Charles Bonsangue-built NJ "Wawa Shopping Center" at 169 W Sylvania Ave Neptune City, NJ - likely opened in 1975, closed in 2004. Bonsangue would later found Hometown Market, which operated several stores at former Wawa locations in Neptune City, Toms River, Lakewood and Forked River.
The first New Jersey Wawa is hiding in plain sight! - embedded into what was Marciano's Restaurant at 947 North Delsea Drive. This store opened May 11, 1968.
This location was one of the 22 Stores sold to the operators of Krauszers in Nov of 1996. Wawa had upwards of 30 stores and its Regional Office which was co-located at 643 Foxon Rd. 2 stores closed in 1971, and more may have closed between 1971 and 1996 prior to the sale (Wethersfield? UCONN by Buckley Storrs? New Haven by Yale? Baybrook/Waterbury near Costco?).
