iOS devs who conduct interviews - drop your fav go-to questions that trips up candidates

I'm at 5 YoE and prepping for senior roles, and I realized the best learning comes from real questions that actually catch experienced candidates off-guard. Not the "implement LRU cache" kind (everyone preps those), but the nuanced, "wait... actually I'm not 100% sure" questions that separate mid-level from senior thinking.

So if you're on the interviewer side (especially senior hiring managers): drop your favorite tricky iOS question. The ones where:

  • Senior candidates freeze or give half-answers (that's the tell)
  • The surface answer sounds right but misses a critical production edge case
  • It exposes the gap between "I've shipped features" and "I understand the system deeply"
  • It's not about memorization—it's about reasoning under pressure and knowing why systems break
  • Bonus: questions that reveal whether someone has actually debugged production issues or just read blog posts

And for others prepping: this thread should become a vault of real questions people actually ask at Tier-1 companies.

Drop yours! And if you have a follow-up twist that makes it even trickier, include that too.

Bonus points if you share:

  • What the "obvious" wrong answer is (the one a mid-level would confidently give)
  • Why it's wrong (not just "correct answer is X" — the reasoning)
  • What separates a good answer from a staff-level answer
  • What company/level you see this at (FAANG? fintech? enterprise? scale matters)
  • How you follow up when someone fumbles (what redirection questions diagnose the gap?)

Thanks in advance—this is gold for interview prep.

How do you achieve instant 4K/1080p streaming on Nuvio like Netflix?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to get that seamless Netflix/Hotstar experience on my Nuvio TV setup and have a few questions.

My Current Setup:

  • App: Nuvio on TV
  • Addons/Plugins Currently Installed:
    • HD Hub
    • Pengu Play (with auto-play enabled)

What I'm Looking For:

I want to achieve instant streaming with quality content (4K/1080p) - basically click and it just starts playing immediately without waiting, buffering, or searching through tons of dead links. Right now my experience is okay but not quite "Netflix smooth."

Questions:

  1. What addons/plugins are you using to get that instant play experience?
  2. Are you using a debrid service?
  3. What's the actual setup process? Is it complicated or fairly straightforward?
  4. Does it require a paid service or can it work with free addons?
  5. For those using debrid - how noticeable is the difference in speed/reliability compared to free scraper addons like Pengu Play?

Additional Context:

  • Currently using auto-play feature to try and get continuous streaming
  • Want instant playback (1-2 seconds max) without buffering
  • Would prefer 1080p minimum, 4K if possible
  • Willing to pay a small subscription if it significantly improves the experience

Would love to hear what's working best for you guys and any recommendations!

TL;DR: Want Netflix-like instant streaming on Nuvio. Currently using HD Hub + Pengu Play. What should I add to my setup?

Power Outage in Sector 53 - Garmiii

No power since 10 am. I'm in sec 53, golf course road and haven't had any electricity since this morning. Has anyone else experienced the same issue? Are there any known outages in the area?
