Lost ginger cat

Lost ginger cat

Following up on the previous post with a picture. This cat was found on Beulah Road. He's 1 year old and not microchipped or neutered, we took him to the vet last night. He's very chatty.

The LDRS observed a busy floating bus stop next to Blackhorse Road station. Over the course of two hours, several close calls with pedestrians were observed, cyclists were seen travelling down the wrong track and multiple e-bikes and e-scooters didn’t skip a beat as they sped by.

Nursery Recommendations Around Blackhorse Road

We're looking at nurseries in Walthamstow (near Blackhorse Road station). Our baby will be 9 months when starting so they need a baby room, and will only be a couple of days a week. I think possible options that seem to be a reasonable walk are:

  • Early Buds / Early Education Centre - Northcote Road
  • Little Diamonds
  • Sugar Plum Tree Nursery (Erskine)
  • Harvey House Nursery
  • Giggle Tots
  • Busy Bees

Would love to hear if anyone has had experiences - good or bad, with any of these!

Has anyone lost a ginger kitten near the village?

On Beulah Road there's a ginger kitten which appears to be lost and distressed, mewing loudly. Spoke to neighbour who had helped him down from a tree, but it is not his kitten. He has posted on the Beulah Rd whatsapp. Sharing in case anyone is looking for him.

Plumber recommendations

Hi! I’m hoping to remove the radiator in my hallway as we don’t use it and need to make space. We need a plumber to remove it so it would need isolating, taken off and capping at floor level.

Any recommendations for a local plumber that doesn’t cost the earth please?

Going through builder recommendations on the whatsapp group

We're planning to get an extension done and I just started going through builder recommendationson the E17 whatsapp group. There's a name that keeps on popping up but it's always mentioned by the same woman, which it looks a bit suspicious. So, has anyone got any work done by Liviu from Elite total building?

Aesthetically Pleasing Butts

Water butts... We have three of the council ones in the rear (was going to do another pun there but it's too early in the morning) garden but would like to have two attached two downpipes from an Apex conversion (downpipes on either side).

Is there anywhere in Walthamstow that sells some nicer looking water butts that attach to drain down pipes? Not keen on the whiskey barrel ones...

Bonus points if I can buy a third one and convert it into a plunge pool 😁

Grass fire in Wild Marsh East?

Does anyone know anything about the grass fire in the meadow area, in between the Lockwood and Banbury reservoirs? I live fairly close by but haven't seen or smelled anything burning over the last couple of days, but I walked through there earlier and most of it is toast. Can't see anything online either. It's such a beautiful spot, really sad.

(Also, if you leave bottles or chuck fag ends around in places like this, in weather like this, then fuck you SO much.)

What is this abomination ramp?

They fixed something in Blackhorse Road and St Andrew’s Road and they left this abomination of a ramp. The cars dodge it and those who don’t suffer the consequences. Feels like a poor done job

Someone to speak to?

Does anyone who doesn’t mind at all hearing about someone’s terrible life experiences want to meet up and try and distract me from the God awful things happening to me right now? I’m 23M black gay if those things matter

Dockless e-Bike consultation

Do I think they’re perfect? No.

Are they the lesser of two evils (driving/Ubers/SUVs, having your own bike knicked etc.) ? Probably, I think.

Discuss (try not get too NIMBY)!

Finding a pet-friendly rental

Hello! I'm hoping to move to the area from Lisbon sometime next year. I'm having trouble finding any rentals that allow for pets, and I have two cats. Does anyone have any recommendations of how to navigate that, or places to search that are not rightmove? I'm wondering if there is a Slack channel or something that allows for a bit more personalization than a Google search.

Anyone live in the Eades?

Considering moving there and would love to ask some questions about how it is living there!

Particularly interested to know whether people are social (e.g. a WhatsApp group, activities etc).

Also was surprised Lime bikes don't go to Walthamstow! How easy is it getting around? Is the Weaver Line reliable?

Selling your house near Blackhorse Rd?

We are a young professional couple living near Blackhorse Road station for the last year, and are looking to purchase our first house here.

Thought I would check in with our neighbors to see if anyone is considering / about to put their property on the market. We are first time buyers with no chain, and solid financing. It would be ideal to connect with a seller before a home comes to the open market — we’re finding the viewing system so challenging, and many houses are being bought by investors. We can offer a chain free sale, and that we will take care of and grow our family in the home we purchase.

- > 1/4 mile from Blackhorse Rd Station (10mins max walk)

- £600 - £675 K

- Victorian freehold houses only, looking to extend out the garden and into the loft

We are a kind and ambitious couple who love this area, have already heavily invested our time and energy here and want to really connect with the right home and seller.

Barking Dog / House of Horrors (Chapel End)

We have spent the last 6 months since moving here trying to find the source of constant barking from an aggressive dog in Chapel End (barking 9pm-sunrise, almost daily).

Summer (windows open) has been impossible and we're averaging 2-3hrs sleep per night. napping is now a full-time hobby.

A property on our street matches the general direction of the barking, and the house looks like a nightmare scene...

Newspaper in windows, boarded door panels, roller shutter and iron gate over front door.

I left a note which stuck out of the letterbox untouched, yet a dim light is always on in the upstairs window.

Ringing the bell summons a large terrifying creature that doesn't bark, but shrieks like a velociraptor, smashing into the door with it's full body weight. Not the dog we hear at night, who is always out back making noise.

Anyone with an E174L_ postcode who may know the source of the barking, assistance in locating/contacting the owner would be greatly appreciated.

P.S Council & police dragging their feet re: noise complaints/animal welfare checks on this.

Buying a flat in Walthamstow with the option to purchase the loft — anyone done this?

We live in Walthamstow and are looking to buy a flat to stay in the area long-term. We’ve found a 2-bed flat in a Victorian conversion that we really like — no garden, no loft currently included, but the agency mentioned the freeholder is open to negotiating a separate purchase of the loft. The freeholder is one of those large ltd companies, so I’m not sure if that makes the process easier or more painful.

We’re a bit unsure about the loft side of things, since we’re planning to grow our family and will likely need more space down the line. Has anyone here bought a loft separately from a freeholder, especially one of these big property companies? How did it go — good or bad experience? Any pitfalls to watch out for (cost, planning permission, how cooperative/slow they were, timeline, etc.)?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been through this.

Thanks in advance!

How to find a block management company

I have a block of flats behind my house and in their shared garden there is a massive tree thats in desperate need of being cut as its over my garden and touching my fence etc etc.

Ive asked people in the garden if they know, no ones does, ive googled it, called estate agents who are selling a flat in the block, nobody knows..

It feels like they are doing everything to not be found at this point, what can I do? Call the council? Maybe my insurance company to say the tree might affect the foundations?

Please help

Big penny social

I love the place and go there frequently, but why has it got so loud on Fridays and Saturday evenings recently?

Lots of my neighbours are talking about it; have they changed their sound system or something?

Thinking of mentioning something to them, before they get a load of noise complaints. People in our development next door are getting rather fed up with it. We didn't have this problem until recently.
