Sony WM-DD100 "Boodo Khan"

Saved it from a landfill back when I worked at a transfer station/city dump. Came with matching headphones but those are in the repair pile. Still works and had the “gear click” repaired. Love this thing.

Sony nw-wm1zm2 gold as my first dap as a newbie need help

Hi,

So I just purchased the topmost expensive dac out there since i am a Sony fan as well loved growing my childhood with mp3s, Sony phones, bravia screens, playstaion portable (psp) etc so as I sound lover as well I decided to bring my childhood back by purchasing the gold mp3 (at least that's what a layman like me would call it), I haven't received the device yet as I have imported from Japan should take couple of weeks, so I am little clueless and little shocked and wanted to confirm that I will get no benefit in my current bluetooth earbuds Sennheiser momentum tws4 or any other Bluetooth headphones which I use in gym. Is it only for wired headphones the advantage I will get? if it is true please let me know I might cancel the order because I can't use wired headphones in the gym it's really hard, if there are any iems that can give me advantage over my sony xperia 1 viii smartphone please let me know otherwise it's just a waste of money for me and also do let me even if there will be slight of advantage I might be get out of it as a sony fan i might still keep it

I missed the warm sound of my old Sony Walkman, so I built a macOS sync app

Hi everyone. I have always liked the warm, slightly nostalgic sound of older Sony Walkman devices.

There is something about picking up one of these little players, pressing play, and hearing music from a dedicated device instead of a phone.

But for a long time, I barely used mine.

Not because the Walkman was broken.

Because syncing music to it from a modern MacBook was just too annoying.

For a lot of SonicStage-era models, the usual options are something like:

  • Find an old Windows machine
  • Install SonicStage
  • Set up a Windows VM
  • Fight with USB passthrough
  • Hope the device is detected
  • Transfer a few songs
  • Repeat the whole thing later

At some point I realized the device itself was still lovely. The real problem was the transfer workflow.

So I built a native macOS app called ManicStage.

The goal is simple: use a Mac to sync music to older Sony Walkman devices that use the OMGAUDIO library structure.

I have not found another native macOS tool that does this for these old SonicStage-era devices, so this may be the first practical macOS sync tool for this generation of Walkman.

It can detect the device, show the library, import/delete music, and sync changes back to the Walkman.

Please back up the entire Walkman USB root directory before trying it. Not just the OMGAUDIO folder. The whole mounted device.

Verified so far:

  • NW-S700 series
  • NW-S600 series
  • NW-E300 series
  • NW-E400 series
  • NW-E500 series
  • NW-A600 series

Other Walkman models that require SonicStage for syncing may theoretically work too, but I would treat them as unverified until tested.

I am mainly looking for compatibility feedback from people who still use these older devices, especially Mac users who have been stuck with the old Windows/SonicStage/VM workflow.

If you try it, I would love to know:

  • Exact model
  • macOS version
  • Whether sync and playback work
  • Whether the device enters Simple Mode

I figured this community might have the right people and the right old hardware to tell me whether this is useful beyond my own devices.

Finally part of the family — just got my A55!!

Hi,

I received my NW-A55 a few days ago. I’ve been testing it out, and honestly, it sounds incredible it’s exactly what I wanted. It came from Japan, and everything looks great.

It has Walkman One installed; it sounds fantastic, and it’s fast and easy to use.

I’ve wanted a Walkman from the very beginning that was my goal but before buying one, I decided to try out an iPod Video while saving up for a Walkman. For now, I plan to use this A55 while I save for a higher end model later on, but that’s a plan for another time; I wanted something I’d really enjoy that would give me a feel for the sound quality. I’m definitely loving it so far and look forward to enjoying it even more.

I can honestly hear a huge difference in sound quality compared to my iPod Video and .

I’m so happy to FINALLY be part of the Walkman family.

I’m thrilled to FINALLY be part of the Walkman family.

A306 (JP)

Currently in Tokyo and saw this in akiba yesterday. Should I buy it? I’m totally new to walkmens as I would upgrade from an iPod classic 160gb. Warranty won’t work the employee said to me. Also saw that it is currently not available in my country where I could find only more expensive models

I built a custom sound tuning tools for linux-based Walkman players

Hi everyone,

I recently organized and published a research project around custom tuning on linux-based Sony Walkman players:

https://github.com/neoncloud/walkman-tuning-guide

The goal is to convert AutoEq / PEQ parameters into CXD3778GF (known as S-Master) tone tables that can be loaded by Walkman players, giving A / ZX / WM series devices a much more flexible headphone correction path than the stock 10-band EQ.

The main finding is that some Sony Walkman players expose a CXD3778GF audio path with an internal tone-control table. Based on firmware/kernel research and hardware testing, this table can be modeled as five cascaded second-order IIR / biquad filters. Sony’s stock firmware also appears to select different tone tables depending on headphone/output cases.

The project currently includes:

- AutoEq / PEQ to CXD3778GF tone-table conversion tools
- direct table-write flow for A-series players
- a helper kernel module for ZX300A to force the table into codec tone RAM
- an example of Moondrop Blessing 3 sample tuning table
- backup, deployment, and restore documentation
- algorithm notes and reproducible experiment scripts

I have tested the workflow on NW-A50 and NW-ZX300A. On A-series devices, the table can be applied more directly. On ZX300A-class devices, the stock kernel updates the in-memory table but does not automatically reload the codec tone RAM, so a helper module is needed.

Important warning: this is still a research project. Please back up your device before trying anything, ideally including system partitions / a full-device backup. The workflow involves ADB, /proc writes, and on some models kernel modules. It is not something I would recommend trying blindly if you are not comfortable with recovery procedures.

If anyone here is interested in Walkman firmware, AutoEq, or low-level tuning on A / ZX / WM series players, I would love feedback, issues, corrections, or test reports from other models.

NW-Axxx nwm maker

Since I still had some credit left over from my one-month subscription to ClaudeCode,

I decided to create a screen saver conversion tool for NW-607 on Windows.

My First Walkman

Got my first Walkman today! Everything works ok, the only issue is the pinch roller is pretty wobbly that affects the sound of some of my more worn tapes. I’ve got a replacement part on the way as well as new belts just to replace as a precaution.

Any way to download files onto my old NW-F806?

Recently got my hands on this. I love it so much and it works beautifully but I'm worried about the possibility I won't be able to download files onto it because of its age. Not sure how to go about transferring files from my PC onto it since I feel that's probably the only real way to go. Any ideas? Anything helps

So, I bought a Sony NWE-015, and the battery was broken. I was hoping that anyone here would know where I could buy a replacement battery for it.

NW-E505 Not powering on

I had recently ordered a battery for my Walkman since the old battery was all bloated up, when I plugged it in it did not power on, I figured I had to let it charge maybe, after an hour or so, it didn’t power on either. Before the old battery died out, the music player was working just fine so I’m not sure if it’s just a faulty battery, do I remove the kapton tape? I don’t know what to do since I don’t have a whole lotta experience with repairing stuff.

How much do you think this is worth?

Sony Sports WM-AF54 Walkman from 1989, still in its original box. Unused. Even the manual is still in its original plastic wrapping. What do you think it's worth?

Sony Walkman NWZ-E344 not booting up

About a week ago, my mom found her old Walkman and gave it to me to see if I could turn it on. I've let it charge for multiple hours, and it seems to crash any time I try to turn it on

The first image appears when it charges using a wall outlet. It loads for a bit, then goes black for a second, before turning back on and having the cycle repeat (I know very little about walkmans, but I think this is called a boot loop?). It also happens when I try to turn it on by pressing one of the buttons.

The second image is when I plugged it into my laptop. Not too sure if its unusual or not, but it was a change so I got a picture of it just in case. I could never find the file for the walkman on my laptop either.

I tried using the small reset button on the back, but nothing changed. Is it salvageable? Any help would be appreciated; thank you so much!!

Sony Walkman Stereo Radio Cassette-Corder WM-F2041 no audio from tape, only from radio

r/cassetteculture...I really need your help!

Before I start, I want to preface that I have already tried all of the usual fixes. Brand new belts, tape head and rubber wheel cleaned, fresh batteries tested, any of the common fixes.

I picked up a Walkman WM-F2041 at Goodwill a few weeks back, and ever since, I have been trying to fix it. it is in *ALMOST* perfect working order, the record LED no longer works (which is fine), but what isn't fine is that it has no audio when a tape is played, only when the player is set to radio does anything happen. That has been the issue for a few weeks, however when I sat down today to work on it, there was a slight development, when the tape setting is set to 2 or 3 (CrO2/metal) there is a humming/buzzing that comes through the headphones. Other than that, though, no other kind of audio comes through (see attached video in the comments). I have attached a video showing that everything runs normally, along with two photos, one of each side of the board. I'm hoping that someone will notice something that will help me. This model is one of my grails and I really want to be able to have it for daily use. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance!

WM-2091 motor isn’t running

The motor seems fine and spins freely. It also gets the power from the battery but it isn’t working, it’s just making some vibrational noise (with and without the belt). Any ideas?
