Can I install Linux on a partition of an external HDD (1 TB out of 5 TB total)without touching the internal windows SSD? (And having the remaining 4TB as windows storage) And also having them as separated as possible(2 bootloaders?)

Gemini says that it's possible and it gave some straight forward instructions but after partitioning and advising me to keep a ~ 500 MB efi partition for true isolation it says:

"Device for boot loader installation: This is the most critical dropdown menu on the screen. Change this from your internal SSD to your external HDD." This seems made up. Is it that simple? Is there really a step where you choose where to install the bootloader in this particular order or is it more complicated and also at the same step with the partitioning? I don't think there's a drop down menu 😅. But I also just installed Linux a few times along the years in dual boot with windows on the same drive. Here's the full Gemini conversation.
