Wawa is testing sushi in the Philly suburbs ...

A spokesperson for Wawa confirmed via email that the chain is currently testing six cooked sushi rolls from Hissho Sushi’s Sushi Soku brand in select stores. They declined to share when the pilot began or the locations of participating stores, saying only that Wawa regularly tests products near their corporate campus in Delaware County “for speed in gaining feedback.”

“The initial response [to the sushi] is very favorable,” the spokesperson wrote, while also declining to share the criteria used to reach that conclusion. A representative for Hissho Sushi declined to answer questions about the partnership.

Wawa #7012 Manchester, TN opens Wed Oct 14: 5th Tennessee store, first in Coffee County

Wawa's Grand Openings page now lists Store #7012, 24 Campground Rd, Manchester, TN 37355 (the old Arrowheads & Aerospace Museum site) opening Wednesday, October 14.

From Wawa's media alert:

8:00 a.m.: free t-shirts for the first 250 customers
Free hot coffee, any size, Oct 14–18
8:30 a.m.: ribbon cutting, plus the "Hoagies for Heroes" hoagie-building contest between local police and fire ($1,000 to each department's charity)

It's the 5th Tennessee Wawa, after Clarksville, Dickson, Lebanon and Murfreesboro. It's also the first one outside the Nashville area and the first in Coffee County. A second Coffee County store has been reported for Tullahoma (1936 N Jackson St, the former Ruby Tuesday).

Wawa says it plans up to 7 Tennessee stores in 2026 and 50+ over the next ten years.

Wawa ranks among America’s most loved c-stores

Wawa remains one of America’s most-loved convenience store chains, according to a new ranking released Oct. 6. Wawa leads customer satisfaction in the Northeast and South.

With a goal to add 1,800 stores nationwide by 2030, Wawa is busy opening more than 100 new locations this year — including in Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama and Georgia. The company’s footprint of more than 1,200 stores includes about 300 outposts in New Jersey.

Sheetz aims to reach 1,000 locations by 2028. The Western Pennsylvania-headquartered brand currently operates more than 850 stores across Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland and Michigan.

Was a Wawa Yale University

Grey Matter Books at 264 York Street, New Haven, CT used to be a Wawa Food Market.

Grahame "Grady" Wood, Jr. was put in charge of the Wawa, Inc expansion into Connecticut in 1971. That year 5 stores were opened.

In 1974, Grady Wood and his wife Shirley opened a "convenience food store" they named Shirwood Food Store in the Yale University-owned storefront at 264 York Street.

That store would become a Wawa Food Market by Sept 12, 1975.

The Yale Daily News described its stock as "a pastiche of items from 'Playboy' to buttermilk," with a regular 12:20 a.m. rush during exams.

In 1981 the Hartford Courant, writing about the famously preppy J. Press, called "the Wawa Food Market next door" one of its "less tony neighbors."

It operated until November, 1996 when it's lease was assigned to the owners of Krauszer's. Krauszer's kept running it on the inherited lease, which expired Dec 31, 2000. After a 6-month extension, the store closed in June 2001.

Sheetz launches new 3-episode miniseries on YouTube

The premiere episode features the Lumberjack Breakfast Sandwich, a breakfast creation layered with a pork sausage patty, bacon, scrambled eggs and a honey bun, all sandwiched between two crispy waffles.

The second installment spotlights the Pizza Bagel Bunz Burger, a twist that swaps traditional burger buns for pizza bagels.

The finale rounds out the miniseries with Tater Bomb Nachos, a late-night favorite featuring loaded tater bombs topped with chicken strips, peppers, onions, nacho cheese and crispy jalapeno potato chips, Sheetz said.

Update: Sheetz Goes on Offensive with Plan to Open Store Across from Wawa in Downingtown

UPDATE: September 2026 – September 1 came and went with no Sheetz across from the Wawa near Downingtown. The project is still moving, just not as fast as the company first promised.

The convenience store and gas station chain plans to redevelop a shuttered Rite Aid in Downingtown, diagonally across from the Wawa at the intersection of East Lincoln Highway and Bondsville Road.

Wawa building bigger in N.J. with multiple stores slated to open this fall

Camden, Monmouth, Ocean, Salem counties readying new Wawa convenience stores.

Four new stores under development are a sign that demand remains strong for the convenience chain known for its made-to-order hoagies, coffee and fuel service.

The most advanced project is in Upper Pittsgrove, where Wawa is replacing its longtime Pole Tavern Circle store with a larger location featuring gas pumps.

Phillie Phanatic Crashes Penrose Wawa to Help Announce New Products and Cream Smoothie

Customers in attendance were treated with giveaways and the chance to taste the new Phanatic Cream Smoothie, featuring caramel syrup and sea salt caramel pretzels, created by the Phanatic himself, as well as a Phillies-branded donut.

Plus, Wally Goose and the Phanatic showed off a Phillies-themed Wawa Kids Meal and highlighted The Wawa Foundation’s year-round Fly Beyond initiative, with provides a portion of funds from each Kids Meal sold to Feeding America Food Banks to fund fresh and nutritious foods for youth. A check was presented to Philabundance to support local hunger relief efforts through the Fly Beyond program.

The event served as a toast to the recently-announced partnership between the Phillies and Wawa.

Wawa plans a mid to late-summer start of construction in 2027 with the opening in summer 2028.

“You’ll know when we get ready to go,” Moore said, “because we fence the whole site.”

Wawa hopes to open eight to 13 stores per year in Indiana over the next five to eight years, with a goal of more than 70 locations statewide.

“Greencastle is one of the areas we identified early on,” Moore said.

City says fuel spill at Wawa created no issues

The released fuel entered a storm drain entirely on Wawa’s property. That drainage system is directly connected to Wawa’s underground stormwater detention system, which has an approximate storage capacity of 66,750 gallons. The detention system successfully contained the release on site, according to city officials.
