Would anyone with Govee lights be interested in testing local LAN support for WizZ Desktop?

Hi everyone! I’m a student developing WizZ Desktop, a small desktop app for controlling WiZ lights. Someone told me they’d love Govee support, so I’ve started looking into it.

I’m exploring Govee’s LAN Control so the integration can communicate with lights on the local network. It’s still experimental and isn’t integrated into the app yet, so I’m looking for a few people who might be willing to help test it when there’s a build to try.

If you’re interested, could you share your Govee model number (SKU) and whether you see a LAN Control option in its device settings? It would also help to know whether you use Windows, Linux, or macOS.

I can’t promise every model will work, but I’d love to find out what’s possible and build this carefully. Thanks!

WizZ Desktop 1.4.0 is out — a redesigned WiZ light controller for Windows and Linux

Hi everyone! I’m happy to share the release of WizZ Desktop 1.4.0, my open-source app for controlling WiZ lights from the desktop.

Compared with version 1.3.5, this release brings a redesigned native interface for Windows and Linux, plus a much more capable Quick Panel: you can move it, snap it to screen edges, and open it from the system tray.

Other new features include routines that can target individual lights or groups, improved controls for color and brightness, favorites, hotkeys, and better tray behavior. The release also includes packages for Windows and Linux (x64 and ARM64), with checksums for download verification.

The screenshots show virtual lights to demonstrate the multi-light features. I’ve also tested the app with my real WiZ bulb.

You can find the downloads and full changelog here:
https://github.com/yvvvl/WizzController/releases/tag/v1.4.0

I’m a student building this project independently, and I’d be very grateful for any support. Donations would help me keep improving the app and maintaining the quality of the project while I continue studying. There’s absolutely no pressure—trying the app, sharing feedback, or reporting bugs is already a big help.

WizZ Desktop v1.3.0 is out! Automatic updates are finally here

Hey everyone!

I'm back with another WizZ Desktop update! Thank you so much for the support and feedback on v1.2.0. It's been really motivating to see people actually using something I've been building in my free time.

One thing I wanted to improve was the update process. Having to download and extract a new ZIP every time wasn't ideal, so I've been working on fixing that.

What's new in v1.3.1:

  • 🔄 Automatic updates: Future Windows updates can now be downloaded and installed directly from the app.
  • 🧪 Stable & Beta channels: Choose which update channel you want to follow in Settings.
  • 🔒 SHA-256 verification: Downloaded updates are checked before installation.
  • 💾 Persistent settings: Your configuration and personal data are preserved between updates.
  • 🛠️ Improved release process: Better automated builds and release packaging.

Important: You'll need to install v1.3.0 manually this time. After that, future updates can be handled from within the app.

WizZ Desktop still controls your WiZ lights locally over your LAN, without relying on cloud services for normal lighting commands.

I'm also continuing to work on the interface and overall desktop experience. There's more I'd like to build, but I'm taking things one release at a time.

Download v1.3.1:
https://github.com/yvvvl/WizzController/releases/tag/v1.3.1

I'm developing this project alongside my university studies, so every bug report, suggestion and GitHub star genuinely helps.

If you've tried the previous version, I'd love to hear how it's working for you and what you'd like to see next.

Thank you again for supporting this little project! ❤️

Wizz Controller!

As you know, I made an app that I've been sharing through this subreddit, and I'd like to hear any suggestions you might have while using the latest version. I have some new features in the works, such as RGBIC compatibility, in collaboration with u/Idkiamaguy645, who has helped me with coding and testing (Thank you so much!). I've also been working on rewriting the UI with Qt instead of Flet to add a quick panel, and at the moment I'm out of ideas! So, if you see any bugs or have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it, either here or on GitHub! Thanks again for using my app and for your support!

WizZ Desktop v1.2.0 is out — local WiZ control for Windows, with a Linux beta

Hi everyone! I’ve released WizZ Desktop v1.2.0, a local desktop controller for WiZ lights.

What’s included:

  • Windows stable release
  • First Linux beta, validated on Ubuntu 22.04 GNOME/Wayland
  • Local LAN control: power, brightness, RGB, white temperature and scenes
  • Quick selection of one, multiple or all lights
  • System tray, single-instance restore and persistent settings
  • Linux installer without sudo: extract the archive and run ./install.sh

Linux global hotkeys are intentionally disabled in this beta until there is a safe, desktop-compatible implementation.

I’d especially appreciate feedback from people using WiZ lights on Linux, other Ubuntu-based distributions, or with multiple bulbs.

Download: https://github.com/yvvvl/WizzController/releases/tag/v1.2.0

(I made an auto updater btw, for next versions just go to settings and check updates :D)

Sorry for the delay, I've been dealing with personal matters and studies! Thank you for your patience, advice, and feedback.

I built WizZ Desktop — a local Windows controller for WiZ lights

Hi everyone!

I’ve just released WizZ Desktop v1.0.0, a Windows desktop application for controlling WiZ lights directly over the local network.

I originally built it because I wanted a faster and more convenient way to control my light while using my PC, without having to open the mobile app every time.

Normal light commands are sent through WiZ’s local UDP protocol, so everyday control does not depend on the cloud.

## Main features

- Local WiZ control over UDP

- Power on/off and toggle

- Independent brightness control

- RGB colors

- Kelvin white temperatures

- Official WiZ scenes

- Device discovery over the local network

- Manual device addition by IP

- Control of one light or all detected lights

- Synchronization with changes made from the WiZ mobile app

- Favorites

- Multi-step routines

- Global Windows hotkeys

- System tray controls

- Double-clicking the tray icon shows or hides the window

- Portable Windows x64 release

## Color Studio

One of the main parts of the app is the new Color Studio.

It includes:

- a perceptual hue/purity palette;

- precise HEX and RGB input;

- separate Kelvin white control;

- independent brightness;

- live or manual application;

- recent colors and presets.

I also discovered that sending a screen RGB color directly to the RGB LEDs of an RGBTW WiZ bulb does not always produce a similar physical color, especially with pastel colors.

Because of that, I added a WiZ-aware conversion layer between the color selected in the UI and the physical RGBTW channels sent to the bulb.

## Other technical challenges

Some of the harder parts of the project were:

- keeping the color picker responsive;

- avoiding excessive UI repaints;

- handling delayed UDP responses;

- removing lights without delayed discovery responses adding them back;

- safely rediscovering removed lights;

- keeping configuration writes safe across multiple threads;

- packaging Python and Flet into a portable Windows application;

- implementing reliable system tray and single-instance behavior.

## Download and source code

GitHub repository:

https://github.com/yvvvl/WizzController

Latest Windows release:

https://github.com/yvvvl/WizzController/releases/latest

The Windows version is portable:

  1. Download the ZIP.
  2. Extract the entire folder.
  3. Run `WizZDesktop.exe`.

Do not move the EXE away from the included DLLs and `data` folder.

## Feedback

I would really appreciate feedback from other WiZ users, especially about:

- how accurately colors work on different WiZ bulb models;

- features you would like to see in a desktop controller;

- useful tray actions or hotkeys;

- discovery behavior on different networks;

- any bugs you encounter.

If anyone is willing to test it with another WiZ model, that would be extremely helpful.

Thanks for taking a look!
