Trapped on tiny backcountry delta road by Waze

Fighting traffic coming back home after the fourth weekend, Waze reroute me to I5 then to a tiny backcountry Road on the Delta. I’m now trapped in a multi mile line of cars on a road that probably doesn’t see this many cars in a month.

I’ve been a huge fan of Waze for so many years, but Epic fail of the Waze algorithm to shove hundreds of cars on this tiny little road.

Background

So if I just open Waze in phone without setting a destination- I’ll get the same alerts as if I programmed? I’m interested in the speed and red light camera alerts. Thanks in advance

How can I filter out A roads?

On my way back home tonight there was roadworks getting on to the A3 but Waze was giving me no other options to get home and you can't turn off motorways to get another route because it's not a motorway. Anyone know how to get around this next time?

Legal to interact with Waze?

Waze sometimes prompts with pothole still there? Or broken down car still there? Etc.

Is it legal to respond while driving?

If not, how is that different from using menu driven

Screens to adjust air con etc?

How is Waze in rural Italy?

Is Waze good at avoiding routing you down dirt roads or too narrow passages?

On a trip to the rural south, I used Google Maps, and had it route me down dirt roads with signs that said tractors only, or "road not suitable for vehicles", when there were good paved alternatives that were much faster.

I tested one route with Waze, and it avoids the dirt road, but half that road is missing on Waze's map (perhaps because it is a path at that point).

Another route I tested avoids a 2 meter wide road, in favor of a longer route that doesn't involve getting your car wedged between two homes.

Anything else I should know about Waze in Italy?

Waze minimalized window like gmaps

Yeah so I'm looking for a solution to make it work like gmaps. On Android 16 the app just closes. I would like to fix this somehow. Most of you are probably on iOS but I'll give it a try.

Perhaps the worst part about Waze

Can we talk about where Waze fails epically: Closure reporting! Can we finally get closure reports that actually work intuitively?

You hit “Report Closure”, and if you take too long because you can’t safely flag the closed segment or if you already passed it enough so that it’s not selectable on the map, the app “saves”it for you to complete later.

But when later comes and you tap the little road barrier to complete the report, Closure reporting doesn’t give you the GPS coordinates and road segments of where you initialized the report; it gives you your current whereabouts. This defeats the purpose of that button and the “Later” feature.

I asked AI which explained Waze treats a closure report as a Map edit, not as a hazard report. Which I think is overkill in the case of a closure being a temporary blockage because of construction or police. But if they already know your GPS and heading when you hit the button, there no actual reason it shouldn’t be treated like a temporary hazard and work correctly.

And in general, I also think it would help to be able to “backtrack” on your traveled route to report a closure that you just drove too far past before you hit the report button.

I feel like closure reporting is fully broken. I’ve been driving with Waze for over 10 years and I don’t remember this feature ever working right.

Forget lane guidance, EV routing, or driving with the Terminator. It seems like no work has been done to fix Closure reporting, which ought to be a priority because it could save other drivers from frustration and hours of soul crushing traffic daily.

How can we crowd shame them into finally fixing it?

Waze camera icons have gotten out of hand

I genuinely love this app but lately it’s driving me nuts. The whole reason Waze took off was the speed/red-light camera alerts — that was the killer feature nobody else had. Now half the time I can’t tell if an icon means red light camera, speed camera, or just… a light. They all kind of blend together.

Back in the day you’d see maybe 1-2 icons on your route, tops 4. Now it feels like every other intersection has something popping up and I have to squint at the screen to figure out what it actually is. Which defeats the whole purpose — I don’t want to be staring at my phone longer while driving, I want a quick glance and back to the road.

Anyone else feel like the icon clutter has gotten worse? Is there a setting I’m missing to simplify this, or did they really just add that many camera types without redesigning the UI to match?

There should be an option to turn if on or off

What pop-up message did I just agree to?

I got a Waze pop-up message at the exact same time I clicked my screen. All I remember is I clicked the "I understand" button, and now I'm just wondering what it is that I understand? Has anyone else got that message today?

This does not need reporting as "lane blocked"

I keep getting reports of "blocked lane ahead" on the motorway and it's just roadworks where they have ditched the hard shoulder and moved the lanes over, please stop reporting it as a blocked lane! All the lanes are open! 🤦

Waze on Apple CarPlay doesn't show map

Has anyone else seen an issue where when Waze is full screen on the car display, it does not show any content? When I do split screen, it shows fine but when I make Waze the full screen, it's just the background with no actual content at all.

Waze Apple Play Issue

Nissan Rogue 2019. This is what I see on the infotainment screen
I’ve tried everything. Rebooted both phone and info unit 3 times each, deleted/reconnected my phone to the Rogue, the Waze app is up to date.
The Apply Map and Google Maps seem to be working.
I have felt for some time that the infotainment unit Firmware is to out of date. I opted for the Firmware Update option on screen, but says it’s the latest Firmware.
Maybe I should have posted this on a Nissan Rogue group haha
Anyone have this issue?
