International Voter Drive 2026, for dual U.S.-Korean citizens and other U.S. citizens in South Korea

Hi- I'd like to make an announcement from Democrats Abroad, the official overseas branch of the U.S.-based Democratic Party with a chapter in South Korea. Since an extremely important election is coming in November, we're hoping to register more dual U.S.-Korean citizens and other eligible U.S. voters who live in South Korea.

We started our International Voter Registration Drive for 2026 with in-person and online events. If you know any eligible US citizens, they can register and request a ballot. Just send them this link: https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26. As long as they'll turn 18 by election day, they're eligible.

If anyone wishes to learn more about what we're doing near you, you can find out more at https://www.democratsabroad.org/kr. We have regular in-person meetups and events online. If you have any questions about overseas voting or what we do, feel free to ask in the comments below.

Has anybody else noticed that homeless people in the outer suburbs are fatter than the ones in CBD?

I spotted 2 homeless people last night, one was a man around 110 kg, the other was a woman around 130 kg (separate encounters). It was really surprising, because the woman asked me for cigarettes and told me she only had 50 cents to her name, but she was extremely obese so I found it hard to believe her. At that point I realised that most homeless people I've seen in CBD were normal sized, but most every homeless person I see in the suburbs are somehow really fat. Are the food programs out here really that generous? How can somebody who has 50 cents to their name get so big? How can they afford these 6000kcal daily rations when food is so expensive these days?

The biomechanics at play here simply don't coincide with the financial implications.

Why does it seem that homeless people only get fat if they live in outer suburbs vs CBD?

Victoria’s getting 3 hours of free electricity a day from October

victoria's midday power saver kicks off 1 october: free electricity 11am-2pm every day including weekends, for about 2.6 million eligible households. this is a real, confirmed scheme straight from the vic government's own site, not something floating around unverified

you actually need to contact your retailer from october 1 and ask for it specifically, and you'll need a smart meter, if you don't have one you'll need to ask them to upgrade you first. there's also a 24 kwh daily cap during the window, and retailers are allowed to price things slightly higher outside that window to cover it. so it's not free money for everyone, it really depends on whether you can actually shift stuff like laundry, ev charging, dishwasher etc into the middle of the day

Why is Victorian Police so bad?

I’m living in Brighton from Japan and last night a neighbour - a youngish couple had a domestic fight. I called 000 as it was starting to sound more from a tense argument between a couple to actual abuse. The police didn’t turn up until 10am the next day. They rung the buzzer of my apartment to get onto the floor and I let them up. While they were leaving I heard them at the lift and the officer stated "It's her fault for not leaving and she probably deserved it for being mouthy". I spat out my coffee when he said that and then he told me to not waste their time again calling. Saw my neighbour later on in the day and she has a black eye.

What is going on? I haven’t had any dealings with the police in Australia and keep my head down. I only called as his screaming was so loud and the banging sounded like he was throwing things and things had been smashing.
