Someone else posted their recently read fics and it gave me lots of new reading material, so I figured maybe I would share some that I have enjoyed! All MSR because they deserve to be together etc. If you have things I should read, comment them! X-Files fanfic is apparently my ADHD hyperfixation of the month 😂 There are such good writers in this fandom, I swear. Can I travel back in time and smack Chris Carter (I do love you, Chris, I'm sorry, I'm a potter too, let's hang out and throw clay) on the back of the head with some of these ideas?
What Now? by Skinfull - Mulder and Scully meet prior to being assigned as partners
The Accident by Little_Earthquakes - Maggie Scully gets in an accident and is in a coma. Mulder is there to support Scully, but also has to figure out his relationship with her brother.
Literally anything I’ve read so far by tatooedlaura. They’re all older so maybe they’re well-known but I had never read any and I’m obsessed. The Forgetting Series, Luck and Stubborness, and all 4 parts of the “Life” series are so good.
Amish Country by Lolabeegood - an oldie but goodie that someone previously mentioned to me, Mulder and Scully go undercover in an Amish community to track down a rapist.
Fragile Balance by thursdayinspace - I know others have recommended it but it's recently completed and I just loved it so much! Mulder ends up with supernatural powers while trying to solve a case. Read it if you’ve been putting it off.
Starlight, Love, and Other Unexplained Phenomena by heartbash - S6/7 friends-to-lovers fic, someone recommended it to me when I was asking for recs a few weeks ago and I loved it.
Hantavirus by MSR_Pusher - I'm glad I didn't find this until it was nearly complete. LOVED it, so good, 10/10. Also love many of the other fics by this author!
Teacher's Pet by Fandomme - WIP, Mulder leaves the FBI after the X-Files were closed and moves to England to pursue an advanced degree. Scully gets into trouble and his solution to protect her is to bring her there with him. I've really enjoyed this one so far (they've also got a series of little one-shots called I Don't Know; First Base that I've been enjoying). The only thing I don't like is that the author references some ex-wife of Mulder who "came out as gay and is now a man" in like everything they've written which is a little odd and makes me feel like I missed some lore or something 😂
One Small Step by CultureisDarkBeer - WIP, Mulder is on a new case and low-key "seeing" the detective in charge but thank god for Maggie Scully, the voice of reason. Also just binged the infamous podcast-mentioned The Complete and Utter Agony of Finding Happiness by the same author.

Looking for recommendations for a post Existence fix it fic. I’ve read a few and the characterization is often super off, which makes it hard to get into.
I know that a lot of folks recommend the Terra Firma series, but it just feels so saccharine sweet, not true to the broader X-Files universe. Have also tried Prufrock’s Love fics and while they’re super imaginative and the characterization is great they are REALLY dark.
Looking for something that’s X-Files and leaves you with a bit of hope in the end!
Can’t remember where I read it but Mulder is ill and doesn’t want to wake Scully because she was pissed off. He nearly dies from a burst appendix.

Mulder and Scully are no longer together and it’s because he believes she betrayed him in some way AFTER they were in a relationship while still working on the X-Files. They have a child and share custody. They coparent but he is cold and not friendly to Scully. All contacts revolves around their child. Scully and the child are threatened and have to go into hiding because of Mulder’s work on a recent case. They are attacked in Scully’s home when their child calls Mulder crying about bad guys hurting mommy. (Scully still works for the FBI but at Quantico.) Mulder is placed with them for protection at his insistence to stay with his child. They are placed in a house in the middle of no where together for the first time in a long time. They are there for an extended period. Mulder somehow comes to realize he was lied to about her betrayal and begins to see the error in his ways and the family he could’ve had. Somewhere in the story Mulder accidentally sees a small kit (baby fox) tattoo that he didn’t know she had in honor of Mulder and their kid. Give ANGSTY ANGSTIEST OF ANGST to MSR.

Yinz, my vacation was wonderful but at night, I could not wait to curl up into bed and keep reading this!

First, I love a novel-length fic AND a case file so I was ready to enjoy it. However it was better plotted and written than some actual published, bound fiction I have read and the case kept me puzzled until the very end.

I thought the characterizations were quite good, and although I don't love angst, it was truly used to move the plot forward and culminate in the characters' experiences and growth through the story.

I absolutely loved that the character of Kresge was fleshed out from his brief show appearances and although I am a major MSR stan and the idea of "other" makes me wince, I just loved him and his backstory so much.

As a mom, the casefile was a heartbreaker and difficult to read without getting into my feelings, but I thought the author did an incredible job. She took what the Emily and A Christmas Carol episodes laid as the foundation and just built a whole effin MANSION. Truly spectacular.

I hope this encourages others who haven't read it to check it out!
Hi Phriends! My fascination with the Backrooms stories has been reignited by the recent movie, and it got me thinking Mulder would be all over that. Has anyone come across any fanfic crossovers between XF and the backrooms? I tried looking on ao3 to no avail. Any recs welcome and celebrated and will be devoured immediately 😂💜👽

It’s a cold, rainy Monday where I am. I feel like a Per Manum flashback-related MSR could improve this situation. Something first-timey. In my head, it happened (somehow) after Mulder said, “Dont give up on a miracle.” Do you have any recommendations?
You know (you know!) Mulder said something wordy and romantic to Scully. This guy is such a mess but he’s an optimist too. After everything he’s been through he has hope. Why? Scully was his miracle, I think.
Something he said that lonely night tilted the balance. And so that’s the bridge that leads Scully to tell him she’s tired of fighting the world, while also trying to ignore her feelings. All she has to say is “stay with me.” 🥺
