The real cruelty of this scene just hit me

The real cruelty of this scene just hit me

Diane and Guy are doing their damnedest to bring Jeremiah Whitewhale down. And it turns out that Jeremiah is a monstrous trillionaire who will happily murder a man who is disruptive within his corporation.

So the question that hit me just now, remembering this scene: why didn’t Jeremiah just murder Diane and Guy? They’re right there, they’re arguably doing more than that murder victim ever did against Jeremiah, and Jeremiah wanted to send the world a message through their video. Why wouldn’t he kill these two while the video is being recorded, then post the video himself as a blatant message to the world that murder is legal for rich people?

The answer (apart from the fact that Diane is a main character in a fictional story, and I will metaphorically spit in the face of anyone who tries saying that in the comments) is that murdering Diane would be too easy for her. Jeremiah wanted her to live in this world she finds so much fault in, to suffer knowing that all her efforts are futile, that he won and will continue to win, forever stomping his booted foot on Diane’s face for eternity.

Would Todd have succeeded at his rock opera if it weren’t for Bojack?

My understanding of that plot is that Todd is more upset at the fact that Bojack would do something deliberately bad to him to keep him from growing as a person because having his around makes him feel less insecure in comparison. But would Todd have actually succeeded even if Bojack didn’t sabotage him? Personally I feel like if Todd could get so easily distracted from something potentially life changing it would be very unlikely for him to succeed at it, if we’re assuming it isn’t one of his whacky adventure bites where against all odds he somehow fails upwards.

The Torment of Bojack

Painted with acrylic on canvas. 4ft x 3ft
Modeled after Michelangelo’s version of “The torment of St Anthony”
This was suggested to me by a fellow redditor months ago. I can’t find the messages between us so if it was you comment so I can edit the post! I’ve been working on this since February. It was my second attempt at doing this painting. I tried to throw as many Bojack references as I could through out it. The ones I want to point out either because it was fun to do or so other people don’t miss them are these:
(SPOILERS BELOW)
-The shoe falling off the bird. I found this comment posted 6 years ago by u/Librablu3 on this post. It says “Apparently in some cultures a bird entering your house is an omen someone is going to die. Also read that the birds shoe falling off is a reference to the idiom ‘waiting for the other shoe to drop’ which came to mean ‘waiting for something you knew was coming’”
-The letter from Hollyhock
-S6 E12 ‘Xerox of a Xerox’ Biscuits Braxby asks bojack during his interview “How do you feel when you see Sarah Lynn’s face on a billboard with the slogan ‘I’d die for a Pepsi’”
-Doll
-Planetarium
-All the people in this painting are from the ‘The View from Halfway Down’
Last slide was my first time trying these renaissance recreations of my favorite shows. It was done is 2023 started a couple of weeks after I had gotten a TBI. I thought I couldn’t get better at painting, (I thought I had capped on how much I could teach myself) and I’m proud now that I feel like this one I just did came out so much better.

Rumor has it he’s still waiting for that apology.

The literal "elephant in the room" gag is top-tier writing, and the background environmental storytelling makes it a masterpiece.

I painted the Tennis Ball wall art from Mr. Peanutbutter's house.

Hi! I've been on a mission to recreate paintings I find in cartoons. This one is 12x24" acrylic and Sharpie on canvas.

The View From Halfway Down Changes Perspectives [Spoiler for Season 6]

While reading the poem, I realized that it changes perspectives.
It first starts with third-person, only using it twice. It focuses more on what's going on with his surroundings. I believe this suggests Bojack has a great disconnect from himself especially after he relapsed.
Then it uses second-person twice when he starts falling off of the cliff and he starts to come more to his senses
Finally, it uses first-person 6 times. He's fully in the moment now; he's reconnected with himself as he realizes what's about to happen to him
(Also, at this time, Will Arnett's voice sounds less like Butterscotch and more like BoJack horseman. This is another way of conveying his awareness and regret of the situation)

I hope you understand what I mean by this, I don't think I explained it well.

Hot take: You don't have to excuse BoJack to like him, and you also don't have to hate BoJack to not excuse his actions

I personally really like BoJack. He's a shitty person who does shitty things and while there are other factors, for his own actions, he is mostly to blame. Yet I cannot bring myself to hate or even dislike him. Throughout the show, despite every horrible thing he does, I still find myself ultimately rooting for him to get better, because I've grown attached to him and his capacity for goodness. Simply, I like him a lot. But that said, I don't endorse, excuse, or admire any of his actions. That's even why I want him to change. The things he does are unforgiveable by those he's done them to, and for moral reasons that decrease harm, should not be idolized or excused. But even then, why do I and many others still like him? Well, he's funny, relatable, tragic, and ultimately has shown the willingness to change. Rooting for BoJack isn't JUST rooting for him specifically but for the concept that people in rock bottom who drag others down don't have to stay that way. I am attached to BoJack yet I never felt the need to make him seem better than he is, and I am fully aware that he is a bad person but I don't think that takes away his right to change and his right to dignity as a person. Basically what I'm saying is, someone can do bad things but that doesn't mean you are morally obligated to condemn them as othered and undeserving of any empathy of any kind. Just because BoJack is awful doesn't mean he should be exiled. The same can be said for several other characters like him. And, you can like someone without them being morally pure or admirable. It is human nature to connect with people who don't match your personal moral compass, sometimes harmfully so, and that's fine as long as you don't enable actions that cause verifiable harm. The truth that BoJack is immoral, and the truth that he is likeable and has shown desire to change are not truths that cancel each other out. In fact, for me personally at least, they sort of enhance each other. You can hold those things at the same time without being a bad person yourself.

The Old Sugarman Place

Really liked seeing Bojack’s internal development from grieving Sarah Lynn’s death and coming back home, building this place up and then Diane pulling him back to reality. We do see this later in the series where he always disappears into his nihilistic gaiety after a negative event but this moment in the episode was the cherry on top where viewers for a mere moment can root for Bojack and recognize his self rumination turn into positive self awareness.

The best descision of my life

As a really great fan and struggling with mental health myself, this show helped me a lot.
In the last years I always got better and better. Thanks for this quote.

Quotes from Bojack I regularly use for everyday stuff

When an extra accessory is needed to help an outfit: “DIAAAAANEEE HAVE YOU SEEN MY BANDANA??? THE ONE WITH THE MEAT JUICE STAIN” “is this doing….aaaanything?”

When I have to be diplomatic: “Before the break they said I had to make up with Bojack. But I’m my own dog…..so I’m making up with Bojack” (I know this isn’t the exact quote)

Todd’s phone ringtone - randomly sprinkled throughout the day

Diane: ignores other friend I’M A REALLY GOOD FRIEND - whenever I don’t do what I was meant to but complete something completely different

What do you guys think about the episode about Mr. Penutbutters celeb game show?

For me it’s one of the episodes that really stand out and is probably my second favourite episode of the show.

It was funny, and just an enjoyable episode. I can’t really go into detail because i don’t remember it too well, but i do remember it was nice to watch. What do you guys think about it?

BoJack Horseman x blink-182

“I want Chicken 4 Dayz!”
This is of my favorite episodes for sure. I like how it tastefully addresses the ‘friend or food’ dilemma. Is there anyone else who can’t get enough of ‘Chickens’ or crossovers? I made a silly piece of lyric art and played around with BoJack edits. Long live Becca!

Does Todd ever say the phrase "We're doing a Todd episode!" or something similar?

my bf and i have a running joke where one of us will say "we're doing a ____ episode!" in a californian ish accent when we're planning on doing something exciting or that's been a long time coming. we've always both thought that this originated from an episode of bojack where todd says something along the lines of "we're doing a todd episode!" or "yeah, this is a todd episode!"

i know the episode with the title "hooray! todd episode!" exists, but both of us have a distinct memory of someone saying this phrase and the joke isn't referencing the title. i onltly remembered about the title because i looked it up today to try find a clip of todd saying it, only to not find it... because maybe it never happened? it's entirely possible that the memory is someone from a different show and we're both just mixing it up with the title, but i have no idea what the other show would be and like i say, only remembered the title after looking it up today.

thanks in advance if you know this!!

I’m constantly annoyed with the layout of BoJack’s house.

It seems like his bedroom is behind the kitchen and his office is on the other side of the house. This is basic TV framing.

But they reference it as the opposite. Why do they frame it to look like that!?
