Is this normal?

I’ve just recently adopted a Devon Rex kitten! She’s female and 6 months old. I’m told she’s on her “ugly duckling” stage as the breeder called it. Her fur should grow in soon haha. Anyways I noticed she has a leaky eye and it crusts. I clean it everyday but was told it was due to feline herpes she got from her mother. Now her other eye (the good one) has almost like a film on it. It’s foggy and I’m really worried!! She seems to be acting just fine. Purring and playing with her brother, but is this normal for Devon’s or did she just get unlucky and this is the symptom of the herpes? Would love to know if any veteran Devon owners experienced this! Thank you! 😊

Out and about?

hi. We are adopting 2 one year old boys from a local breeder! It is our first time owning cats together as a family. the breeder mentioned that they were show cats so they are good at being out and about. Besides shows, where do you take your Devon rex? We do not plan to show or attend shows.

Eye crusties prevention

Good morning, Devon Rex lovers. I have something that’s been on my mind. My one year old boy has constant eye crusties at the inner corner of his eye. I clean them out when I can, usually daily, and it doesn’t seem to bother him, and there’s no irritation.

I’m wondering if there is any preventative measures, or if it might just be the way his tear ducts and face shape work, with his big eyes and small nose.

My second Devon doesn’t have the same problem at all, but has a slightly different face shape. Would love any thoughts?

Skin Problems

Hello! I have a Devon Rex boy (Kitty) that is turning 5 in November. For thr last three weeks we've been having some skin problems. We thought it was ringworm because he was losing some hair, he was on antifungal medicine and cream for one week. Came back because that didn't help at all. Thought it might be malassezia yeast infection, but he tested negative for that. So the doctor prescribed antibiotics incase it was a bacterial infection. We've been om that for 2 weeks now, plus the cream (why his fur is orange) and medicated shampoo baths twice a week, but these brown flecks on his skin keep coming back so fast. I give him medicine day and night, we clean the sites (head, neck, and thighs) before applying the cream and in the morning it looks like I haven't wiped whatever these flecks are away again. I have no idea what they are. But we've ruled out fleas, ringworm, and Malassezia. If you have any insight, please let me know 🙏

Local breeder

Talking to a local breeder and was wondering if anyone on here had dealt with them and how their experience was long term. Been talking with kurakats in North Carolina and I’ve found a kitten that I’d like to get just trying to do my due diligence before I make any purchases.

We just got my baby boy Gizmo a little brother… is he a full devon Rex?

Hello everyone! We just got our baby boy Gizmo (13 months) a little brother. His name is coco (6 months old) he’s a total sweetheart. BUT he sheds a shit ton of fur. Like a SHIT TON. We’ve only had gizmo so far and he doesn’t shed at all. (See gizmo, grey kitty) the woman who sold him to us had to get rid of him because her stepson is super allergic. She doesn’t have any papers for him, no chip no vaccines. He’s not neutered yet either. He comes from an… eventful family with lots of kids and a British short hair big sister. He had poop stains and his eyes are stained and his claws are super long. Needless to say he’s not been taken care of incredibly well so maybe the shedding comes from not being brushed? But he also feels less soft than Gizmo and has a bunch more fur… what do you guys think?

Long coated Devon? Meet Renfield!

This is my baby boy Renfield, who really goes by Ren Ren or stinky butt lol.

I adopted him about three years ago as a 12 week old kitten. He was from a hoarding situation that got busted so he’s a little quirky.

I was told he was a Devon Rex mix, and he definitely has the big ears and curly fur. Only thing is that his fur is getting longer the older he gets lol. I’m debating whether he needs a shave/haircut? He’s clearly not pedigree or breed standard my any means, and I just wonder if it might make him more comfy!

Obligatory kitten and current pictures below! As you can see his coat is crazy and always going through some sort of new phase lol

Favorite Devon Rex Merchandise

Hope this is okay. We got our little Izzy a month ago, and I want to get something Devon Rex themed for my wife and kids. I’ve done some looking (boy, is there a lot of Sphynx stuff mixed in with my searches), but thought I’d reach out to the community to see what treasures you’ve found. Got anything you love that might be available for me to get?

Are any of your Devons on Atopica for allergies?

Editing to add since it's helpful reference: we've done diet trials, and she still was reactive while on hydrolyzed protein :( We switched her to a limited ingredient rabbit-based food at the end of last year and she is still reactive when not actively on steroids. We also did environmental allergy testing (which, I know, isn't super reliable) just in case.

My girl tapered off her steroids completely about 2 weeks ago and has been on only Atopica since, and her skin is getting bad again 😭 I'm hoping it's just a rebound time where her body is getting used to not having the steroids, and the Atopica is building up? She has been on it since June but has also been on the steroids with it up until tapering off 2 weeks ago
