Crypto Transaction - Never Again

I had a balance in my Venmo account. Decided to buy crypto needed for a transaction. Bought SOL, purchased crypto immediately shows up in Venmo - as it should. Next, I try transferring into someone's Wallet.

Doesn't work.

Into my wallet - doesn't work.

I get the infamous "There is a problem" error. I chat with customer support - the most unproductive support chat ever. Their response is essentially the same response as shown in the error message with a few added words thrown in. Now a day later the problem persists.

Customer support says today, 'we’re working on it., the engineers are aware". They cannot provide any information as to the problem - whether it’s isolated to my account or a system wide issue and they have no means of providing a way to escalate.

Crypto is volatile which is why I only buy what I’m going to immediately use. Venmo now holds it captive with no information as to when it will be resolved.

Lesson learned. Beware. Has this happened to you?

Does anyone have a contact email for support?

I live abroad and can't access the app or make an international phone call to access customer support. I'm not having much luck finding an email to contact, does anyone happen to know one where I may get a response?

Got "Your payment can't be completed right now" today...

I was trying to pay someone from my Venmo balance, which has sufficient funds for the payment. I got the message in subject and I have no clue how to fix it. I made several attempts today, all with the same result. I'm verified.

Any ideas?

Venmo disputed the wrong charge…. Depop Account Suspended…. Now what?

Venmo disputed a valid Depop charge I explicitly told them NOT to dispute, now my Depop account is closed. On July seventeenth I called Venmo to report a bunch of fraudulent charges, mostly FACEBK with long codes, plus some Google Play Books and Finestro. During that call I specifically told the agent my Poshmark, Depop, and Monopoly Go charges were legitimate and I was NOT disputing them. They refunded the fraud but somehow also flagged and disputed my valid twelve-dollar-and-seven-cent
Depop purchase from June twenty-second.

That caused Depop to close my account for suspected fraud. When I called my bank, BMO, they had no record of any dispute. Depop didn't even tell me it was my Venmo debit card that reported it, not my bank. I only found out today when I saw the twelve-oh-seven credit in my Venmo account. Venmo opened an inquiry with reference two-seven-nine-eight-three-four-six-nine-four but said they might not be able to fix it since it already went through. Has anyone dealt with something like this? Any advice on getting this reversed and my Depop account restored?
I have the call recording reference and everything.

Buyer claimed dispute via family & friends transactions

I sold an electric item on Facebook Marketplace. The buyer went home. Didn’t message me until a week later asking for 50% refund back because of a cosmetic issue, but the item was fully functional and working properly at the time of the sale.

I clearly told the buyer that there would be no returns. After purchasing it, they opened up the entire unit exposing the wiring, which means there’s now a possibility that they could have damaged or altered it themselves.

They then went straight to Venmo to dispute the payment. Venmo sent me a warning because I used a personal account to sell an item instead of processing the transaction as a purchase. However, the buyer was the one who marked the payment as a payment between friends rather than as a purchase.

Is there still a chance the buyer could get their money back even though they marked the transaction as a payment between friends? It doesn’t seem fair for them to receive a refund after agreeing to the condition of the item, receiving a discount, and then opening up and potentially altering the unit.

Chargeback Scam Advice Needed!

On November 20 of last year (2025); I listed an iPhone for sale on FB Marketplace; thinking I had all my safety bases covered since I am a female, I met the buyer at my local police station. Buyer agreed to a cash sale before driving 1 1/2 hours to get the phone. Upon arrival; they told me they did not have cash and would need to go the ATM (🚩#1). He then asked if I had Venmo to which I reluctantly replied “yes”. Naive me was thinking; I won’t hand him the phone till I receive the money- big mistake! He immediately discovered something he didn’t like about the phone and by this point my intuition was already in overdrive and I was ready to leave the situation so I quickly refunded him the $800 (exactly 3 minutes after he sent it) and left! Naive me thought everything was ok and I didn’t think much of it till I got an email on December 20, informing me that a case had been opened due to a chargeback dispute- I thought the email was a scam 🙄! Buyer stated they “never received the item”???!!! Of course they didn’t- they also didn’t pay for said item!!???

Venmo told me to send all proof on my end and they would investigate but the chargeback could stick; as it was the buyers credit card issuer disputing the chargeback! I confidently sent the proof since it clearly shows I sent an immediate refund and waited for the case to be closed in my favor- I was shocked when on January 4, I got an email stating the buyers financial institution sided in their favor and initiated a chargeback onto my account.

I sent an email back to Venmo asking how this could be because that is absolute fraud- it was very clear the buyer did in fact already get their $800 and all it would take was Venmo looking at it for 5 seconds to see that was true! Venmo debited by account $800 and it still sits unpaid with a balance of -$645.82 (had money come through).

Fast forward to the present; is it too late for me to do something about this? I have buyers name, possible address when I searched, & the name of a business they own. Yes, I should have already taken action, but I had a lot of things happen that took priority over everything else. Also, honestly, I kind of forgot about it, as I do not use Venmo very often. I logged in the other day and was furious when I remembered I never took action on this!! I was thinking I could go file a police report just to get a case number, send them a certified letter stating my intent to take them to civil court for theft by conversion/ fraud.

Have I waited too long? I live in Georgia (if that matters). I just want my account to not be negative so I guess I’m seeking the $800 they had charged back; as well as any filing costs for court. Anyone with advice or insight? Thanks for reading!

Transfer question while overseas

I’m moving temporarily overseas today, and a family member sent me about $100 on Venmo. I had just closed my old US bank account and opened a different fee-free US account. I connected that account to Venmo and initiated the transfer, but Venmo said in order to verify my bank, I’ll need to wait until two small deposits and withdrawals are made, and then confirm those amounts to Venmo.

However, it said that this can take 1-3 business days, and I’m leaving in a few hours. I also read that once I’m overseas, I won’t be able to log in to Venmo in order to do the verification. Is that true? If so, what happens to that money/what should I do?

Why won’t Venmo let me send a buddy rent money?

I joined Venmo a couple days ago because I’ve been staying at a buddy’s place for work for the last couple months and wanted to pay him quickly and easily. Well, it hasn’t worked.
The first day, it wouldn’t allow the entire $3000 payment, but I was “allowed” to send him $1000 in 4 installments ($500, $250, $249 and $1). The first dollar was a test to make sure he received the money.
Then yesterday, it wouldn’t allow me to send him anything. I called Chase to make sure it wasn’t them who stopped the payments. They said it wasn’t. “Your payment can’t be completed right now” is the message I get. Any ideas? TIA!
