Anyone else lost their Poptimism ?
I've felt it slowly creeping up in the last few years, but I simply can't bring myself to sincerely consider pop music on the same level as alternative, r&b and rock. Mind you, I was a gay teen fighting in the forums for The Fame Monster to be treated seriously amongst my peers. Now I groan anything Gaga makes.
I don't know if it's the rise in K-pop, the manufactured TikTok songs a la ABCDEFU or whoever tf Adela is – but I find myself listening to my friends discuss FLO or Sabrina and I wanna tell them to grow up. It's so nakedly a product for mass consumption made in the capitalist overproduction factory that is giant record labels.
Idk, I just don't hear a soul or find any boundaries being pushed. This is what I saw pop doing. I tried listening to that Slayyyter album but it's just rehashing of Crystal Castles. Same with Brat and its Uffie cosplay. Maybe I'm just 32 and I've lost the ear for it.
Mr. Peanutbutter's closest equivalent is LL Cool J
Every time there's a thread on Mr. Peanutbutter's real world equivalent or who he reminds us of, it's always a white heartthrob from the 90's or a Ryan Reynolds type. I think he's most indebted to black comedic actors like Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and especially LL Cool J.
Mr. Peanutbutter's House is obviously inspired by Sister Sister but also just generally the trend of black sitcoms that were knockoffs of Full House like Hangin' with Mr. Cooper.
But I see him moreso as LL Cool J because they are both known for being incredibly handsome and charismatic, LL Cool J came from hiphop (Peanutbutter was a breakdancer.) Cool J was in a sitcom in the 90s and in the 2010s hosted game shows (HSAC!WDTK?DTKT??LFO!) and Cool J now does these network dramas that go on for 20 seasons like NCIS: LA (Birthday Dad)
I'm not saying that therefore PB is black, no he's a Labrador retriever, but I think the reference is closer to the world of black sitcoms
Should I remove that I'm autistic in my match note?
33M, queer. When you match with me, you get a match note that says "Hey, fyi I'm autistic :)" I just want it out in the open. It would explain my communication style and if we're on a date, you'd get why I don't give much eye contact for instance.
Is it hindering and making people stand back? I haven't gotten a new match in a while. I'm in therapy working through not masking and having breakdowns over hiding myself but if it's just weird social etiquette, or too much too soon then I wanna know. Thank you for reading
Autistic gay bros: does it get better?
I've (33M) been recently diagnosed, it's been pretty obvious my whole life but I've had major depression and that's always taken precedence. I really struggle at gay bars. I can't give eye contact, I have a script in my head for small talk and I get overwhelmed by crowds and always leave within half an hour. Been ghosted by every convo I have on Hinge (which I hear is common) and the few dates I've gone on, I always think turned out great and then I get a message saying I'm a nice guy but they're not interested.
I'm coming on here because in the last year I had been working out so much and masking a lot to the point I had a breakdown. So now I'm just trying to authentically be myself: shy, a bit of a stutter and not very expressive in the face. I'm very funny and I'm so curious about people and I just wanna share time with someone. But I'm at the point where I feel like such a visitor to my species. How is not masking and being yourself going for you?
