Assassin Flavor…?

So… how much potential is there for variety between assassin characters?

I mean it’s kinda in the name. They kill people. I guess the differentiating questions are how they kill people and why they kill people, but at the end of the day… they kill people. And there are really only so many types of characters that would specialize in killing people. As a job.

Am I wrong? I’m just looking for some inspiration on how to make a compelling character for this class. It’s hard to imagine anything other than a morally-gray stone-cold professional killer.

Wealth Domain and 2 Classes (Merchant & Mercenary)

Hello all!

I have a new domain, two new classes, and four subclasses to share that I have been working on related to the theme of "Wealth." I am not a professional by any means, but I do like to think that I have an eye for editing and I want to be as faithful as I can to the spirit of the game and the rules.

This is my first time doing a project like this, so I would appreciate feedback but also please be kind! This is still version 1.0, so things will likely change.

Wealth Domain: Meant to be a roleplay/support focused domain, with a few combat options thrown in. Obviously balance will be based on how much Gold is worth in the campaign, and this does ask GMs to give more thought to the economy of their world.

Merchant Class: Wealth and Grace support-style class based around the fantasy of discovering rare and valuable items while adventuring.

Shopkeeper and Collector Subclasses: Merchant subclasses, one that incentivizes selling items you find and another than incentivizes keeping and using the items you find.

Mercenary Class: Wealth and Valor martial, non-Spellcast tank-style class that includes a built-in reputation system.

Bounty Hunter and Bodyguard Subclasses: Mercenary subclasses, one that helps you bring in marks and another that enables you to cover your allies.

Thank you for taking a look!

Beware Pin Collectors

As a pin collector, I am a bit surprised by the fact that the domain pins are safety pins and not clutch pins. They will not affix to my cork board for my collectible pins, which is what I bought them for… they are also BIG, bigger than I expected (which I guess is neither good nor bad, just larger than most all other of my collectible pins).

I bought 4 of them so I will find a way to pivot… but when they said they were making pins because people wanted pins, I guess I assumed that they figured pin collectors would be the ones wanting them, not pin wearers. Clutch pins can do both, so I’m not sure why they didn’t just do that.

Even more frustrating, I got the Daggerheart logo pin and that one DOES use a butterfly clutch. So I guess that one goes on my pin board alone :/

Where are the Cards in Sallowlands?

I had the realization last night that I have never seen a card on screen in Age of Umbra. I have never seen a card displayed on screen as it was referenced, but what’s more, I have never seen a player pick up a card and say “I want to use this one” or even shuffle through the cards to review their abilities.

You could watch Age of Umbra and not even know the cards exist. Players look down at their character sheet (and I assume the cards) but that looks like every other TTRPG on the screen.

One of the unique parts of Daggerheart (and one of my favorite) is the physical cards with their art always on display. I just worry that by not showing the cards, the Age of Umbra is missing an opportunity to market them. The viewership has been much lower than non-Daggerheart content, so I do think marketing the game should still be a big part of these episodes.

I think this is a symptom of Daggerheart maybe not committing to the cards as much as they could have. The conversation about class feature cards is another example. The Witch did not use her commune feature during the long rest they took at the beginning of the session, which is one of the big benefits of the class, flavor-wise. But in general during combat so far, people are much more likely to make an attack than to use an ability on a card.

I want Daggerheart to succeed and I’m just nervous that one of the best parts of it is being under-utilized, both by the actual play and the broader game.
