Talking the Talk vs Walking the Walk
If the amount of people complaining online about this right now, had actually bought physical discs this generation, we wouldn't be here.
Feels like just a bunch of virtue signaling from people that mainly bought digital games, while claiming they love physical media lol
I'm seeing posts from friends of mine in these groups, who I know for a fact have been buying ONLY digital games for this generation, claiming they're abandoning Playstation now
Truth is, people weren't buying physical discs in any meaningful numbers, so they are stopping making them. It sucks. But it's understandable.
So instead of clinging to the past of physical game discs, I'm focusing on pushing and calling for legislation to strengthen and update consumer protection laws for digital purhases.
That's what I'll be focusing on now.
Sadly, Physical Discs aren't coming back. Because not nearly enough people buy them. So now, let's focus on making sure that when we DO buy digital, we get DRM-free forever versions and not just purchasing a license to play the game.
The future is all digital. It is what is it. That doesn't mean we can't be pushing for better consumer protections and rights for our digital purchases.
StopKillingGames is a good starting point but not nearly enough. The Anti-Competetive class-action lawsuits against Sony right now are also good starts. The one in the UK for 2 Billion looks promisimg.
But this goes beyond Games. It's digital books, movies, shows, comics, music, audio books etc.
We need to keep pushing for more rights and better digital consumer protection practices from ALL companies, Sony included. That only happens through lawsuits and legislation from congress though.
