momusu's current vocals and some rants...
sorry for the long post ahead! I have so many opinions and no momusu friends 🥹 correct me if I'm wrong or anything.
i have been a fan of the group since '14 and now i just occasionally follow the group's updates and songs because i am not liking the group's direction in the past years. but i am very excited for the group's (hopefully) new direction with the addition of 18ki. they are so cute.
because i haven't been following the group as much, it came to me as a sad but welcome surprise that there has been a member exodus and the only '14 member left is Sakura. i really am excited for her future but i am scared for what's going to happen to momusu's vocals once she graduates. Sakura has been hard carrying the vocals ever since i can remember.
I've binge-watched the most recent performances of the girls and while i enjoy them, it feels like the vocal stability hasn't been quite as consistent lately. With how intense their choreography is and how their recent songs have high registers, it seems like a really tough set to pull off live.
Homatan is doing exceptionally well and has grown to her potential (see: Maria's graduation) but I wouldn't call her utahime (maybe just yet). Panda-san too. People are saying that Haruka will be Sakura's successor, but she is still growing and quite unstable. With Chel's injury, I think graduation isn't that far for her as well.
And i love Rairii, she's my current oshi, but the songs have been hard for her lately because it's not her range!! it's like setting her up for failure. She sounds so much better with the Golden Era songs. I can say the same for Getter. As for 18ki, they have a deep pool of talent that hopefully UF won't let go to waste. I have such high hopes for them.
But yes, I don't think they've found the next utahime yet. Sakura’s vocals are such a cornerstone of the group that it's hard not to worry about who will carry that specific utahime legacy next. I'd love for her to have that same complete confidence Reina had when she noted, 'Finally someone was added that has very strong singing capabilities' when Sakura was added.
I fully blame UF for this. They had years!!! And I'm gonna be even more pissed at them if they don't change the group's direction. Yes, the recent songs are great i love them, but UF has done nothing but hang on to the brand. The group has been stale lately to the point that Mizuki wasn't even recognized as a member of momusu. I just feel bad for the girls. They deserve so much better.
TL;DR: Momusu has not found the next utahime. I'm scared of what will happen to the group's future vocal-wise. UF needs to do better!!!
