How to stay cool in the heat with long hair

Helloooo everyone. This has never really been an issue for me but with the insane heat in the UK this summer, I’m struggling now.

Keeping it up in a bun gives me a horrid headache after a while. A ponytail is no good because if it’s high up it gives me a headache after a while and if it’s low down it irritates my neck. A regular plait is no good because my hair is a bit frizzy and it always comes loose. Last two days I’ve been putting it in a dutch braid (which I was suddenly magically able to do now that it’s hot, I could never do one before!) and so far so good as I don’t have to do it too tight for the hair to stay in, so this is a good option, but I’m just wondering what everyone else does if they experience the same issues with those other hair styles?

EDIT: thanks for all the advice lovelies! Claw clips usually make my head ache too 🥲 maybe investing in a large one could help, although yeah take em out if you’re in the car! I’ll have to try a hair stick, and the wet hair one as a built in AC is genius 😂😂

what’s a cheap shampoo/conditioner you stand by?

my hair is around tailbone length and is largely healthy aside from split ends for the most part, and while i’ve only used drugstore products, i’m not sure i’ll be able to afford them once i go to uni (or at least until i find a job down there)

just wondering what cheaper products people have used that haven’t torn their hair to shreds really :)

thanks!

Repeated Question- Am I Forcing My Hair?

I know, it’s been asked before, I am sorry. Previous posts are so specific to one person’s hair, which is fair and why I still have questions.
I always thought I just had “body”. And if that’s where it ends, I’m fine with that. My mom has curly hair. My brother has beautiful feathery hair with no effort. So, as an experiment, I diffused my hair after seeing what my hair looked like while wet, and I tried scrunching it (see picture). It came out big 🤣
My hair is thick, coarse and heavy. Very, very heavy. If I take a shower in the morning (5AM), and then put it in a ponytail until after work (5PM), it is still very wet inside.
I cannot, for the life of me, tell if either I’m forcing a wave pattern or if my hair is too heavy and untrained to a possible natural pattern, since I don’t train it. I have 2 daughters with beautiful 3A curls that I have had to learn how to take care of it, so I have *some* experience.
Should I try to train it? Is that when I can tell if it’s forced? Any suggestions or advice would be so helpful.

took me years!

been such a long journey for me ! but i am finally at the length i am proud of!, my hair is to my hips and i am so so happy.
MY HAIR USED TO BE black box dyed and i got myself to this shade! i always used only 6% developer and i did it in 3/4 sessions but to get the box dyed hair to this shade it took me a year!
now i only do root touch ups and immediately get myself to platinum! (ive put the last three pictures )

ive been bleaching my hair by myself for 4 YEARS!

i use afroditas bleach with the oil based 6% developer.

for haircare:
-I dont brush my hair wet
-I wash it 2/3 times a week
-I use a cleansing shampoo ( afrodita rosemary one)
-i use the coconut miracle hair oil before washing
- hair masks i dont have a preference just use whatever
-and i mostly
sleep in braids

How to deal with hair loss (I feel heartbroken)

over the span of 2 years I lost a lot hair density due to numerous life events that cause shedding. first I quit birth control after 8 years. i noticed shedding but I didnt consider it to be so bad untill I saw myself on pictures. later I had a miscarriage. pregnancy and all that jazz caused me to have hormonal downs i guess. lastly I had to go on accutane last dec. im still on it. and yeah. if I have hair left by the end of this I will be greatful.

some days i feel so ugly because of what happened. its so sad to brush through and see like 300 hairs, sometimes I consider to just go to a short lenght. its like i lost an arm. when i feel my hair it seems so much thinner than before. recently i had to do a big chop. and its still not enough to cover the see through ends. my hair grows very slow naturaly. so the density will probs be back in 10 years if even then.

i lost all hope of ever restoring my hair because trust me I use quality products, suppliment vital vitamins and i oil and scalp rub my hair constantly. i never changed my routine. I dont understand how it could get so bad so fast with only hormones to blame. i guess it all comes down to hormones at the end of the day.

My hair dresser thinks my hair isnt that thin at all for its lenght. im very tall. my hair was 96cm on the first pic. now its probs around 80cm havent checked. Do i have some kind of blindness? Is my hair ugly now? would u chop more? I guess im looking for honest opinions of fellow long haired people. thanks.

In search of a new default hairstyle…

Hello! I have hip-length curly hair (see above) and I am looking for a new default daily wear hair style. I like my hair completely out of the way, so I almost always wear it in a simple twisted bun fastened with a single hair stick. I normally use just a plain thin brass stick, though I have some fancier and heavier sticks that I wear sometimes. (See above) It’s perfect — out of the way, easy, fast, comfortable, and relatively chic.

The problem is… I have a baby now, and I’m often holding him over my shoulder in a way that makes me afraid I’m going to poke his eye out with the hair stick. I would be so devastated. I’m really afraid I’m going to hurt him, but I don’t know what to do. I would love to learn a new (but similar) hair style, OR find a hair stick (or clip?) of some sort that wouldn’t be hazardous.

ALSO, in addition a default daily style, I’m also looking for a way to fasten my hair while mountain biking. It must be completely contained, as something like a braid could easily get caught on tree branches (or the bike), which could be terrible. Currently, I do the same bun/stick as above, but just really low on my skull (so my helmet fits) and further secured with two hair bands so that the stick doesn’t get jostled out on trails. This mostly works, but I like to bike on fairly dangerous trails, and I am a little worried about having a metal spike attached to the base of my skull during a crash… It seems like I should secure my hair in a safer way…

So, any ideas for either the everyday hair style OR my mountain biking style?

Thanks!

Before & immediately after brushing

Advice is appreciated :D hair blindness is a fear of mine. Should I snip the little wispy ends off or leave them be? Goal is hip length

Routine: wash twice a week with suave keratin shampoo and conditioner. Immediately after shower I use it's a 10 leave in, followed by morroccanoil. I used to wear a braid to bed every night, but I've been using a bonnet for about a week and I'm already noticing a huge improvement in texture. Any other advice is welcome!

Haven’t chopped it in 1.6 years. Suggest a hairstyle?

I have a lot of hair anxiety because my hair is very weird. It’s wavy and often very frizzy so every haircut looks the same. Everything looks weird and poofy. I have never met a hairstylists who understands my hair and cuts it the way it would suit my hair. So it’s always layers and I’m out of ideas.

Recently I just took some scissors and cut the ends in a straight line. Haven’t done much. Would appreciate some help understanding my hair and which haircut would actually give me some dimension or something rmthing. Sorry about the dirty mirror .

Need help with haircuts while growing out layers

I used to have hip length hair, and really want to get my layers back to the same length so I can grow it out again. What cut (in the second slide) should I show to the stylist?

Inching ever closer to my dream knee length…

My hair routine:

I have been using the same shampoo and conditioner for a year and a day now — Toni & Guy strengthplex — and tend to wash it just once a week, down to ~around jaw level. On wash days I’ll use the Kerastase elixir ultime hair oil from the ends to about halfway up the hair, and for the days that it is clean and not full of hairspray I will spray georgiemane hair growth spray into the part and temples.

I usually wear it tied back in a plaited ponytail or pinned up in a bun, but it is fun to wear it down from time to time for the impact, haha. I also try to avoid dry brushing and heat styling and take my vitamins etc.

I really need some haircare tips

Is my hair too damaged? I'm definitely gonna cut the ends but overall my hair are frizzy and dehydrated I guess.
I don't have hair fall issue but my hairs are very thin.

How can make my hair frizz free? Is there any products anyone would like to recommend.
I'm based in India

Ps: I wasn't taking care of my hairs lately, I'm getting Long layer haircut to maintain the shape. Won't reduce the length more.
Please feel free to suggest me haircut too.

Products I'm using
Kama Ayurveda sweet almond oil (adding soulflower rosemary essential oil sometimes on hair wash day)
Biotique green apple hair shampoo (I changed shampoo but my hair become more frizzy so I'm back to Biotique)
Occasionally (Sundays) kama ayurveda Bringaras hair oil
I've used L'Oréal Professionnel Absolut Repair Molecular Mask but no improvement.
I used to use juicy chemistry hair mask which wss great but they discontinued the product

I don't use leave in serum. I use Kama Ayurveda sweet almond oil everyday just little bit it keeps my hair manageable.

Am i doing anything wrong? I prefer to use products which are good in long term and nit just seeking quick solution.

Please advise

Starting over, what do I do now?

Hello there.

In June, I decided to do the "big chop". My hair was a damaged, uncoordinated mess. It was bleached, fried, dyed, you name it. I did everything possible to my hair and yet I was unhappy with myself. I decided in June to go to a hairdresser and get a pixie cut...but then a couple days later I clipped it with a 8 guard. I have never felt my scalp so open before and honestly, it was so freeing.

My hair is a huge part of my identity. I love doing new things and experimenting, but I felt that my hair had finally had enough. Now, I am stuck with a cute little pixie cut. The thing is, I never knew how to take care of my hair.

I want to ask everyone, if you had to choose to start over, what would you have done differently in your hair journey? Is there any advice I should listen to? Thanks to anyone in advance.

Unexplainable hairloss

I always had long hair, hip length. Then I donated it and experimented with colors. I realized how much damage that did to my hair so I stopped 2 years ago, only thing I would do is hair gloss occasionally, or a colored hair mask.

My hairdresser asked me if everything was right with my hormones cause she felt that I had a lot less hair. So i did bloodwork-everyhing is alright. When I became pregnant and my hair stopped falling out, but I think that the postpartum shedding that is about to come will be a lot for my mental health. My hair still grows super fast, its thick at the roots but the ends are thinner. Its like its not staying in the growth phase long enough and i always look like I've been electrocuted. I really don't know what to do.

2020/2026

I have been going to my hair lady for 20 years. I changed my hair routine about 2 years ago, she told me today my hair is the fullest and healthiest it’s ever been.
