Activities for teens

My son is an only child and finishing 9th grade.
I just kind of feel like he doesn’t have enough going on during weekends. He joined track at school and a few clubs but none of them really have weekend activities. (Okay track has invitational meets but those are only for the really fast kids). There aren’t many weekend things happening at his school.

Any suggestions for non-school based extracurricular that are not hard core travel sports? Specific groups or programs you know of in the area? Active church groups? Summer programs? He loves non traditional type sports. Thanks for any advice.

Mothers’ Day is hard

I know Mothers’ Day is hard for so many people for so many reasons. I’ve been single since before my very first mothers’ day 14 years ago. Often my son would be with me on the day but he never knew it was a special day until he got older.
Today my son is at dad’s house. I am waking up alone and sadly pretending/daydreaming/intrusive thoughts-ing that I have a family coming in to surprise me with breakfast in bed or a cup of coffee and some flowers. I’ll get to see him later so I know I should stop moping but I just can’t. Time to get up and make cereal for breakfast.
I am struggling so hard with staying positive lately and not comparing myself to others and today I am obviously just failing hard at those things.
Happy Mothers’ Day to all the moms out there and the dads that have to be the moms, too. Hope your day is wonderful.
