Voice Memos audio suddenly super quiet after upgrading to iPhone 16

Hey everyone - I’m hoping someone here might know what’s going on because I’m completely stumped.

I use my iPhone a lot for work at a school. I record audio in the Voice Memos app using a wireless mic, then import the recordings into iMovie for our morning announcements.

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 16. On my iPhone 11, my wireless mic sounded perfectly clear and loud enough without needing any editing.

Since upgrading, I bought the same exact brand/model of mic, just the USB-C version for the iPhone 16 instead of Lightning. The brand is “Caiord”, if that helps.

Now all my recordings in Voice Memos are EXTREMELY quiet. I have to boost them to like 400% in iMovie, and even then they’re hard to hear if I add background music.

Things I’ve already tried:
\- Changing Voice Memos recording quality settings
\- Using “Enhance Recording”
\- Buying a second mic (different brand) in case the first one was defective
\- Testing multiple recordings/environments

The issue is still happening every time.

So I guess my question is:
\- Is this an iPhone 16 / USB-C issue?
\- Is there some setting I’m missing?
\- Or do these USB-C versions of wireless mics just record quieter somehow?

Any help would seriously be appreciated because this setup worked perfectly before I upgraded phones. Thanks!
