Free range dood

Since our Yorkie passed in June, my husband has been taking the dood off leash in the yard here and there. Scares the crap out of me (helicopter mom) but it is pure doodle joy for her. She does have good recall but my nature is to worry. She love to stretch her legs!

DIY Dood Groomers - Game Changer For Me #40 Blade

I have been grooming at home for years now, and have all the equipment, but still struggled to get a good cut. Her hair is the texture of cotton balls (super fine) and I never could use a blade guard because between the teeth on both the blade (#10 or #30) and guard just jammed up in the hair. I have a high end Heiniger clipper (Opal - Love!!), so it was not a power issue. After researching, I found their #40 blade which has super short and narrow teeth. I was afraid she was going end up bald, so tried the guard I could never use and they worked wonderfully together.

First pic is after, last pic is starting - we have been doing a lot of traveling in June, so hair was out of control. Two hours of work vs normally three was nice too.

Sitting like a cat

We are at a rental house and she finally can sit like a cat. Not possible on our couch. Someone posted about this last week and I was surprised she took to it so quickly.

Thank you Yorkie Community

We very peacefully said goodbye to Kevin yesterday at 3:55pm. I cried for two hours straight in the morning waiting on getting the call on when they would be out - hoping it would be as late as possible. He loved his cake, never ended up at McDonalds, because it was so hot here and the heat would have made him miserable. The people at Sweet Dreams (GA) were lovely and so compassionate. Today is rough, but I am holding up.

I appreciate everyone who read Kevin's story, posted replies, gave swards, offered me hugs and a soft landing about all this. It meant a LOT to me and very much helped me get through yesterday. This is a great community. Thank you all.

Kevin Michael - The giant Yorkie - This is my last 24 hours with him

Writing this today, because tomorrow I won't be able to. Twelve years ago this batshit crazy ball of unorganized chaos walked into my life. About a year in, I started joking that he was found out walking himself because someone likely left the gate open on purpose. He is THAT much. No fear except of tools, vacuums, and motorized bikes. Zero situational awareness. Zero emotional awareness - he might be a doggie psychopath - because up until lately, he never had a bad day - he just bounced his way through life thinking he was main character to all the supporting actors. Well not a total psycho, because I know he loves me - or is at least obsessed with me - could go either way.

At about 3 y/o he almost died of IMHA. He has had a toe removed due to a cyst. He has had CHF for 4 years. Collapsed trachea - yep that too. He is the poster dog for pet insurance.

When my kids mistakenly left the gate open, he took himself on a walk - we lived on a busy street, with an even busier street two one block over. I was terrified. He was gone for at least 45 mins and we looked all over, then I am in my driveway and he is calmly walking down the sidewalk toward the house - not a fing care in the world. Another time, my kids look out the big picture window in the living room and he is walking past the house on the sidewalk.

Four times after we moved - and unfortunately still on a busy street, he houdinied his way out of the house after I had left to go look for me (not kidding) - he only did this when I was gone. Thankfully all except one time, he crossed the creek/wooded area and went to the next house. We had to put up all kinds of barricades and fill any hole that little MF'er could get his chunky butt through. I had him with me at a event in our very small town but my husband picked him up midday because we get a lot of motorcycles coming through and sure enough he busted out and we finally found him 3 hours later, sitting on a stranger's porch with kibble, on a road he has never been on, ALMOST to town - as the crow flies, not the way we drive in.

He peed on a vase of flowers on the dining room table. He peed on my shoe at the vet too. As a young guy, he could jump on almost anything and vertically bounce like Tigger at least 3 feet up.

He is the reason I know my husband - who came after Kevin - loves me, because again, he is THAT much. Three years back, Kevin decided he needed to be a part of conversations I have with my husband and would talk over us. Then he went through a phase where he would sit in front of my husband and just bark.

So many people LOVE Kevin, he is a literal rock star when he is around people. Our vet recently said, he cannot imagine a world without Kevin in it. My ex-husband - who we did not have Kevin when we were together and who hates me, dog sat for me. His neighbors made sure Kevin visited them when he did.

There are too many Kevin stories to mention. This dog LIVED large.

Well, if you have held on this long, Saturday June 13, 2026 Kevin is taking his leave of the world. I probably held on a bit too long, but all that hard - joyful - living has caught up with Mr. Man (aka Sir). His light as mostly gone out. Thankfully I can provide in home care for this. Tonight we party and he will be the main character. Cake, ice cream, whip cream. Tomorrow I am taking the top of the Jeep (he is the dog out the window type passenger) and taking him to McDonalds for a cheeseburger and fries. LOL I don't even eat McDonalds and cannot stand the smell.

This is will my last Yorkie - I think my husband world divorce me if I even suggested that, so I will not be part of this community, but I know you all get the sheer force of nature these dogs are and I see how passionately you love yours, like I love this guy.

The 1st picture is of Kevin back in the day alongside my soul dog, who will be there to greet him tomorrow. The 2nd is in his devil costume with appropriately glowing eyes and the 3rd is his (ours) epic cross country trip last year at the Grand Canyon.

TLDR - Kevin had an epic run that ends tomorrow.

In Home Dog Euthanasia - Meriwether County

Has anyone found an in home euthanasia that will come to Meriwether county? A search of this sub is all metro ATL and I have been striking out with individual websites. Even Lap of Love does not and they are all over the place. I love our vet but his office is barely controlled chaos and I just cannot go through this there.

Update: I was able to secure Sweet Dreams for Saturday for an extra travel fee. Thanks to all who responded with kind words or suggestions. This guy has been a legend in his own mind and to all who know him. It has never been a dull moment for 12 batshit crazy years.

12 Years Ago This Ball of Chaos Came Into Our Lives

This is the day I met Sir Kevin (aka Forrest - the irony is not lost there BTW). Twelve years of crazy, medical issues, shenanigans, escapes and total love.

His actual "gotcha" day is the 14th, but today is when I first saw him at a shelter event I was volunteering at and knew he would part of the family. I think our time together is winding down due to increased medical and mobility issues, but his legendary life has given us memories of a lifetime.

As a transplant to the state why do the party affiliated primary ballots have different questions? How do those questions corollate to the general election in Nov?

This will be my first GA primary, when/how do you request a specific party affiliated primary ballot if you are not registered to either party? TIA
