Account suspended

My account was suspended, I made it yesterday verified my id, and my everything else as needed. I change the name on my account as I didn’t want the people who were buying my stuff knowing my full name, I got around 800$ in transactions yesterday, my account was suspended when I woke up.

Should I be worried, I verified my id again today but a little scared there may be some other issues or it being denied since it doesn’t match my Venmo username any help is appreciated first time using Venmo

Support guy says i need to put my full irl name as my display name, But links an article saying otherwise.

"Before we unfreeze your account, we will need you to change the name on your account to your full legal name. (Your username can be whatever you'd like.) Venmo is a federally regulated money transferring service, so we will need this before allowing you to continue using our service."

they go on to link this article

https://help.venmo.com/cs/articles/signing-up-for-a-personal-account-faq-vhel187

which goes onto say "We understand that you may not use your legal name or not want others to see it on your profile, so you’ll also be able to use a display name of your choosing on Venmo."

"(insert my name) is not a person's name.

If you want to keep using the service, you need to change it"

what is going on here? i used venmo for years with no issue, It's not like they DONT have all my information.

Unauthorized account opened

I got an email an hour ago with three email messages saying that 1) there's new activity in my account, 2) a new device (an iPhone number) was added to my account, and 3) a welcome to venmo. I did not open a venmo account, and the name they used was my father's name.

I did not click anything on the email messages, suspecting it was phishing. I went to the website directly to try to see if I could find an account with my email number, hoping to find a message saying there's no record of my email on venmo. It asked for a password, so I believe someone did open an account. I had two options for password reset: send a code to the email or send the code to some iPhone number. When I had them email me the code, and used it to log in, they wanted me to have another code sent to the iPhone number to verify. I did not proceed.

I tried contacting a security person but got a chat bot telling me to log onto my account and remove the unknown number. Useless information because I can't even get into the account. The bigger issue is that I did not create the account but there are no resources in to help with this specific problem. I don't know how I did it, but I did manage to change the password to the account, but I can't login without the damn thing asking for the code to be sent to the unknown iPhone number.

I forwarded the emails to venmo's anti-phishing email address, explaining that I did not open any account. I forwarded them to my bank's anti-phishing email address. I changed my email password, my PayPal password, locked my debit cards, and I'm making a bunch of calls in the morning.

I have never used venmo in anyway in my wretched life. This was totally unexpected. I'm dealing with mom's cancer battle as her caretaker and I definitely didn't need this bullshit in the middle of the night.

If anyone could shed light on this, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

UPDATE: I CALLED THE NUMBER FOR VENMO SUPPORT AND I CHOSE THE OPTION FOR BANK DISPUTE AND GOT AN ACTUAL HUMAN BEING, WHO VERIFIED THAT AN ACCOUNT WAS INDEED OPENED WITH MY EMAIL AND DAD'S NAME. THEY SUPPOSEDLY TERMINATED THE ACCOUNT AND I EXPECT EMAIL CONFIRMATION OF THIS FROM VENMO SUPPORT.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIED TO THIS POST!

Fresh Opened Account is Frozen?

I just opened a Venmo account and it won’t let me add a bank or a card because my account is frozen. I have three thoughts as to why?

I had a VPN on for a different country, I use First Horizon bank, and I accidentally put my CVV in wrong for my card the first couple times. It didn’t notify me that any of these would FREEZE my account. This is so weird. Any help to get this fixed? Will I have to contact someone with Venmo?

I live in Korea

Hi. Looking for any insight on this. My backup (which I suggested to my mom to do) is to have her just cancel the transaction.

So my birthday is Monday and my mom wanted to send me money as a gift. Last year she did the same thing. I live in Korea which means the venmo app doesn't exist. In addition, I don't have the same US number and venmo doesn't allow international numbers (at least not korean numbers). but it was the only way my mom had access to sending me money and she was stressed about emergencies and such. I have an email connected to the venmo account.

But since the app doesn't exist in korea, I've always had to access venmo through the web. It worked last year on the same browser and device. But for some reason this year, it didn't recognize my device ? and you know how most apps send you a code? well it wants to send it to my phone number and there's no option to send to email or to verify a different way.

So then I call the phone number cuz i know you can send your documents and verify and stuff. But no one answers and it's this dumb ai robot and won't connect me to an operator and my specific question and request isn't on the ai's list.

So then I go to the ai chat thing on the website and to the help center online/contact us page. There's no actual way to contact them. it just says common questions and answers. and the ai chat and everything else says i can verify and contact more specifically through the app "help me" part or whatever it's called. But you can see my dilemma right? I don't have the app and can't get the app and even if I could, I can't sign into the app!!!

So now I'm turning to Reddit cuz google is no help and the venmo website isn't any help either.

Venmo account made with my email randomly

For whatever reason at midnight I got emails from Venmo to verify my email. I have reported the verify your email thing. What's odd is that I got a request for 1 dollar by a Lillian Shapiro who I don't know. A new device was also added to it. I've never had a Venmo account, what do I do?

Is there a risk when transferring my funds?

Hi everybody!

My friend was subleasing my room for two months and I paid their share already since I hadn’t gotten rid of my autopayment, so they reimbursed me twice on venmo ($600 twice) since they didn’t have zelle. I’m worried about transferring the funds to my bank account since I’ve heard venmo can freeze funds when you do that and confiscate it. I do use venmo sometimes to pay for things. Would I be better off just keeping the money in my account?

account says zero but i had money in there

I used Venmo so I could receive money from the party that bought a used car from me. They made all the payments. I left the money in my Venmo account to spend later. Today, when I looked (first time in months) my account reads zero dollars. I can't find any history of any transactions. What am I doing wrong?

VENMO IS A SCAM

I opened an account. I opened my account. I added money. Then they suspended my account. All within a day, now they won't refund my money for up to 180 days. Say I violated terms by opening an account and depositing money. Wild. Didn't even use the app outside of these transactions, yet. Scam. Filed with the BBB.

Account's been frozen for 3 weeks

Title. Not sure what to do - I filed with the CFPB already, and no one on Venmo support chat seems to know what they're talking about (first they said it would take 3-5 days to hear back, then I'd hear in 48 hours, now I'm being told to email the support@venmo.com email even though I got an auto-reply saying that they don't monitor that anymore). I've probably chatted them like 15 times total and each one has been unhelpful.

I submitted my ID 3 weeks ago, same day I got the notice that my account was suspended. Has anyone had any luck dealing with this? I don't know what else to do at this point. There's no phone number to call either...

Venmo account robbed

I was stuck in a corrections facility for over 70 days for a violation I didn’t really commit. My first attorney was trash and I had to wait for the slow process of new counsel before I was able to be freed and have all charges dropped. It really sucked and I lost a lot, living, job, car and girlfriend.

I checked my Venmo account after unlocking my phone and close to $1000 was robbed from me. $970 to be exact. Someone had gotten a hold of my card information and transferred as much as possible to their cashapp. I can see their first name and most of their last.

I have no idea what to do nor how to present myself to Venmo because it isn’t a real bank and when I file a claim I’m deathly afraid they will deny it as “fraud”. I can generate paperwork that I was being held and haven’t filed a police report yet. If this was a real bank I’d be confident but I know online banks like this typically overlook these types of theft

Using "show to pay"

What business situation could you actually use Pay At a Business for? I can't think of any grocery store or brick retail store that has advertised this option. Is this a small business thing only? Have I missed something obvious?

Don’t use PayPal Installments if have Venmo Credit Card

I have PayPal and Venmo. 100% payment history with both. I was buying a $30 thing and a payment method was PayPal’s pay in four. I thought it would be safer to test it on a small amount before using for something large, so paid with it. $30 divided at around $7.50 for 4 weeks. I had one week left when I got a letter from Venmo Credit (Synchrony) stating they reduced my credit limit because of various factors noted. Those factors were literally the stupid PayPal thing. $9000 limit reduced to the 3k I owe, with no extra. They yanked $5k over a $30 purchase. Hella rude. I get that it’s their money to do what they want, but it feels unfair considering the minimal purchase amount in proportion to what they yanked. I’m not thrilled because it’s not good for credit, it’ll increase my usage percentage and monthly payments. Feels like I’m being punished despite having 100% payments and even paying extra.

Scam??

So I get a text from a random number, asking if I'm available for a photoshoot (as i am a photographer) for their daughter. Im thinking, "oh cool someone wants to book with me!" So we get the photoshoot details and they ask me zelle or venmo for payment. I went with venmo.

Finalizing details for the photoshoot, which go smoothly.

Few hours later I get a text from another random number that basically says that a business account (guessing from the first random number) sent me the amount agreed upon for the shoot, but it's on hold due to the transfer being a "business to personal transfer" requiring a minimum of 500. Which only a phone number was provided to call whomever it is and I'm assuming making a payment to reach that 500 and then the under-minimum amount would be released, and then the funds that were needed would be refunded back. Which, I don't even have enough in my bank account to make that supposed payment

I have never heard of this before, but I am skeptical that it is a scam

Venmo vs PayPal

I have a big transaction to do for a private sale on a motorcycle. I looked up the PayPal charge and it’s 3% of what I’m sending. So on top of the 9000 I’ll also pay 270.
Venmo doesn’t have a fee right?
Why should I use one over the other? What should I use?

Disappearing Request

Please explain what is going on.
I have twice sent a request for payment, and twice that request disappeared from my account.
I just began using Venmo because customers requested it, but adapting to it has been hell. I got a completed payment of $1 as a test, but a larger request to a different person has not stuck, and has not populated across desktop to phone or phone to disktop.
I hope someone here can tell me what's going on.
