I know there are some understanding and helpful cycling groups in E17 but sadly they cycle too far for me.
I bought an e bike recently. (legit model!)
It has given me access to cycling I desperately missed.
Wondering if there's a group of cyclists with disabilities in Walthamstow that I can join?
Thank you
Can anything be done about the constant black crackhead beggars who come into the chicken shop next to the gym on the high street/market who hassle customers for spare change or one pound? Especially that bearded aggressive black man who often also hangs around outside Lidl asking for change? Getting sick of being hassled by black crackheads when I'm eating my fried chicken.
For me it’s the weird mix of things all packed together. You’ve got the market, loads of independent food spots, decent parks, quick access into central London, proper community feel in some parts, then complete randomness on the Victoria line five minutes later
Hiya. I’m looking to find a local community in Walthamstow and wondered if anyone had started, or would be interested in joining, a monthly queer book club. Would love to join one, but happy to try to get one going if folks are keen.
I’ve made an email for anyone interested. Drop me a message and I’ll get things moving. e17queerbooks@proton.me
Has anyone come across a man who claims to be far away from home, and asks for money (18 pounds) to get the train back (sometimes very insisting)? As a young female, I’ve come across him a few times and he is always very pushy. He insists for me to go to the ATM, and I always say I don’t carry my cards with me. I try to give him some change, but today he made me check my own bag for more. Has it happened to anyone else in the area? He sometimes changes his look, but I have recognized him now.
I have moved to the area in February and am astonished at how behind the council is in terms of accessibility.
You cannot email them. You cannot call them via a BSL relay service like all the other councils. You cannot walk-in. They have two hours walk-in 4 days a week; whilst Camden Council is open every business day, nine to five. And that limited hours of walk-in don’t come with BSL support…
Bit of a cheek especially when Waltham Forest CT is more expensive than my previous…
The only way to contact them is by calling in alas my ears don’t quite work for that 🫠
Is there any other Deaf & hoh who struggle to contact the council? Or have any tips?
TIA!
PS, I had paid my council tax with the barcode on the letters alas it doesn’t seem to have updated their system.
At the top of higham hill road opposite the co-op, dark grey van speeds and bams into speed bump and nearly mounts curb.
I walk up to the window to tell them to watch how they are driving and just calm down, they say they are “celebrating and just having a good time” they were clearly drink driving and carried on their way.
Careful out there neighbours.
Don’t need to know what has happened just very reliant on the bus right now and trying to figure out a route when I’m already late…
Hey there, I’m part of the Friends of Lloyd Park, who organised the May Fair, Dog Show and Skate Jam in the park last Bank Holiday.
We think it went well but would love to have feedback from people who went. If you have any comments, feedback or suggestions - please let us know! Thanks!
Random horse spotted on the wetlands reservoirs today - notified the team working and looks it may have wandered on.
Hi, I'm looking for a relatively quiet space to read / study / do some work. Somewhere I could just show up with a book or my laptop for a couple of hours.
Too many distractions at home and sometimes it's good to change the scenery.
Not interested in coworking spaces, more something along the lines of Barbican or the Wellcome Collection reading room. Bonus if it has access to greenery/outdoors.
Thanks!
(I will forever call it that, 17 & Central who?)
I was just chatting with my mam about the Selbourne Walk of long ago.
* I think that ASDA was once Food Giant, then Kwik Save?
* There was a pink Cadillac crashed (decor!) into the wall on the top floor
* I think Tammy Girl was where The Perfume Shop is now
* There was definitely an Athena and a Virgin Megastore, I think almost opposite one another?
Anyone got anything to add? 😁
Looking to try out some local spots on Too Good To Go around Walthamstow and wanted to see which ones are actually worth it to avoid disappointment and waste.
Who gives the best hauls or top quality food, and who should I avoid?
Let me know!
I’m a woman in my 40s, no kids, working in the creative industry. Mostly WFH but with meetings in central London, sometimes every day. For commute, I need easy access to London Liverpool St or Tottenham Hale (for Stansted express), so I’m looking at flats max 15 min walk from Victoria Line stops.
Safety is paramount, as I keep late hours. I also really like film / theatre events.
With my budget, I can afford to buy ex council 1B in Finsbury or something a little bit nicer in Walthamstow.
I love Walthamstow Village vibes but FP just seems so well connected with everything, and I’m afraid the extra time on commute will start to add up once the honeymoon period is over.
On the other hand, I have heard negative stories around Finsbury Park safety and some of the apartments I’ve seen look really shabby.
Any insights?
Especially reasons NOT to move to choose Walthamstow.

Hey neighbours, I've lived here for 4 years now and been a huge fan of the beer mile. Having a little career break now so as you can guess that involves a fair bit of drinking beer, so I made a web page that shows which venues on (and near) the Beer Mile are open and what the happy hour deals are.
(I hope a little self promotion is okay - I don't want to make this commercial, it's just a more information dense alternative to the official Blackhorse Beer Mile website which unfortunately doesn't include this information...)
Really pleased to see Trades Hall make the Timeout list of the greatest indy music venues in the UK! It is well deserved recognition for a club that puts on a wide variety of shows and events. There are some great folks working hard to really make the most of the venue. Congratulations to all involved!
And if you haven't been or haven't been lately, have a look at the schedule here, there might be something you would really enjoy!
Looks like there's been a large power surge around Barclay, Maynard and Beulah Roads. Loads of Power Network vans and people in hi vis knocking at doors to assist people. School closed due to it.
Police also on Maynard taping off the alleyway by the back entrance of Henry Maynard, don't think that's related.
With the Bank Holiday weekend rapidly approaching, the queues are going to be legendary. Are you heading to the Big Penny Social for a cooking class or a sound session, or are you staying at Signature Brew for the UEFA Conference League final and the Vegan Arts Festival? Which one has the better vibe for a sunny afternoon?
Saw the news about River Island shutting down dozens of branches. Given how many empty units we’ve already got in 17&Central and the general bleak vibe of certain parts of the High Street lately, I’m worried we’re losing our big anchors. If the big chains keep vanishing, what would you actually want to see in those spaces? Personally, I’m voting for more independent food stalls and fewer Lucky 7 betting shops.
