Does my employer have to run another competition for me to have a chance at becoming permanent?

Competed as an external candidate in Feb 2025 and was hired via reach back 12 months ago as FXT. Current contract is up Dec 31. Hoping to roll over into permanent at 18 months. However, months ago I was told by my manager that there will need to be another competition this fall - and she couldn’t say if that comp would be for a permanent position. I am almost certain that my position is vacant but have no official confirmation yet.

Landscape of hybrid work in Toronto right now

Hi everyone, I’m curious to hear from a variety of workers about how much hybrid and remote work you’re encountering in your workplaces right now. A strict RTO policy at my workplace is seriously making me want to change jobs, but I know many employers are being regressive about hybrid work. At my workplace we’re unionized but in what will be a years long battle to get hybrid work back.

Shifts in Microsoft Teams

Does anyone else’s workplace “require” the use of Shifts in Microsoft Teams to track work hours and location and if so, when was this policy implemented?

Permanent colleagues, please organize together to fight RTO

You can work together to take risks that contract workers would easily be fired over. Map your workplaces, identify key relationships, and take collective action - the more of you that are involved, the less risk you are taking on as an individual employee.

Colleagues that have hybrid work arrangements with their managers are telling me that they feel guilty about it but I don’t resent them for this because we need flexible work for all.
