I am an established Family Medicine Specialist currently looking into the possibility of relocating to Abu Dhabi with my family (including a young child). I’m trying to get a realistic picture of both the professional landscape and daily family life before making any big decisions. If there are any physicians (especially in primary care/FM) or medical professionals in the sub, I would love to get your insights on a few things:

Scope of Practice & Work Environment: What is the actual day-to-day like for an FM doc there? I know historically the Gulf has been very focused on organ-specialists, but it looks like comprehensive primary care is being pushed more now. Do you get good continuity of care with patients, or is it mostly high-volume/walk-in style?

The Job Market & Packages: Are standard contracts for specialists still covering the essentials well (housing allowances, health insurance, and international school fees for kids)? Is it mostly hospital outpatient clinics or independent clinical groups that offer the best balance?

DOH Licensing: How tedious or time-consuming is the Department of Health (DOH) licensing process right now?

Family Life & Living: For those who moved with young families, how has the adjustment been? Which neighborhoods do doctors working near the main hubs usually prefer for a good balance of community and commute?
