unexpected life in new aquarium

Hi all, I'm new to the hobby and today I spotted some unexpected life in my first aquarium. To me it looks like a baby nerrite snail, but I'm not experienced enough to be sure. Would you guys mind double checking for me? I dont want to leave something in the aquarium that could cause headaches later.

Getting so discouraged 🫤

This is my first tank. The plants are going on 3 months old but the tank itself has been cycled for a year (I was late to the party). The only thing doing well is my betta, and I love him for it, I really do.

I've tried amano shrimp (2 separate batches of 4-5 and I only saw 1 in there recently) for the bio-film and algae but they don't seem to be helping much at all- it's taking over the tank.

I have a hygger 978-18w light on the 24/7 setting but on at 7 am and off at 9 pm. I do not overfeed - I only have the 1 betta so I feed him exact amounts daily.

All advice is welcome.

What am I doing wrong?

Advice needed. What started as a small hobby has become one of the things I love most. But I can't get my plants to thrive. My betta, snails and shrimp are doing amazing but I feel im failing with the plants. Help please

Adding aqua soil to established tank

Hello everyone. This is my 55 gallon that has been running for about 8 months now. Highish tech with co2.

This weekend I am moving houses and will have to transfer this tank to the new place. This tank was my first, and after learning some things I would like to try out another scape, using more of the plants and styles I like. My question is this: will adding aqua soil to the new aqua scape ruin my cycle and potentially harm my fish? And is there a safest way to do so? I will be using the same filter, some of the same hardscape, some of the sand, and most of the same plants. Will the beneficial bacteria I have be able to handle the ammonia load of adding fresh aqua soil? I should add that I have a second tank on standby that I will be able to build my new aquascape in, but am trying to move everything over in one day.

Stocking is 7 pristella tetras, 4 blue neon rasboras, 5 rummynose tetras, a bunch of Amanos, cherry shrimp, and snails. Plan to add more after next tank is established.

Thank you for the help!

Do I need to take it all down?

After doing some “research” I’ve discovered some (mold?) on my driftwood, I’m not sure what to do or if I have to take the tank apart, any information or insight might help me out, thanks in advance.

Same tank. 4 days apart

Little shocked at how well this tank has developed within 4 days.
More shocked at the growth of the plants.
Might’ve bit off more then I can chew with this one haha

Snail chowing down on all my plants

Okay so I am guessing this is not a mystery snail like I was told? He gets plenty of pellets, algae wafers, blanched cucumber etc. but he spends all his time voraciously devouring all the plants in my tank and growing at an alarming rate. Is there anything I can do? Any thoughts on what species he might be?

Algae starting to break breakout… what next?

So my tanks been going for about 5 months now, and It seems I’m starting to have a green algae breakout. I have a few hypothesis. 1, I recently got a new light, much brighter and more powerful, and it’s in for 12 hours a day. 2, I recently planted a sword (which is struggling, I’ll probably buy root tabs soon). Maybe I kicked up some waste that was stuck in the substrate and that caused a spike? My ammonia is at 0 and my nitrate is somewhere between 0 and 5. The tank has anubias, Amazon sword, weeping moss, a pothos trimming, and giant duckweed. I assume I should lower how much the light is on for?

How do I keep this moss?

So to make a short story even shorter, I lifted up my half full 10 gallon tank to see if I could set it on the floor (i also got my leveling mat in) and then set it back down on top of the heater's plug without realizing until I heard ominous cracking and noticed my tank wasn't level. The cracking was my tank and now it's gonezo. My issue here is I got 6 packets of Java moss in today as well and it'll be about 10-11 days before I can get a new tank. I currently have two other tanks but they are filled with snails and I want to hold off on an invasion for as long as possible with my new tank. What can I do?

HELP 🙏🏼

Hey everyone, this is my very first freshwater aquarium. It’s been set up for about 1 month. I have redone and added to it. This has been my results since I’ve been keeping tracking. I have been ghost feeding very smaller amount every other day. I have done about about 3 20-30% water changes with tap water conditioning and stability. I’m soooo ready to added some fishes. I’m already awe with just the set up. I know it’s going to be worth the wait.

—also I wouldn’t mind some advice on the set up, I am going to move the log from the entrance to the tunnel im just allowing the Monte Carlo to grow.

HELP, are they dead?!

I had an emergency and had to leave my anubias and java fern out of the water and glued to the hardscape as I was filling up the tank, they got no water and had my Chihiros B series light at 100% for about 5-6 hours (again had an emergency and forgot to turn it down), they’re withered but are they for sure dead or just burned/ withered? Suggestions on how to “revive” them if possible would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

Open tanks with snails, do they escape?

I see a lot of open top tanks with snails, but I’m wondering do snails escape a lot? Does it cause any problems? I have a 5 gallon tank with mostly Anubias and I think Ludwigia and am thinking about a snail to help with algae, but there are gaps in my glass top and I heard they’re escape artists. Or is a snails bad idea in such a small set up anyway? I would go for shrimp, but my Betta is a very aggressive eater so I’m sure he’d probably just eat them all!

Plant Recommendations for 10 Gal and 2.5 Gal

Hi all! Currently managing a 10 gallon community tank (pictured first) and building a 2.5 gallon shrimp tank.

The ten gallon features the following Aquatic plants - Eleocharis acicularis, Hellanthium tenellum 'Green', Dwarf Water Onion, and a Water Banana Plant (Nymphoides aquatica), with plans to add a floating Java Moss ring and a Java Fern. I was wondering if you have any other plant recommendations for the tank. The tank houses Ghost Shrimp, a school of Ember tetras, and some Pygmy Corydoras. It also has a ceramic shrimp hideout, silk leaves for pygmys and shrimp to rest on, and a Eucalyptus root. (with an adjustable heater and HOB sponge filter.

Also working on making a 2.5 gallon for neocaridina (Blue Dream or Jade Green, not sure yet). All it has for now is a Java Fern and a mini air pressure powered sponge filter; I want to add some Java Moss and some Marimo Moss Balls. Looking for recommendations here too!!

Let me know if you have any plant recommendations for either of these! Preferably unique/underrated ones.

First time co2 setup- Water in CO2 tubing

Hi, I have set up my CO2 system for the first time yesterday following the FZone regulator tutorial on YouTube. Everything seemed to go smoothly during setup.

Came back this morning, turned it on, and noticed:

  • Bubble counter is about half empty
  • Water inside the CO2 tubing
  • Diffuser isn't producing any bubbles

Bubble counter was set to around 1/2 bubble per second.

Is this normal for a first-time setup or did I do something wrong? Any idea what caused it and how to fix it?

Trouble growing plants

Sorry for the poor quality tank photo, for some reason Im making this post mid-gravel vac. I can’t seem to get anything to grow besides algae and java ferns. My tank is a 34gal rimless cube and my lighting is chihiro WRGB2 slim. I’ve been trying to find out exactly what settings to do for my chihiro but the light spectrum percentages and the % and K value are very confusing to me as a first time buyer of this light.

I also have a co2 system but recently turned it off due to reading that can cause algae if my plants aren’t doing well. I’m interested in growing corkscrew vals mostly but the 3 I have are either not growing (2) or are growing very slowly and short (1).

Any help is very appreciated!
