Looking for a spellslinger commander

i’ve been playing commander for around 1.5 years and i realized all my decks lean heavily into creatures

so much that my pod makes a bit fun of me for it lol

current decks are:

  • [[Satya, Aetherflux Genius]]: midrange aggro
  • [[Cayth, Famed Mechanist]]: blink + lots of small token creatures
  • [[Camellia, the Seedmiser]]: aristocrat combo

for my next deck i want to go in a very different direction and build a proper spellslinger deck

ideally:

  • plays a lot at instant speed
  • low creature count
  • interactive / tricky play patterns
  • not long turns
  • a color combination that is not jeskai nor golgari, to try something new
  • bonus points if the commander is less common or the build itself is unconventional

would love recommendations

Improving Camellia, the Seedmiser

Hey guys,

I’m building a [[Camellia, the Seedmiser]] deck focused on Foods and Squirrels, you can check the deck here (tags enabled):

https://moxfield.com/decks/2tgkwclk70SR6hbDoF2tIw

My pod usually plays around bracket 3 with no game changers, so that’s the power level I’m aiming for. The problem is that after a lot of playtesting the deck feels pretty underwhelming. By turn 7-8 I’m usually still not presenting much of a threat.

It feels like I spend too many resources setting up Foods, making Squirrels, and distributing counters with Camellia, but the payoff is too slow.

I can see token doublers like [[Parallel Lives]] and [[Doubling Season]] helping a lot, but they’re pretty expensive.

I’m also considering adding more tutors like [[Chord of Calling]] or [[Finale of Devastation]] to find cards like [[Ygra, Eater of All]], [[Chatterfang, Squirrel General]], or [[Hazel of the Rootbloom]] more consistently.

Do you guys think Camellia can realistically hang at that power level, or is she just too slow compared to commanders like Ygra, Hazel, or Chatterfang?

Any suggestions or cuts would be appreciated. I really like the idea of making a less popular commander work.
