Venmo support has been extremely unhelpful after permanently banning my account

My Venmo account was permanently limited and the entire situation has been very frustrating. I originally had an account that I used normally, then I closed it because I stopped using the service. Later I created a new account on the same device. After some time, the account got flagged and eventually permanently restricted. Support told me the decision is final and will not be changed, and I was also told not to create any new accounts because they would also be permanently limited. What’s frustrating is the lack of any clear explanation. I was only given vague terms like “risk” and “multiple accounts,” with no specific breakdown of what rule was actually violated. I wasn’t trying to bypass anything or do anything wrong. I just don’t understand how this turned into a permanent restriction with no real explanation or warning. At this point, it feels like once an account is flagged, there’s no real path for clarification or escalation.

is venmo the worst fintech of all time?

someone explain this to me please, so i just created a venmo account, and i understand that i have to wait for a card but thankfully they give the digital card to “use”. so i finish up verifying myself, and i get sent some money and when i try to cash it out to my personal debit card, they tell me they cant do it for whatever reason. so then im like, ok i will just use the card then since venmo wont let me cash out instantly like they said they would. fast forward ive tried to make purchases online, and in person using apple wallet/pay, and i continue to get payment declined yet i have the money in my account to make these purchases. so i said “ive had enough” and earlier today decided to call them to figure out what was going on…. worst mistake of my life. after waiting for 40 mins to get to someone, i finally get in contact with an agent, when i explained everything she told me to wait as she will figure this out as to what is going on. after sitting there waiting another 30 mins, the lady comes back to the phone and legitimately tells me “yes, venmo is declining your payments, but i cannot tell you why because i don’t see why” are you fucking kidding me? and to make it worse i ask her to take me to a supervisor and she tells me that they are going to say the same thing and refuses to allow me to speak to a higher up. and just to top it off, they made me remove my personal debit card i had on there telling me it would fix it and when that didn’t work, i tried to add it back and now its not allowing me to add that or any debit card OR bank account i have to my venmo again. has anyone ever gone through this? i cannot be the only one because im thinking of just waiting to get my physical card and just taking my money and never using this shit app again.

btw yes i use lowercases

I need help

HI so I have had a venmo account for a while, however I got my phone and card stolen so I had to get new ones. When i went to sign in, it wouldn't let me so I tried changing my password and I couldn't do it since I don't remember my old card number and have no access to the old phone numer. I have tried to call the number on Venmo's website but its just a robot that doesn't help me and keeps sending me to the other robot they have on their website which isn't helping me at all. I just don't know what to do. I have money on my account and I have no way of getting into it. Can anyone help me?

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again.

FUCK VENMO. FUCK PAYPAL!

I swear, I’ve never had any other money transfer platform want to hold my money, not even for one day. But this is probably the 4th time I’ve ever experienced a long hold on with these scheming fucks!

Had someone purchase something on marketplace, i reluctantly agreed to use Venmo, (even though ive used it a few times in recent weeks with no hiccups)

He tried sending to my personal accnt, keeps getting an error/ no explanation.

So I send him my business Venmo name ; it works but with a 21 day hold for “my protection”… “it’s an industry practice”

Um…. Nothing is being protected here, the only mfrs in this transaction that’s fucking me over is Venmo.

Spoke to customer service twice and they won’t budge.

It’s no surprise that Peter Thiel and Elon Musk had a hand in the founding of these shady company.

Venmo, go fuck yourself! Never again will I use this shitty scam of a service.

Banned

Need to know if I’m the only one who’s been banned? I’m talking years ago this happened. I literally used the app twice. Once to pay for my entry for a March Madness tournament. The other time to receive payment for a concert ticket I sold. After that, I was having issues. I got in touch with the support team who said my account was banned because I went against their policy. Every so often I try to go back in and see if I can get my account working. I cannot. I can get in, but I can’t link my bank or my card or anything. I can basically only see what transactions my friends make. I also try like once a year to contact the support team to see if my account can be reactivated. Nope. Banned for life I guess lol.

Endless Loop of Venmo “help” with disputing a transaction

I follow the prompts that say to:

  1. click on transaction

  2. click “get help”

  3. then click on the topic that best fits your issue

  4. I click on it and now I’m back to step #2

At no point am I able to actually file my dispute. I’m just trying to get a “seller’s fee” cancelled. Can anyone help me get out of this endless loop?

What happens after your Venmo account is closed by Venmo, but there were still funds in it?

Someone was able to successfully access my Venmo account fairly recently, so I called and verified my identity/information to regain access to/secure my Venmo account. They told me they’d let me know in up to 10 business days.

Two days later, I receive an email plainly stating that my account had been closed by Venmo and to create a new one with no explanation as to why they did what they did. I was incredibly frustrated by the situation, of course, and responded asking where the money that was in my account had gone now that the account was closed. They responded with “there are no funds available in your account due to closing the account” which was incredibly unhelpful.

I responded, again, saying that I understand that the account was closed, and asked where the money was that was in the account now that it’s closed and was greeted with the same, useless, single sentence response as before. Literally the worst customer service ever.

I’ve received no answers from Venmo, so if this has happened to you, or just know the answer, please let me know! It was “only” $79, but I’m a poor person and it was the last of the money I had until next week. I’m starting to think that I just lost my money, but I need to know for sure.

Any actual answers that aren’t macro responses à la Venmo would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

i’m getting a teen venmo account (and i’m dreading it)

my step dad opened a teen venmo account for me, and the card’s coming in about two weeks. for the record, i’m fifteen, and i figured just a regular ol’ account would be good. No. he saw that the teen accounts were an option and went “oh boy! this’ll be good for you ❤️” no papa. no it won't. 🫩

i want to open up commissions. obviously, since i’m a minor, i Can Not Do suggestive/sexually explicit work (i’m doing art and writing commissions)—nevertheless, it’s still embarrassing to have my step father monitor Every Single Move toward me or my own purchases 💔 i just know he’ll lecture me every time i buy something for my video games cause he hates when i do that—of course i’m not gonna blow all my commission money on video games i just wanna indulge ykwim,,, yet it still SUCKS!!!! i wanna convince him to revert the changes but i can already tell it’s gonna be hard with that stubborn man 🫩 any advice ??

My Venmo account is severely restricted but is in "good standing". Is it time to close my account and move on?

I've been with Venmo since 2019 but since last year I've been unable to add any debit cards. I also have to wait 5 business days to add funds from a bank account. I'm also not able to connect my Venmo account with online shopping accounts. I get absolutely nowhere with customer service as they're unable to resolve any of the issues, stating that they are "security precautions" while also stating my account is in "good standing". The current debit card cash back rewards are pretty awful (1% - 2%) compared with previous years.

I'm guessing it's time to move on and close my account. Is anyone else in the same situation or decided it was time to close their account?

Fraud issue

So I used to use Venmo for everything. Five years ago I got a text through Venmo from a roommate saying that she forgot her wallet and she’s in line at the grocery store- she asked me for $500 and without thinking I sent the money.

I called her to make sure that she got it and apparently her account was hacked(she used all of the same emojis that she normally uses when we text so I thought nothing of it).

I called Venmo to dispute the charge and they told me that since I approved it, they’d do nothing- so I went to my bank to have them reverse the charge.

Venmo didn’t like it- so they froze my account.

Going against my better judgements- all of my friends have been wanting me to go back to Venmo since it’s easier than Zelle/paypal- my question is- if I restart my account- will I get charged that $500?

Sent money scam - what happens next?

My wife got sent money from her aunt and was then told it was a mistake and to send it back. She sent the money back. Later that day, her Aunt reached out and told her her account was hacked. She never withdrew the money, it was the same money in the account.

What happens next? It at least wasn’t a stranger, it was her Aunt’s account. But I do know this is a scam (if I had known, I would have flagged it for her). Will she end up on the hook for the money sent back and is there anything she can do to prevent that?

What are good alternatives to Venmo?

Venmo worked great for me for years. Sometime in the last year something broke. Maybe it is fraud implementation sweeping up regular folks with the fraudsters.

In the last month I spent literally ~8 hours trying to get my Venmo functioning . It is time for me to churn and move to another tool. . So what alternatives do you all know of?

If you want to learn why, read my rant below.

Context:

I manage two Venmo accounts.

One is my personal account

One is attached to a trust account for my mom. She is 90 moderate dementia and can't manage her finances. It's attached to bank accounts my stepdad left for her care after he died. The trust Venmo account its the one I had not had to use for a while and mysteriously stopped working.

I'm struggling to get both Venmo accounts functional at the same time, which is a problem for me, since I used my personal funds to cover some of my mom's expenses while the trust Venmo account was not working and I was trying to get it operating.

<Rant begins>
complaints in bold:
No email notice came to the email address in that trust account about it being disabled. No warning popped up in the app. Even worse a misleading warning did, something like "please try again later." So I would. A day later. A few days later. a week later. I tried removing and re-adding different accounts that Venmo had never seen in case the bank accounts were flagged etc. Each time waiting for days to test and getting the same useless message Why didn't Venmo inform me the account had been disabled using the account email ?

I had to consult co-pilot to tease out from the symptoms that the account had been frozen. Why doesn't Venmo put that warning in the app? Working with co-pilot and retrying recommendations I had already been through (so a lot more time), it suggested I try an ID verification. I went through those steps after finding that screen buried somewhere in Venmo's labyrinthine interface and several days later (between 3 and 7, I did not try every day after I did ID verification) was reenabled. Hooray. I still could not send money from the Trust Venmo to my Venmo because In the meantime my personal Venmo had been disabled!

During the lengthy process working the Trust Venmo account including trying different phone numbers in case one has been flagged for some reason, I had attached my personal phone number to the trust account. So that apparently nixed being able to send funds to my personal account to reimburse stuff I covered when the trust account was offline. (da fuq?? Why is a valid phone number needed to receive funds in a previously valid account ID? I get it if the phone number was used for the ID, but I was using the Venmo alias!)

During this work, I frequently found myself stuck where the iOS version of the app needs a text input and will pop up a keyboard with the submit button in the app is hidden by the keyboard. More time on co-pilot, and apparently this is a known issue for a while...so I update the app. Still does not work . Why can't Venmo fix the problem with the iOS keyboard hiding submit buttons? Just put a "back" button at the top of every screen! I frequently ended up having to quit the app and restart and re-navigate through Venmo's fussy interface to where I was

I restored the original trust account phone number to the trust account, but when I tried to restore  my personal phone number to my personal Venmo account, Venmo won't accept the phone number!

Venmo website encourages me to the use the chat assistant. Can't find it. I learn from co-pilot it is only available in the mobile interface. Why the f* is chat assistant not available on the web where it is easier to actually type?

I tried the chat help and was told by a human to use the phone number for a 2 account problem, the number the website discouraged me from using. So I use it, work through the tree and am terminated with a recommendation to use the chat assistant. So I go back to chat. They give me a series of three menu digit presses to get to a real person. But the series is invalid...the last digits are 4 and 9 and after pressing the second digit the options end at 2. I get an invalid selection error trying the 4 or the 9 . I mess around with the series truncating the first key press suggested, or skipping the second... Skipping the second shows the most promise, but there is no 9 on that menu and 4 is to report an improper transaction, which is not my problem.

I don't know exactly how many hours I have spent doing this in total and the problem living rent free in my brain every time I forked out my own money to cover things for my mom, but I have had it with Venmo.

<Rant ends>

So what is your favorite non-Venmo, bank account to appto other people on the app money transfer tool? I am so done with Venmo. Only momentum of a couple of regular payments I used to make on it keep me on it at all. Past tense, because now I cannot make those payments anymore.

Sending bitcoin with Venmo: "There's a problem Right now, we're not able to complete this transaction."

I have a lot of people who want to pay my company using Venmo. We are unable to take it directly but we do take bitcoin. So we've told them to use venmo to buy bitcoin, then send us the bitcoin.

Every person who tried said they couldn't. So I decided to buy $100 or so worth of crypto. I waited about a week to make sure it was 'settled' in my account (even though I bought it with my venmo balance I've had forever). I tried to send it. Of course that made me have to KYC myself (lame). I did.

Then I tried to send it. Before I could even type in the amount, I got an error. It was right after I pasted in the wallet address. I tried several wallets via pasting the the address. I also tried scanning a QR code and browsing photos to find a QR code screenshot.

Each one had the same error: "There's a problem. Right now, we're not able to complete this transaction"

Zero info about what's going on.

In searching for help I've seen things like "restart your device". I really don't think that has anything to do with it but I did just for the sake of it. Didn't help. I saw it could be because of VPN. I'm not on a VPN (though if that was the issue, why wouldn't venmo say so?). I've made sure the app was updated.

The only thing I can think is it doesn't like my personal info I have (which I put in accordingly). However, if they think something isn't right, why not say that?

I tried to check with support and they just said "We'll escalate and get back to you in 2-3 days". LIke wtf?

Is this all just to keep people from sending $ out of their platform? They don't put any limits on money coming into Venmo. And you can buy as much BTC as you want with no verification. But as soon as you try to send it OFF their system ... The gates slam shut.

I'm trying to figure out why it's not working for me as a way to help others that want to use venmo to send us BTC payments (and yes, there are better apps to send BTC. But Venmo says they support it. They allow you to buy it. And allow you to send/receive. So why is 'send' failing for so many?)
