How to grow hair out despite having split ends?

My hair has extensive damage and it seems to have stopped growing in length. I have multiple split ends, and even after trimming my hair that was near my mid back to just below shoulder length. I still have a ton that keeps coming back or needs cutting, I feel like all this cutting is inhibiting growth progress and don’t know what to do. I’m trying to thicken and grow my hair out but idk what to do. Anyone have any ideas and suggestions for products to use? I’d say my hair is quite thin and is wavy

Looking for haircut and routine advice for my hair

I’m looking to change or keep (I don't know, whatever is best) my haircut. Does anyone have recommendations for a haircut that works well with this type of hair or way to maintain it easily? I’m hoping for something that is easier to manage.

Also, I’ll be spending two months this summer in a place with a water shortage. Any tips on haircuts or products that make hair easier to maintain when you have limited water access would be amazing.

Attached is my current hair —thanks in advance for any advice!

Hair help

This is what the ends of my hair look like. I straighten a few times a week and use heat protectant. It’s not dyed/bleached at all. How can I get it smooth + healthy and to grow longer? I have heard K18 is good.

Thanks in advance 🩷

Are straggly ends just part of lif? Cutting them doesnt help

this is my hair, photo taken this morning. i love my hair but the ends are always like 'rat tails' as my mom would say. my hair has been bleached last year and i just dyed it brown this week. i use olaplex on the ends, i use leave in conditioner spray after showering, i use a biotin repair sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, i dont brush harshly and i only use heat one-two times a week after heat protect. is this just natural as the ends of u hair are the most damaged?

managing long, very thick 2b/2c hair

i’ve been growing my hair for a few years now and recently attempting to style it wavy/curly as well. my hair is very thick and mixed texture? i have definite coarse hairs mixed with medium. and low porosity! takes forever to get wet and never dries lol

currently my wash day routine is:

moisturizing leave in (currently using biolage hyrda source) on dry hair for 15-20 min before

shampoo with nizoral in problem areas

shampoo again (kenra moisture)

condition (kenra moisture) and detangle with wide tooth comb while wet with conditioner in + squish to condish

i usually let the conditioner sit in my hair until i’m done with soap as well - or as long as possible

then rinse and wash out about 90% of conditioner

after shower on soaking wet hair i add some leave in conditioner and argan oil, detangle again with unbrush

then if im styling i add function of beauty wave foam mixed with V&co curly pop styling mousse and scrunch then add gel and plop for 20 min and diffuse (which takes a million years with my low porosity hair) or air dry

i wash my hair 2/3 times a week typically and sleep in a bonnet, i used to sleep in double braids every night before i got the bonnet.

i’m dealing with some bad tangling and matting on the daily mainly underneath, i usually combat this by rewetting and spraying with conditioner and detangling, is there anything else i can do?? im already trying to regrow breakage under there that was caused by the tangles.

i’m also looking for any styling tips!! i’ve had one style day so far that i’ve actually liked, but i wasn’t super happy with it after day 1. (pictures included)
i work a very active job teaching dance classes so i also need some hair style ideas that will be comfortable and last for 6+ hours, usually i do braids of some kind or a half up style but now when i do half up the tangling gets so bad.

picture 1 + 2: good style day using both curl mousse and wave foam

picture 3: next day^

picture 4: different style day using only the wave foam

picture 5 + 6 + 7: day 3 after wavy style day^

picture 8: breakage

picture 9 + 10: air dried hair with no styling

TIA!!

Will I reach my goal length by the end of the year?

The darker hair at the top are my new growths of 7 months. Is tailbone length a realistic goal to dream of by this year’s end?

Hair routine

I’ve been getting a few messages asking about my hair routine, so here it goes

-I use the L’Oréal Absolut Repair line (shampoo, conditioner, mask, and oil).

-I wash my hair every single day, religiously.
After washing, I use Revlon Uniq One, the L’Oréal Absolut Repair Molecular leave-in, and &honey hair oil.

-I don’t use heat daily, and when I do, I only use the Dyson Airwrap with the dryer attachment.

-Most of the time, I wear claw clips to help avoid breakage.

-I never wash my hair with hot water.

-Once a week, I do a pre-shampoo treatment with the Garnier Hair Filler, and once a week I use a clarifying shampoo (also L’Oréal).

And most importantly: don’t rush to cut your hair just let it grow. It took me around 4 years to get the length I have now, and it all started with a big chop to get rid of the damaged hair.

16 months of growth

This is 16 months of growth after 2 or 3 trims. I really didn’t put that much effort into it, but I’m doing daily protective styles and minimal heat lately. I can’t wait for the day it hits my waist. :)

Help with thinning hair plz!

My hair has been hella thinning out the past 2 years & I think it’s a mix of aging & the medication I’ve been on, but it’s gotten so bad & I need some recommendations plz! I’ve tried Biotin & different hair vitamins, but they don’t seem to work. I’ve even started growing out my natural hair color & stopped dying it (I don’t have a current pic, but it’s about the same or a lil thinner) I also used to have an undercut in the other 2 pics & I’ve grown that out so it’s scary to see it’s not even as thick as it was when I had the undercut ughhh I was thinking of trying Nutrafol or Viviscal or any other recommendations y’all have. The crazy part is I used to use crappy hair products & heat tools a lot & now I don’t at all, but it’s not helping. I’ve been noticing way more hair loss when I brush & after I wash my hair too. I’m currently using Super Milk shampoo & conditioner from Lush, but I’m thinking of going back to &Honey which was what I started using after I stopped using Pantene Rose Water. Pics are from newest to oldest btw & ya can see the thinning transition.

Long hair I've been hiding

I feel like I should probably share one of my proudest accomplishments. Idk if the pics fully do my hair justice. I get sad having to hide it most of the time in a bun at work. I wish I had the time, encouragement, and knowledge to do more fun things with my hair before I get old and go kaput

how to make my hair same like this

all my products all from argan oil, serum shampoo etc, I don't use pills, I just don't like when my hair get fuzzy after hours or next day, I literally want my hair always looks like the fourth picture or close to the third one, any advices?

Why can’t I avoid this?

Is this frizz? Splits? Breakage? I’m so confused. I’ve been trying to grow out my hair for 2 years. I haven’t bleached it in about that time. Don’t use heat, sleep with satin pillowcases, don’t wear my hair in a ponytail or bun, just loose braids when I sleep.

I feel like my hair lacks texture and doesn't fit my face.

i wanna either cut it short or dye it.

P.S: i've never dyed my hair before so i kinda don't wanna ruin it.

Spent 4 years growing it out, then donated 20 inches!

I’m no longer a member of the long hair club but thank you for keeping me entertained and informed during my short stay!

After 20 years of short hair, I decided to grow it out and donate it in memory of a family member who passed away.

I grew it out from 2022-last week, getting trims 2-3x per year.

I tried stuff to speed up growth:
Biotin supplements
Scalp massage
Rosemary essential oil
But it consistently grew a half inch per month whether I did anything or not.

Wash routine:
Every 4 days. Over the last 4 years I used probably 4 different shampoos. Everything from Dollar General’s finest to some French brand I got from a beauty influencer.

The only difference I could tell was clarifying shampoo made my scalp too dry in the winter so I switched to a sea salt and bergamot gloss shampoo.

Conditioner was nothing special. Mostly $8 bottles from Walmart.

A lot of hair came out in the shower the last 2 years and then it just stopped falling out the last 5 months before cutting it. No idea why.

I used Not Your Mother’s curl defining cream and I could tell it made a difference. I used a spray detangler/conditioner a few times per week. My hair is wavy and was always tangled.

No heat tools (except the 1 time I got a blowout) mostly air-drying but sometimes I used a warm or cool blow dryer in winter.

I slept in a satin bonnet every night, kept it braided or in a claw clip a lot.

My takeaways from my brief stay in Long Hair Land:

Long, thick, healthy hair is gorgeous
It is also a lot of work
Beware: everything looks easy on YouTube. It is not.
Those big barrel brushes are not for beginners.
Tiny rubber bands don’t come out without a fight
I felt like a beautiful, magical mermaid with long hair, but now that it’s cut, I feel nothing but relief! It feels good to have my short hair back! And I hope my hair will help another redhead feel like herself again after hair loss.

Embracing the fine hair messy braid! (Read description)

I normally prefer a sleek and smooth braid by using products like gel, etc, but I decided to just let it be as it is! I have fine textured hair so it got more messy as the day went on haha!

tell me your secrets for long hair

What made your hair start growing like crazy? Any products? Habits? Or maybe just genetics or a change in diet? Any suggestions for someone growing their hair?
