Consistent swallowing

My son’s red ear just got an upgraded tank. Water is clean, and at 80 degrees. He seemed to settle in but he looks to be consistently swallowing. We also find him with just his nose out of the water.

Any concern here or just natural behavior?

My son and I can’t recall if he’s always done this or it’s something new.

302 #8 cylinder fouling

Have a rebuilt 302 with about 3000 miles on it in a 1968 Mustang.

Cylinder 8 plug is more fouled than the rest. Looks to be oil as it’s shiny and doesn’t smell like fuel.

Tried changing spark plug and then wire. Same result.

Compression test on all 8 cylinders the same. Strong holding compression.

Car runs very strong. It was dyno’d do at over 400hp.

I notice no oil burn at all.

What can I test to determine the cause?

One thing I read about was possible PCV valve could be dumping oil vapor directly into cylinder 8 since its connect to the rear base of the carb. Is that possible?

I did have to “smush” the baffles in my valve covers for clearance. I notice oil residue around fill cap and back of PCV valve.

Any help appreciated.
