Neighborhood Safety Alert: Sexual Assault by Man on Moped

Women walking/ running in Williamsburg, please be careful. A man followed me on his moped before assaulting me.

Last night (Tuesday, Aug. 18) around 7:54 p.m., I was running near Humboldt & Skillman when a man on a moped followed me for about half a block while riding on the sidewalk. He then came up behind me, reached under my running shorts, grabbed my bare butt, and sped off.

He continued down Humboldt and turned right onto Jackson. I tried to run after him to get a photo, but he was already too far away on the moped to get a clear picture.

I'm sharing this because the fact that he followed me before doing it makes me concerned this may not have been an isolated incident. Please be aware of anyone on a moped following closely behind you or riding alongside you on the sidewalk.

If anyone witnessed this around 7:54 p.m. Tuesday, has exterior/security camera footage along Humboldt, Skillman or Jackson around that time, or has experienced something similar involving a man on a moped in the neighborhood, please DM me. I'm particularly interested in anything that could help identify the rider or moped.

Please be careful out there.

True North Rescue 🚩🚩🚩

Please beware of True North Rescue. They are not a registered non-profit. They lost their status a long time ago and have been listed as “pending” for many years, which makes them a for profit organization.

They bring dogs from other states every single weekend and rely on good, honest humans to act as fosters for free until until they sell the dogs for $500+ each.

This is a business. The owners are “faceless”. The person in charge of its finances is in Florida and was allegedly involved in fraud a while ago.

New York already has thousands of dogs in shelters and rescues that desperately need homes. When organizations keep bringing large numbers of additional dogs into the city from other states, it is fair to ask whether that approach is actually helping address the local rescue crisis, or contributing to an increasingly systemic problem.

There are many established, transparent rescue organizations doing incredible work. Please do your homework before adopting or fostering.

Dog Possibly Poisoned

My sister's dog is in the ER with suspected liver problems due to possible toxin exposure. He got sick after a walk down Java street a few days ago. Started vomiting, stopped eating, terrible.

Has anyone had any recent issues with their doggos after a walk that included Java street? I'm wondering if someone is lacing stuff. His walkers are pretty good at not letting him eat random stuff on the sidewalks, but it maybe might have happened that day.

Edit - That day the walk was down Java to Franklin, and then to Box St and back. So more than just Java street.

DOT Survey Changes to Grand St and Metropolitan Ave

A flyer caught my attention, sharing with the netizens if you haven't seen it. If you live, and/or work in the area you may have an opinion about what happens to these streets.

>NYC DOT is studying possible changes to Grand Street and Metropolitan Avenue between Union Avenue and the Metropolitan Avenue Bridge. The study is looking at whether Grand Street could become one-way eastbound and Metropolitan Avenue could become one-way westbound.

Take the survey. Visit the project page.

L Train this Morning

Who else experienced this? Was stuck for 30 min between Lorimer and Bedford. Kicked out at Bedford, smelled like thick smoke in the tunnel. Scrambled to find an e-bike to get to work.

Any word on if everyone is ok?

Local propane tank exchange?

Anyone know somewhere in Williamsburg (or Greenpoint/Bushwick) that does propane tank exchanges? Is Home Depot the only option?

Maspeth Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table

I started the Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual after I started putting stuff outside that my family did not want anymore and we couldn't sell on the Marketplace. I noticed the items would disappear and my neighbors would bring items to replace them. My friend who helps shut ins in Glendale brings over whatever food she has left and leaves that on the table for people to take who visit my mutual aid table.

Thursday August 6th, I received 6 deliveries of donations (clothes, food, toys, housewares, books, DVDs). By Saturday August 8th the table is empty.

Items that are in high demand:

FOOD FOR PEOPLE OR PETS

CLOTHES

TOILETRIES

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

DIAPERS FOR BABIES & ADULTS

TOYS

BACK PACKS, LUNCH BOXES & POCKET BOOKS

Books really don't go on my table, so when I get a donation of them I wait a few days then I bring them down to the Little Free Library in PS 153's school yard.

Donations can be dropped off, and you can take what you need 24 hours a day & 7 days a week:

5938 60TH ROAD, MASPETH

Donations can be dropped off at certain businesses during business hours. Just label them Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table.

ASSEMBLYMAN STEVEN RAGA'S OFFICE, 60-14 QUEENS BLVD., CELLAR, WOODSIDE

COOK'S ARTS & CRAFTS SHOPPE, 80-09 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

SCHWILLE-D'ANGELO FUNERAL HOME, 66-32 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

STATE SENATOR JOSEPH ADDABBO'S OFFICE, 66-85 73RD PLACE, MIDDLE VILLAGE

HARISCH STUDIOS, 57-44 MYRTLE AVE., 2ND FLOOR, RIDGEWOOD

For people who cannot donate in person I created an Amazon Wishlist:

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/JY7U8QQZ8BBU?REF\_=wl\_share

Thank you for all donations. And if you are near the Maspeth/Ridgewood border and are in need please check out table and take what you need. No questions asked. Please spread the word. Thanks.

Potential Tetas Scam????

So I think there was a post yesterday about someone selling Frozen Tetas in Bushwick - they’ve since deleted their Reddit account + all comments + the Venmo account I donated to. I am just wondering if anyone else is seeing the same…I reported to Venmo as a scam in case they try and resurface. What a bummer & such a terrible use of sympathy.

In case they come back, wanted to post here as a warning!

Frozen yogurt spot on Bedford?

About a month or two ago a new frozen yogurt spot popped up with signage on like Bedford and S1. They’ve posted hiring signs but no movement since. Currently wondering if I’ll be able to enjoy a nice local sweet treat (hopefully without maddening lines) before summer ends. Anyone got the scoop?

McCarren Park, missing necklace — $1,000 reward

Hi everyone, I’m really hoping someone can help me find a necklace I lost Wednesday 8/12/26 around 8 PM at McCarren Park Track.

I believe I lost it near the southwest corner of the turf by the starting chute, (could be somewhere walking toward the Bedford Ave L station).

It’s a thick, flat gold chain with an Italian horn (pepper-shaped) charm. I attached a photo, although the smaller necklace wrapped around it in the picture is not the one I’m looking for.

This is a family heirloom, it was my Nonna's who passed a long time ago, so it means a lot to me and I’m honestly heartbroken that I lost it. I’m offering a $1,000 cash reward for its return.

If you found it or saw anything that might help, please DM me or call/text Jenny at (203) 945-8953.

I know it’s a long shot, but I’d be incredibly grateful for the community's help. Thanks everyone!
