Just finished the show for the first time. Thought I’d give my thoughts on it

I feel like many of these could be individual posts, but I’m consolidating it to one to not spam the sub

-My favorite episodes were probably the underwater episode, the Bea backstory episode, Bea’s funeral, and the last 2 episodes

-The Hank episode was the only episode I disliked. Was kind of annoyed that the moral of the episode was “If guys in power are accused of assault, don’t poke the bear (as Todd quite literally says)” and that THAT was what catalyzed Diane heading to Cordovia. Suddenly, everyone’s turning against Diane and sending her death threats, and it’s treated like the biggest deal ever

But, I feel like the episode is kind of… glossed over after that. We did get one throwaway line in an episode after about Diane getting sent death threats, but I feel like the whole thing was ignored beyond that

Plus, there was that one line in another episode where BoJack said something like “celebrities will get arrested for murder, just not rape”. Why is that one line more effective at conveying the Hank episode’s message than the actual Hank episode?

Also, I feel that the episode doesn’t go with everyone turning on BoJack FAST when his allegations come out, and they do turn out to be true. Didn’t Hank just go on the news and lie by saying “I didn’t do it 🥺”, and everything was hunky dory for him? I don’t know. The episode felt both rushed and mean spirited to me

-Did hear about the whole only one fuck per season thing before watching. Always looked forward to hearing them

-The intro’s great. Love how the intro sequence evolves as the show goes on

-Loved most of the references, the animal
puns of real brands or media, and the needle drops

-Most of the Todd and Mr Peanut Butter plots were fine. Liked the whole plot with Peanut Butter and Woodchuck running for governor. But, it felt like it could get a bit excessive at times

-MSNBSea was unfortunately a weak point for the show for me. Like Tom (I think that’s the whale anchor’s name) and him being an anthro humpback, but it being a news network that is zany and always has bloopers on the air got old REALLY fast. I could only stand Tom yelling at Randy so many times before it ticked me off and took me out of the scene

-Probably a nitpick for many, but none of the electric eels in the show were accurate. I think all of them looked like yellow or blue morays, when they look nothing like that IRL. Morays aren’t electric. Electric eels are a completely different species. Just felt disappointing when they did have some decent representation for animals like axolotls, barnacles, and proboscis monkeys

-The show sometimes had an issue with being a bit too obvious with its messaging or humor. Again, MSNBSea was a major offender there

Felt like the abortion episode was a good balance between humor and a somewhat serious topic. But, something about the feminism episode just felt weirdly inorganic

I did like the show a lot. The main plot with BoJack was probably its strong suit, although I understand why the sub plots are there to dampen the blow of how depressing BoJack’s life can be. Sometimes, the humor landed very well. Other times, it got a tad annoying, but not nearly enough to ruin the show

At least they seemed to tone down the cutaways after season 1. There was way too many of them in the first episode, which wasn’t even that bad. But, still. I’m glad not every episode was that cutaway heavy.

Hate Minecraft’s golden dandelion

The golden dandelion is one of the only Minecraft features I outright hate. I’ll still use it in my worlds, but I think its execution is annoyingly awful. I’ll try to be brief, because it is JUST one block

What does the golden dandelion do?

When fed to a baby mob, it’ll cause the baby to stay young forever, but this can be reversed with a second golden dandelion

The use of the block is great

But, I think the execution of it, and the way you get it is awful. Let me explain

Texture

It’s just a retextured dandelion. That’s lazy, especially for it being introduced in a drop where it was the only new block

Not to mention that Minecraft has no shortage of yellow flowers. Normal dandelions, sunflowers, and wildflowers. Wildflowers were added not even a year before golden dandelions, and we just had to get an even yellower version of a yellow flower afterwards

If they had to make it a dandelion, they couldn’t even change the petals to look puffy like a white dandelion. Maybe some golden particles around it to look like cypsellae (loose dandelion seeds). No. Just change the pixels on the regular dandelion texture

Obtaining The Golden Dandelion
It’s just gold, and a dandelion

I’ve seen some players say golden dandelions help “add use to older features”, and I’m here to tell you that’s not true

It adds use to gold and dandelions, which aren’t exactly begging for new uses. Gold’s been pretty useful since the Nether update, and dandelions already are jacked when it comes to flowers

Their uses before:

-Yellow dye

-Bee pollination

-Saturation suspicious stew

-Can be fed to rabbits

4 uses already. And, before you say, “Being able to be fed to rabbits shouldn’t count, because rabbits are useless!” Don’t you think that’s a whole other issue they should address? They remodeled rabbits in this same drop, but ignored that hides and feet are mostly useless after over a decade of being in the game?

Anyways, my point is is that golden dandelions are way too easy to get, and require things you can get in any biome. They don’t require you to actually play the game and explore much

Too Many Gold Plants
Minecraft has golden:

-Apples
-Melons
-Carrots
-Dandelions

Don’t you think 4 golden plants is overkill? Mojang should’ve stopped at carrots

This brings me to my next point

Colossal Missing Potential

I’ve already argued that being able to make mobs babies forever isn’t something you should just get with gold and a dandelion. I think there are SO many better alternatives Mojang could’ve picked, that I still think go with the item’s focus on eternal youth

-Something made with lapis, as lapis is a neglected ore, and is magical, just like eternal youth

-Glistering melons, another golden plant that’s only useful for one potion. Casting glistering melons as the eternal youth consumable instead of golden dandelions would’ve helped round out glistering melons, and encourage exploring jungles, mineshafts, etc. Plus, human kids like watermelons, so it thematically fits

-Something made with resin, as the pale garden was underdeveloped, and resin’s like amber, which preserves life, like the golden dandelion does

-Something obtained via axolotls somehow, as they already have built in eternal youth with their neoteny, and are really only useful as water wolves

-A new sniffer plant

But then, I’ve heard the rebuttal for the latter again and again

“If you lock the golden defection behind sniffers, no one will want to use them, and that’ll be a huge barrier for kid players that just want their pigs to be babies and look cute forever”

Why should eternal youth be dirt (or, I guess gold nugget) cheap? Sniffers would only provide an initial burden by needing to search for the eggs, but, after you get enough sniffers, you’ll have several golden dandelions

One More Nitpick for this Stupid Flower

The animation for using it on baby animals is so anticlimactic. It just reuses the green sparkles used for things like bonemealing crops. It just feels like you’re feeding them any regular food item, which is extremely lame

TLDR

Golden dandelions have a great use that I think is ruined by the texture being lazy, the way you get them being too easy, and the way you get them failing to expand on neglected features that would line up with eternal youth better than gold and a dandelion
