How do I change to that distortion sound in a split second like they do in songs?

Hello. Me and a few of my friends are starting a band (just one for fun, as none of us are that good at our instruments lmao) and we're covering the song All Apologies by Nirvana first. However, in the song when it changes to the chorus, it gets distortion on the guitar in a snap moment. How do I do that? Im not that well versed in amps and stuff lol

Okay so basically, im a young lover. Not literally super young but like, ive not been in any actual relationships before (and neither has my boyf). I am dating a boy now and we have been dating for a very short amount of time but we've been getting along incredibly well and hes attached to me pretty much. Anywho, I am used to texting my gal friends (as a female) "goodnight ily" and I was texting my boyf goodnight and said "goodnight ily" without thinking anything about it because, well, i say it to everyone. And then my friend says its weird to say I love you to a partner before 1 month of dating but like... It wasn't anything deep, just the three letters ily 😭😭 and now she has me sooo so stressed that I messed up and hes going to think im a weird freak or something.. am I overthinking this?? I really didnt mean ily on a deep level its just something I say 💔
