Plecos and yellow bellied slider turtles
Can my pleco and turtles live together?? It was just a thought I'm not sure but it's not necessary
Although I'm thinking about their tanks needs and eating habits

I'm making a lid out of egg crate for my turtle. I read mixed reviews about putting a heat lamp over it. If I suspend a heat lamp at least a few inches above the egg crate lid, will that be okay, or will it melt?
Hi everyone. I need some advice regarding my turtle's shell. I recently adopted/rehomed her from a previous owner who was not providing proper care, and I strongly suspect she has Shell Rot.
To follow the sub's guidelines, here are her complete husbandry details:
The Issue: Looking closely at her carapace (see the zoomed-in photos), there are rough, pitted lesions and craters. The keratin is eroding in white/grayish patches.
I am currently searching for an exotic vet in my area. As first aid, I have started strict dry docking (warm and dry environment for 22-23 hours a day, water only for feeding/hydrating) and gently cleaning the lesions with diluted chlorhexidine.
Does anyone have experience with shell lesions that look exactly like this? Any additional first-aid advice before her vet appointment?
Thank you! (Photos of the shell, face, limbs, setup, and food are attached).
Getting this out of the way: I have a vet appointment 2 days from now. The vet saw these pictures and suggested I come in but they didn't think that it was an emergency, hence waiting 2 days for an open time slot. They gave me signs to look out for and I'm keeping a close eye on her.
That said, have any of you seen a similar injury? Any experience with treating this type of injury? Looking up turtle broken finger has mostly gotten advice on what to do if a turtle bites a human finger, not so much about turtles having a broken finger.
And yes, he has Reptisun T5 HO.
My girl is 22 years old and recently moved her to bigger tank and got her a above tank basking platform. Sadly though it’s been 2 weeks and she still has not went all the way up the ramp. Today I put some food on the ramp and she went up far enough to get the food and then slid back down into the water. She seems to be slipping in the bottom part of the ramp. Any suggestions? Should I add more water? Any something to ramp to stop her from slipping?
Meet Mr/Ms Watson not sure on gender currently. I got this turtle off of a man on 125st in Harlem, Ny 3/10/26. I like to consider him a rescue 🐢 because idk what would have happened to it if I didn’t acquire it. I was happy and so were my daughters. I did lots of research and still decided to add tank mates (4 diamond tetras/ a clown pleco) RIP 🪦 to them after a week. So I decided no tank mates ever again. I’m proud to say it seems to be happy and thriving and loving its space. We have our daily meets at the tank and it enjoys sleeping on the java fern I’ve attached to the driftwood. I feed it green pellets, dried shrimp and dried mealworms. I would like to give it fruits and vegetables but I’m unsure if they’re age/size matters. I took a pic of it next to the tap water bottle to show how small it is. I look forward to saving up for a bigger and better tank setup in the near future. This is just temporary as it is so small and I know it will definitely grow.
Guys I am really clueless when it comes to filtration and stuff. I have had two turtles for 15 years and I’ve tried so many filters and I just do my best trying to make it work but I fully clean my tank 100% quite often to maintain cleanliness.
What can I use for a filter that will be good to help ? Any tips or advice is welcomed
What are these little yellow things? They arent moving or anything but after attempting to feed Tortuga kale and some brine shrimp I checked on her today to see this.
This is one of my peacock sliders :) She is 1 year old , and Her name is Dulce (sweet/treat) and she honors her name with her sweet personality . I just love her and wanted to share.
My little cousin found a turtle in a bag full of crawfish and she decided to take care of it. She doesn’t have it in a proper enclosure and was curious to see what this is on its arm? I’m not sure if it’s something health related or gunk stuck on its body? I tried wiping it with a small wet napkin but was too scared to be rough with it so I’m here to see what you guys think it is? I’m helping her get things that the turtle actually needs like a proper tank, heating/basking system, but need to see what that is first just in case the turtle is sick.
Does anybody know of any floating basking platforms that stick to the tank walls and are sturdy? I got this rock basking platform and it seems to get the job done but I know my turtle struggles to get on top since it wobbles A LOT. I also hate the cheapy foamy feeling it has. I don’t want him stressed out or limit his basking time because of this so any help is appreciated!!
My friend upgraded her turtle tank and offered me her old 125g tank/stand & FX6 filter at a great price! Uploading here because I am very proud of it. It’s half sand & half rock to satisfy both me and my boyfriend, what is your recommendation for cleaning the poo out of the sand? I’m eager to see how much Swimmy will grow now that she’s in a bigger space!
*I am aware there are some problems with her shell, we have been to the vet and hopefully corrected any future problems, but the damage is already done*
I'm looking for suggestions for a good quality vacuum and pump for Houdini's tank.. he's in a 40ish gallon tank and the hand pump thing isn't cutting it anymore. He has decorative rocks at the bottom and I can't get his tank 100% clean. I know i need a better filter and basking spot too and that's in the works.
Someone left this guy in the loading dock a few stores down from where I work (I work at a big chain pet store). I took him home to try to re-home him or find a rescue since our shelters here in Los Angeles are overrun with them and euthanized after a week so I didn't want my coworker to take him there. I have lots of reptile experience but of our dry land friends. I borrowed a 10 gallon with 4 gallons of water as there's a crack in the middle and got a 75 watt halogen bulb. I put some minnows in there and he's actively interested as well.
Hi everyone, I have two red-eared turtles. They're almost two years old, though I still don't know their gender. I have a 40-liter aquarium with three lights, a heater, a large bridge, and a filter. I read a few posts and started to worry that my turtles might start fighting. They don't fight at the moment, and they've only bitten each other a couple of times when they mistook each other for food. Can you tell me if they can live together peacefully? I also had a question: why are they so afraid of me? As soon as I pick them up, they scratch, and the larger turtle starts biting. I've tried to get them used to being handled, but they don't seem to care. They also have white spots on their shells, and the whitest scales rarely peel off. I don't understand what it is either, and I'm really afraid they're sick, but they're acting completely normal, never had any problems with their appetite, they're active, their eyes are clear. I can't brush them off their shells either.
