What is this in my cat's food
I just opened this can and this was on the top of the food. I haven't seen this before. It is the Fancy Feast kitten wet food. Just want to know if it is still okay to feed my kitty this?
Thank you for your help!

There was fricken cooked bones in it! I was recording for the hell of it because I was gonna post on TikTok for fun him eating. There was chaos today because so many things were going wrong. I looked at the plate while he was mid eating and had to snatch it because there was fricken bones! I already called them after I confirmed it was bones and sent photos but come on!? I try to get a highly recommended cheap food for once and I get bones!? Never happened in the other more expensive cans!
Idk how many he ate before I saw it! This is NOT how I wanted my morning to go. Sorry about the cussing.
People who have the Pawspik, is the sliding cover solid or slatted? Would it keep the food inside from being exposed to the air?
I’m looking at the Surefeed and the Pawspik and I found a good deal on a secondhand Pawspik, the thing is tho I feed only wet food, and what I want it for is two things:
I like the design of the Pawspik better than Surefeed mostly because it has the removable stainless steel bowl, but the thing is I can’t tell if the slatted sliding cover thing is actually solid or if it’s kind of a grate that wouldn’t really tightly contain the food inside.
Any advice about this would be appreciated and pics/videos that show the cover would be awesome! ty! :)
Hi everyone! I’ve got a question for you all.
So I was never told by a vet or anyone really when I had my previous cats that it’s best to maximize the amount of wet food in their diet. I’m trying to be a better cat owner for my newest charge and I would like to know how to get him to eat more wet food.
My kitten is 8.5 months old.
I leave kibble out 100% of the time for my boy to free feed on in between wet meals. I do this because I don’t want him to feel the need to overeat, if he always has access to food then he theoretically won’t ever become food insecure.
I give him a wet food meal twice a day by mixing half a can of food with heated water. Once a day I mix a churu in to try to entice him to finish his food, with some success.
The problem is, he doesn’t always eat everything or even a majority of his wet meals. I would say his probably gets 60-70% of his calories from dry food and often leaves his wet meals untouched. He frequently drinks the water from the wet food so I’m not too concerned about hydration right now as he also drinks water, but it’s quite a lot of money that goes to waste when right now I have to toss so much uneaten food.
Any general tips on getting him to eat more wet food? Should I restrict dry food more? Should I try blending the food in a processor since he doesn’t always seem to eat much of the solid food bits? Should I put a churu in both meals instead of just one? Any tips at all would be appreciated!
Hello I was wondering if anyone else gets these marks below the seal of cat food cans ? They’re like little dots poking slightly outwards. I’m super paranoid and I just want to make sure these won’t make my cats sick if the seal is compromised.
Hi all - I adopted my first ever cat about 6 weeks ago and have done a lot of research on her diet. She is a healthy 2-3 year old girl at an ideal weight who has eaten almost everything offered. I have been trying to determine the best mix of foods that has an ideal balance between whats best for her health, my budget, and my schedule. I feed based off ideal calories for her vs just serving sizes on the packages
What I’m trying to understand is whether getting 40-45% of her daily calories from wet food is enough to see the benefits? I understand that an 100% wet food diet would be ideal, but this is not going to be possible due to budget and scheduling restraints. I am feeding her a grain free pate style wet food, and she is getting Purina One dry food. I’m also open to recommendations for dry food and wet food that is the high quality for the price.
Thank you!!!!
i never use reddit and i feel like a karen or something but this made me sickkkkk
so i’ve had my cat for almost 2 years and the whole time we’ve had her on the sheba perfect portions, i’ve wanted to switch her to a different cat food for some time, but because she enjoys it and hasn’t ever gotten sick before i haven’t made it a priority(and it also isn’t my money, my mom pays for it, so i can’t ask for expensive food because it’s just not doable for her)
my mom ordered some for pickup from our tractor supply and when she went to get it it stunk like dead meat according to her. she had to scrub our car because it stunk it up so bad. she took it back in and told them it smelled terrible and asked for a different package. i checked them all when i brought them home (no i didn’t open any of them, and none were opened i would’ve noticed), made sure they were in date, so i really didn’t think it was a big deal.
a couple days later my room STINKS. and i don’t suspect the cat food because i’ve never had issues before so im cleaning my room for days trying to find the smell. i should’ve suspected it so thats my fault
anyway i go to feed her today and these little beads of whatever the hell fall into my hand and i turn to look at the package and it was DISGUSTING. i took it to show my mom and it completely stunk up the kitchen. i threw the rest i had away even if they appeared fine.
i know it’s mostly my fault for not being more cautious and asking to return the food and buy it at a different store but i rlly didn’t think much of it. i’m unsure if it’s both a store AND company issue or if it’s just the store. either way thought id ask for opinions and maybe some affordable wet food options since id really like to switch now. sorry for the long post!!!!
I adopted a 9 year old cat and he is getting bald patches (ruled out infections, mites etc by the vet!) i’ve only had him a month now but im worried about the amount of hair loss (legs and stomach). taking him in to the vet today, and worried he will have to be on the prescription diet. he’s insanely picky and i’m worried he won’t eat it as he is already a skinny guy!
side note, i was feeding him salmon and pea dry cat food from Natural Balance and fish variety wet food from Reveal. i was fine at first giving him that much fish stuff since it was the only thing he ate. now im worried thats what he was reacting too- so i bought Fancy Feast Chicken and Turkey Dry cat food. he loves it!
i dont want to cause any more issues by switching food around AGAIN but idk what to do?!
I am really beside myself trying to find pate without fish oil for an allergic cat. I can only find 5 locally :
Friskies mixed grill, chicken with garden greens.
Fancy Feast Chopped Grill, Beef and Liver, and Beef and Chicken
Absolutely everything else I can find here has fish or fish oil. its everywhere and very frustrating.
Sure that's 5 and 5 is better than none but I wanted to find some more options for the furry fella.
So I am going to have to mail order some things. Anyone have any other fish and fish oil free pate recommendations ? If I give him chunks or minced, he licks the gravy and doesn't touch the meaty pieces.
i see so much debate and discourse online on whether to feed cats wet food for water intake or dry food for their teeth, but is there a reason why people don’t usually do or suggest both? like feeding dry food for breakfast and wet food for dinner, or viceversa?
also, is there a comprehensive guide of main benefits and/or ingredients to look out for in each kind?
ETA: what do you look out for in terms of benefits in each (e.g., hairball control, urinary prevention, specific dental, weight management, etc). my cat isn’t picky so i just want what’s best for her since she’ll eat anything
Had a very scary moment with my 1yo male cat. Suddenly started acting very strange and luckily we took him to the vet straight away as they found he had a urinary blockage caused by crystals that could have killed him within 24hrs.
He drinks plenty of fluids and has both wet and dry food by Applaws every day. We really looked into what could be causing this and it has been determined it was the Applaws causing him to get urinary crystals due to it's high mineral content.
We have taken him off the applaws immediately, just wanted to do a little PSA if anyone has a cat on Applaws that struggles with urinary crystals, it could be the food!
Pic of said cat for tax.
Edit. Dear lord HE HAD A BALANCED DIET. Applaws makes complete dry food. 🙄🙄🙄
We bought a brand new chunks cat food box at Costco and when we opened it the chicken was instead tiny tiger chicken pate ???
I’ve bought catnip at least twice. Both times they seemed really dry (like parsley flakes) and my cat didn’t care for it. I recently bought a catnip spray and he went crazy over it lol. His new scratching post I bought for him, he barely touched it. As soon as I sprayed it, he jumped on it and was scratching on it. I’ve seen funny pics and videos of people giving their cats catnip or their cat breaking into the bag of catnip. I’m adopting another cat from my local shelter next weekend and want to make sure they both have some good stuff that they’ll enjoy lol. What is a good brand? Thank you in advance!
(TL;DR: I promise he has already been to the vet several times.
my kitten has had recurring GI issues and a very sensitive tummy, switched to prescription Royal Canin GI kitten formula & antibiotic and he is doing very well on it. Looking for affordable —preferably much cheaper than $0.75 an ounce lol— and limited ingredient/protein wet food recommendations to switch him to once his medicine/prescription diet does its thing. He was on Fancy Feast Kitten Pate prior to the switch. He loves all textures and flavors)
Little backstory, my 5.5 month old kitten has gotten bacterial overgrowth 2x now in the last 2 months. Stool samples came back clean otherwise, both in regular testing and lab testing. He was originally put on proviable and it helped clear up the GI issues, so they ran it again this time. After 3 days of it not helping (6 days total with diarrhea), I took him back and they put him on a prescription diet of Royal Canin Gastrointestinal kitten for at least a week, as well as an antibiotic. He has finally had his first not liquid stool in a week after the second day of the diet change.
My vet recommended switching his kitten food once his GI issues settle down (probably another 1.5 weeks of the prescription diet). He was on Fancy Feast Kitten Pate prior to all of this.
With all of that being said, I am looking for an affordable wet kitten food to switch him to once his antibiotics and probiotics run its course. He is genuinely the least picky cat in the entire world, so proteins/flavors don't matter. I am concerned he may have an intolerance to a random protein, so preferably brands that have limited ingredients and proteins in them so I can monitor if he has any issues to specific proteins. Also would love a brand that also that has a variety of flavors and proteins to chose from if possible!
I have been considering trying weruva again, but their cans smell so terrible and I am not sure if they are good for sensitive/GI kittens.
Thank you so much 🥰
First things first. I booked a vet appointment for tomorrow. This is becoming very costly but I can’t stand to see my fur baby licking herself to naked mole rat eventually. Also I am exhausted from vacuuming and steaming.
Elsa is 4 years old. She eats friskies wet food. Shredded with gravy to be exact. It’s her favorite she’s a gravy girl through and through. During the day she eats a small bowl of hard food and for dinner at 8pm she gets half a can of wet food.
I have tried buying her the most expensive cat food so that she can get all natural ingredients and eat super healthy but she won’t touch it. I bought a $8 dollar can one time that had shredded chicken etc etc and she didn’t have a bite. She just smells it and walks away lol.
Because of all the licking and rubbing against furniture I took her to the vet and the vet said it’s probably fleas ? She’s an indoor cat btw. I’ve taken her 3 times.
We got her flea treatment from the vet and for some reason that burnt her neck and she got a scab.. oh my poor baby I feel so bad 😢.. the flea treatment clearly didn’t work as she’s still licking her belly and her paws.
Her belly is just pink no hair and her paws a bit of hair but also almost all gone..
this has been ongoing for a while I’m taking her to the vet again tomorrow.
Could this be an allergy to fleas ? Could it be her food? Could it be something else? Has this happened to anyone before ? I’m going to post some pictures here of her body parts that she has licked. Also just now I noticed she has a scab in her ear. That wasn’t there last night.
My 7 month old kitten will NOT eat wet food, since the day we got him at 8 weeks old he refuses, we have tried sooooo many different wet food we could try and he will not, however, this has been mentioned to the vet and his vet is not concerned because he is a very good drinker. So I am looking for recommendations on dry food. We’ve been feeding him Purina kitten chow but I’d like to get him on something better and I am so stuck cause every time I read comments about what to feed them or recommendations everyone is stating “don’t feed dry food” I have no other option and I think dry food is better than no food! Thanks in advance! I was hearing good things about nula? Purina1 plus, and iams?
I asked for recommendations on delicious food to spoil my big brain tumor boy in his final chapter of life—and you delivered!
Nicky is now the proud owner of a dragon pile of wet food and treats. We got every brand, flavor, and texture of food this community recommended that our local store stocks. And much human-grade food besides. He will get a taste of everything, and seconds of whatever he likes best. We’ll keep his (boring, healthy) dry food the same so that it’s not too much at once.
Thank you, cat people ❤️
i'm the owner of 3 domestic shorthairs, all 6 years old. since they're in the later adult stage now, i've been trying to be more attentive to their nutrition. mostly they eat kibble mixed with a food topper and water, occassionally if i have the money they eat wet food. i know it's not the best, but i try on a student budget. and recently i've turned to the internet for some research.
i see lots of people say an exclusive dry diet is really bad for cats. no hydration, bad for kidneys. i even saw someone cite a study that said re-hydrating kibble with water or broth lessened overall liquid intake in cats. i thought, oh no! i need wet food!
then i saw plenty of people say an exclusive wet food is also bad! it can lead to bad oral health in cats, it irritates their gums and upsets their stomachs because of high phosphorus. better to feed raw, cats are carnivores anyway!
then there was a whole crowd of people saying feeding your cat raw was the worst possible thing you could do! high risk of parasites, e-coli, bacteria.
like seriously guys... WHAT should i feed my cats then 😭😭 it seriously doesn't help that all 3 of these crowds love talking down anyone who thinks differently. my 3 cats are active, generally healthy, they eat and drink with no problem. is my kibble with water and topper enough?
Feeding a 12yo cat who does not currently have kidney issues, but would like to prevent it if possible. Currently he eats friskies and fancy feast for wet and Iams senior for dry.
Hey everyone, my cat needs to drink more water but she won't eat those wet cat foods, she loves her classic dry food, and she is a picky eater.Any advice on how to make her drink more water?
