Need help remember something I read about regarding turtles.
My aunt has 3 res turtles that are being neglected though I thought about keeping one to give it a better life but I have a tiny room and have very limited space. Reddit users have told me that 50 gallons is too small for res but the rule of thumb is 10 gallons per inch of shell and they’re all 5 inches long even tho we had them for years. One of them is an older female we had for over 13 years and shes also like only barely 6 inches long in shell size.
I find that they’re small for their age and I think due to neglect, they are being affected by some condition I remember reading about it here yesterday but cant recall the name of the condition. It has something to do with improper lighting. I would like to do more research on this condition but in order for me to even adopt, ill have to understand rather or not they’re size are being affected or is 5 inches normal size for an adult female res turtle? Will they continue to grow in proper living conditions? Im doing research on places to help rehome them but my aunts son wants to keep one and would still like to share the info with him.
TLDR; Need help remembering the name of a condition that affects turtles growth due to improper lighting.
