier part of the original series.
Now, since January 2025, I first started watching the Deen episodes properly, with 107 being the major game changer, to mind change about what my perception about the Deen era of Urusei Yatsura was like.
Expectations from 2023 when watching the show in the Deen era: (APRIL 1984 to MARCH 1986)
Somewhat boring stories (some of them include the Kitsune episodes)
The designs were somewhat too complex to understand why they have been redesigned as I hated them at first
Reality check, the Deen episodes were actually even more engagingly funny to watch from my opinion sake, and I have to say that the Deen era of Urusei Yatsura has physically changed my life a lot about the show itself, and yes there were some great gems like episode 107, 157, and 194. I tell you what, Deen really shows how much high detail and better pacing of the animation was sick as hell, in an excellent mannerism.
The other fascinating appreciation I can tell you about why Studio Deen helped me to engage with that part of Urusei Yatsura was definitely the character personality consistency, where Lum and Ataru have somewhat solidified their personality, at the same time, there is a dynamic of personality changes surrounding the characters, with Lum being slightly still aggressive, but still feels somewhat affectionate towards her darling, while Ataru goes through episodes of being a real tough nut idiotic buddy boy, who still leches around with other girls that Lum still hounds at him for doing so persistently, but yeah the notable change I have noticed is that I loved the new art style as it gave the characters a whole lot more dynamic within the show.
Though I don't mind the Deen era now as it is with the Pierrot episodes, I still have few issues with characters like Asuka, who I seem to say that is worse than the Kitsune, just because maybe she was not gaven that much attention to other characters in the show, but opinion wise, attack me for saying so, go right ahead.
Similarity wise, both Pierrot and Deen may seem to have the same frame rate position, but notably the difference is the amount of attention to detail and the character dynamics surrounding in the show, as well as having to explore more stuff I didn't touch back in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
Speaking of being similar, Takefumi Hayashi and Yuji Moriyama are like the two I dealt with, since they were working with both studios at the time Urusei Yatsura ceded towards the Deen era, as I felt like maybe it was something to do with Mamoru Oshii not being very happy about the franchise, as he wanted to do something a lot more passionate for himself of what he really felt like at that time during the course of like 1983-1984.
I recently bought this book for my collection, as you can see it says volume "1", but I could not find the next volumes. Do you know what happened with them? The image is not mine, it helps to illustrate what book I'm referring to
Lum art before sleep goodnight gang
Yes, the art style was heavily inspired from the 5th movie if anyone asks lol
I'd like to share an interesting shipping ranking of Urusei Yatsura by SilverBuller, especially the arguments presented. Rankings divided into Top Shippings (who he ships with the character), Ok Shippings (not people he ships with the character, but who he wouldn’t mind), and Low Shippings (people he do not ships with the character). Please note that the rankings and comments you'll read below are his, not mine.
Warning : This will include spoilers. Anyway, let's begin :
TOP SHIPPINGS
#1) Lum Invader – >!Ok, so absolutely no one should be surprised to see Lum as number one. Her relationship with Ataru is as funny as it is adorable. After a misunderstanding where she thinks Ataru wants to marry her, she accepts his, um, not-proposal. From there, she acts all lovey-dovey with him, constantly trying to get close and be affectionate with him while getting jealous of other girls and angry at his attempted playboy ways. I must admit, I find it a little peculiar that she agreed to marry him, and her feelings for him seem to develop out of nowhere. However, it seems like she may have developed those feelings over their days of playing “Tag” together. It seems her species respects and admires determination and resilience, and so Ataru’s refusal to give up and his eventual victory in their game may have been what caught her initial interest and be why she agreed to the marriage. From there, we see her feelings for him grow, and she affectionately refers to him as « Darling ». Things start out where she seems to mostly be acting the role of a dedicated wife, getting in his way of other girls and punishing him with her electric attacks when he flirts with them, but it becomes more and more apparent that she does or comes to actually love him, becoming more and more possessive of him and affectionate towards him and trying to earn his love and gain his interest. Ataru, for the most part, spends most his time being annoyed with her and trying to avoid her so he can go after other girls. This seems to be because he seems to like being the chaser, and so gains a bit of disinterest when Lum chases him instead. Since Lum is the one pursuing him though, he seems to assume that she will always be there, which is why he seems to ignore her and takes her for granted. And since he seems to know that she will never leave him, he feels comfortable pursuing other girls, even though he knows she’ll punish him for it. However, it’s during the instances when she’s gone or when he thinks he’s going to lose her that his real feelings for her start to show, causing him to become depressed and long for her, and then show much relief when she comes back or the risk to their relationship is gone. Truthfully, even though he doesn’t act like it and even pretends he doesn’t, he actually loves her as well. And in the original anime series, they even meet their future descendant, indicating that despite their problems, everything works out between them.!<
OK SHIPPINGS
#2) Shinobu Miyake – >!Aside from Lum, pretty much all the other girls that serve as Ataru’s love interests are basically rinse and repeats. Shinobu is a bit of an exception though. She and Ataru have a history where they’re old friends, and even implied to be sweethearts, if not actually having been in a relationship. Ataru’s playboy ways though seem to have ruined things between them, or at least caused a lot of problems in their relationship to the point where Shinobu broke up with him. She still harbored feelings for him though, as she agrees to marry him if he manages to catch Lum to end the invasion, which is what caused the whole misunderstanding between him and Lum, causing Shinobu to become jealous. And for a while, she continued to show jealousy, but as she befriends Lum and as more time passes, her interest and feelings for Ataru seem to fade and change, and the breaking point seems to be when she falls for Shuutarou and turns her interest to him. She’s also shown to have a bit of a shallow side though, where she goes based off looks, hence her preference of Shuutarou over Ataru. At this point though, Shinobu seems to have fallen into the role of just another girl Ataru pursues whenever he can. Initially, he had shown the most interest in her, the promise of getting to marry her being what enabled him to find the strength and determination to catch Lum. After he gets engaged to Lum though, for a while he tries to meet Shinobu, only to have Lum constantly get in the way. But just like with Shinobu, his feelings for her seem to fade now that he has Lum and her interests have moved elsewhere, and so she becomes just another girl her likes to flirt with.!<
#3) Oyuki – >!I know I said that Shinobu was the one exception to Ataru’s rinse and repeat love interests, but when we first meet Oyuki, there is one thing that causes her to stand out from the others, and that’s that she seems to return Ataru’s interest. When he pursues her, despite knowing that he’s engaged to Lum, and even though she’s good friends with Lum, she accepts his advances, and the two of them openly make out. It even seems like things would have gone even further between them had they not been interrupted. But even though Ataru pursues her along with the other girls, she doesn’t accept his advances anymore after this. She does seem to find him amusing though and likes him as a friend and doesn’t seem to mind his advances, which is more than can be said for the other girls he pursues, which is why she ranks higher than them. As for things on Ataru’s end, she doesn’t seem to stand out as anything special to him, she’s just another girl he’s attracted to and tries to flirt with.!<
LOW SHIPPINGS
#4) Benten – >!As I said before, from Benten on, they’re all just standard girls Ataru takes an interest in and regularly pursues, but there’s nothing that really makes one stand out from the other in Ataru’s eyes. As such, I ranked them more or less on character and their relationship with Ataru. For Benten, she ranks a little higher than the others because she’s Lum’s best friend and has a similar personality. However, she holds no interest in Ataru and seems to find his flirting with her annoying. She seems to tolerate his presence and is civil with him except for when he pursues her.!<
#5) Ryuunosuke Fujinami – >!When they first met, Ataru had no interest in Ryuunosuke, but that’s because he thought she was a boy. The moment he found out she was a girl though, she fell on his radar of girls to pursue, and he starts treating her like all the other girls he takes an interest in, flirting with her whenever possible. He uses the fact that she’s trying to become more girly to his advantage to try and get closer to her and flirt with her, but she doesn’t have any interest in him beyond friendship and what he’s willing to do for her to help her be more girly.!<
#6) Kurama – >!While Ataru took immediate interest in Kurama, she seemed to immediate hold him in contempt, looking down on him and his ways. She has a very shallow nature, dismissing him for his average looks while taking an instant interest in Shuutarou because of how attractive she finds him and wanting to mate with him. According to tradition, since she was awakened by Ataru’s kiss, she’s supposed to mate with him, but she absolutely refuses, wanting nothing to do with him. Despite her lack of interest and open disdain, Ataru continues to try and pursue her, and even becomes insistent that she follow her clan’s tradition of mating with him, only to be shot down by her. He still flirts with her any chance he gets though, but she’s ultimately nothing more than one of the many girls he’s interested in.!<
#7) Ryouko Mendou – >!Like all of the others, Ryouko is just one of the many girls Ataru is attracted to and pursues. But also just like them, she has no interest in him and finds his pursuit of her annoying. However, she’s a notorious prankster, and so uses his flirtatious behavior towards her to her advantage in order to pulls pranks, and so tolerates him for that purpose. She’s also completely in love with Tobimaro, and will use Ataru’s flirting towards her advantage in order to pursue Tobimaro as well. Ataru knows she’s in love with Tobimaro, but is still intent on trying to gain her interest, but she’s ultimately just another girl he’s attracted to.!<
#8) Sakura – >!For the most part, Sakura is just another girl Ataru is interested in who has no interest in him and finds his flirting annoying. Unlike the others though, things between them are taken a step further, where she doesn’t seem to like him at all and only tolerates him because she has to. Actually, she really seems to hate him, partly due to her having to deal with the spirits of misfortune he attracts. There’s also the fact that there’s a pretty big age gap between them and that she has a fiancé. And yet Ataru continues to make advances to her and suffer the consequences of doing so like all the others.!<
#9) Ran – >!I almost put Ran above Sakura, but her personality is what ended up putting her beneath her. She’s got a rather twisted and vindictive side to her, where she seeks to destroy Lum and all she cares about, and that includes things between her and Ataru. Her nature borders on indifference to almost cruel at times, where she shows no care as to what happens to Ataru as long as it furthers her goals. She’s also almost obsessively in love with Rei, and uses Ataru’s flirtatious behavior towards her to her advantage, even though she hates it when he pursues her.!<
#10) Elle de Rosenbach – >!Yeah, so no surprise to find Elle in last place. As a result of Ataru winning a game of shadow tag against her when they were kids, and according to her people’s customs, that makes them engaged, and so she returns for him several years later. And while Ataru is initially attracted to her just as he is every other pretty girl he meets, things go south pretty fast. Elle is one messed up person. She literally seeks to build a collection of men for her reverse-harem, and has actually collected 99,999 so far, freezing them and trapping them in a giant fridge, and she wanted to add Ataru to the mix. While Ataru was initially into her, when he finds out what she’s really like and what she plans, he wants nothing to do with her. So, yeah, for him to lose interest in a girl, one who is apparently known throughout the galaxy for her beauty, you know it’s bad.!<
A brand? Where I can get it? Anything will do. I've found it for sale before but only in an extra small. It's likely from the 2022 remake and no longer being made. I really want it new or used definitely only from Japan if I had to imagine. I want to say it's the brand graniph but not certain. Any help especially on where to get it in a medium/large would help alot. Thanks 💛🩵

First anime (1981-1986) - Episode 107 Dimensional Switch, Where's Darling !? (April 11, 1984)
I find it a shame that Ryunosuke will never find an opportunity to finally perfect her femininity, which her father tried to take away from her, and thus fulfill herself. Admittedly, Onsen Mark did try to help her in episode 90/chapter 152, but it ended in a lamentable failure, despite his efforts.
